Avoid Sykes Cottages Property Management!!!
Since 2004, my wife and I have been renting 3-4 Vacation Rentals across the globe every year. This years experience with Sykes Cottages in the UK was the worst that we've ever had. Earlier this year, we booked this holiday through VRBO and there were no prior reviews. A little over two months prior to our stay, we were directed to the Sykes Cottages web-site and saw numerous reviews for this property that were not on VRBO. These reviews were horrendous (non-working showers, non-working hot tub, unresponsive property management, etc…). We immediately reached out to Sykes Cottages to get assurances that these issues have been resolved. One day, two days, three days, no response. I kept pinging them, and on the seventh day, they finally responded with the message that they had forwarded this to the correct department. Another three days down the line, they said that they were contacting the owner. We feared that Sykes' total lack of urgency on our concerns would manifest itself again if we experienced problems on-site. We decided NOT to take that risk. We contacted VRBO customer support to cancel this reservation and began working with the Executive Customer Escalation team to begin working on a refund due to lack of engagement from Sykes.
The VRBO Customer Escalation team has been good. They provided us a refund for the initial deposit with promises that their system cancellation would prevent Sykes from charging us for the final payment on Sept. 8. Just to be sure, w
