About this property

Cooperage Cottage - Peaceful & Family Friendly, Oceanfront

Our quiet oceanfront Cooperage Cottage sits sheltered by tall oak, pine and spruce trees on five private acres of forest and salt marsh. The surrounding area is mostly summer cottages with some year-round residents. It is conveniently located 45 minutes from Halifax and it is close to Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg.

An oceanfront two story, south facing, fully equipped chalet-style house perfect for couples or families. Each level has a living area, bedroom and bathroom.

The upper level bedroom has a queen bed. The lower level bedroom has two extra long twin beds which can be placed together to make a king bed.

The galley kitchen is fully equipped including an induction stovetop, quartz countertop, wall oven, microwave oven and dishwasher.

There is a deck off the upper level living area. The lower level living area includes satellite TV, games, propane fireplace, and a heat pump (heating and cooling system).

There are two full bathrooms, one on each level. The washer & dryer are located in the lower level bathroom. Bathroom towels, beach towels, and linens are provided.

WIFI and BBQ are on site.

At the shoreline of the property you can see the ruins of an old working cooperage. A century ago, wooden barrels were built here for the fishing industry and Chester Basin was well known for its many cooperages. Here, chairs welcome you to enjoy the lovely island views and in the summer you will discover why this area is a popular boating destination. The water is accessible so maybe you prefer to go for a swim or rent a kayak.

One of the islands you can see from here is the legendary Oak Island which is famous for many theories of possible buried treasure. Treasure hunters have been searching for the past 150 years.

I am a Bluenoser, born and raised in Nova Scotia. One of five siblings who spent our childhood summers at our parents cottage in Chester Basin where we developed a deep respect and love for the area. (Bluenoser is a nickname for Nova Scotians.)

Why they chose this property

Together my siblings & I purchased a cottage property nearby our childhood cottage and this is the rental listing. My sister (Karen) and I are the contacts for the listing. We love the area and we want others to enjoy all that Nova Scotia has to offer.

What makes this property unique

The house is very comfortable and quiet. Having a living area on each level is great for families or couples who would like some privacy.

The southeast facing oceanfront portion of our property was once a Cooperage many years ago. The building is gone now but the large stones of the fireplace remain. It's a gorgeous spot to spend time relaxing overlooking many of the islands in Mahone Bay.

The property is bordered on one edge by a salt marsh which is visited by a variety of birds. You may also see an occasional deer or two stroll by.
