Within walking distance there is an honesty farm stand where you can get the freshest veggies, as well as a farm that produces goat cheese from their own herd. Monterey is home to the historic Bidwell Museum. Monterey is a 20 minute drive from Great Barrington, where you can find a large variety of restaurants, grocery stores, theaters and shops. In addition, all the attractions of Great Barrington and the Berkshires are at your fingertips: Tanglewood, Kripalu Yoga Center, Norman Rockwell Museum, Hancock Shaker Museum, the Clark Museum, the WE DuBois Museum and the Naumkeag Museum. We really enjoyed the cottage. It is perfect for a couple trying to get away and disconnect. We loved using the wood stove for the ambiance more than anything. The near by hiking, restaurants and small town atmosphere were just what we needed.
Wonderful cottage! It’s exactly as described and on a cute quiet street. The property manager responded so quickly when we had a question. Would definitely stay here again

Beautiful spot, very peaceful, no clear view of the lake, Mike the grounds keeper very helpful.
Peaceful location with partial view of the lake. Well stocked with linens and other products for laundry and bathroom. Close to places of interest and great hiking trails.
We had a fabulous two week stay at Lake Garfield. Robin and Paul were excellent hosts. The house has comfortable and well equipped for all our needs. The gardens of our house and the main house were beautifully landscaped. We enjoyed canoeing and kayaking on the lake, plus sitting to relax on their new large dock. We went over to the town beach. Explored the whole area. When the weather cooperated, we enjoyed meals outside on the porch. We made good use of the gas grill, firepit, washer/dryer and A/C. All in all very lovely vacation.

Dear Pamela,
Thank you for the kind words. We try our best to provide all the cottage amenities, but the ultimate amenity is the location -- something which can't be changed. I hope you took a little peace and repose with you on your journey home!

My father, husband and I spent a lovely week at this Monterey cottage with our older dogs . We enjoyed lazy mornings chatting over coffee on the porch , kayaking around Lake Garfield and exploring quaint Berkshire towns. Kitchen is well equipped and TV room is comfortable.

Thank you, Beth. I enjoyed chatting with you, your dad and your husband on the porch about the wildlife (bears, deer, bald eagle...). So glad you enjoyed your stay. AndI like a well-stocked kitchen too!
We came for a late October weekend to see the last of the leaves and escape the hustle and bustle of the suburbs....and the cabin was just what we needed. Clean and cozy, with everything we could need, it was a delight to stay there. Everything about our stay was wonderful.
Thank you!

I loved the cottage. It was equipped well and very private. I have absolutely no complaints and I would love to visit this property again for a longer period of time!
Cottage was clean, inviting and well appointed. We had everything we needed and our focus was on hiking, kayaking and biking. The location is tucked away off a private gravel road which is exactly what we wanted. Loads of fun family time when weather permitted and board games kept us laughing when stuck inside. We’ll be back!
