About this property

Solar Piedade - 12.500 m2 property with heated pool and sports court

This property is in the center of a small city, and is a Villa with 12.500 m2.; Some buildings in the property are dated from 1740. The Villa used to be a farm with 100.000 m2. In the end of the past century, the property size was reduced, allowing us to take a better care of the beautiful gardens, the swimming pool and tennis court areas, and the decoration. A car trip from the villa to the downtown area of Porto takes 12 minutes (17 km), and the Atlantic coast and sandy beaches are 20 minutes (22 km) from the villa. The villa is totally modern and renovated and we take a lot of pride in the decoration and materials made available to our guests. The five rooms are devided in two separated houses. The 'Swimming Pool House', has two en-suite rooms on the 1st. floor, with views of the swimming pool area and it's garden, and the 'Cottage House', just five meters across, with three rooms, two on the 1st. floor and one on the ground floor. This house has one full bathroom on the 1st. floor and another, very spacious and modern full bathroom on the ground floor. We consider our rental ideal for groups of more than one family, but it is also very interesting for a single couple that want's a beatiful experience of staying in a large property.
There is free wi-fi in all rooms and inside areas, as well as outside, in the gardens. The parking is free and there is a lot of spaces available for that, and also a closed garage just for the guests vars. Children's cod's and high chairs are also available without any extra-charge.
There are two supermarkets at close, walking distance (Intermarché and Minipreço), as well as bakeries, restaurants and take aways barbecue, pizza hut delivery, ATM machines and banks... You will never feel isolated in this villa, but you will find a place where you and your family or friends have all the space you need to relax, be confortable and at ease, with lots of things to do... We think that from the first minutes of arriving until saying goodbye, our guests feel that Our Lady of Mercy Villa / Solar Piedade, is a perfect holiday home for groups and families. All the positive and pleasant reviews make us feel that our place is good and even very special to the people that have graced us with their visit, and words like 'oasis', 'paradise', 'wonderful', keep being mentioned, keeping us motivated to live up to the expectations. We are devoted to make our guests stays more pleasant than in the past, and keep investing and treasuring their comments and advises.

The house and garden, pool, tennis etc is perfect. Uber takes you to downtown Porto for 15€. Can safely recommend this house, the host is excellent.

Piedade Solare is a very unique property. It features stunning architecture, with a beautifully maintained garden at the entrance featuring beautiful camellia trees. A courtyard opens up, with an aviary with colorful parrots in the center, leading to the apartments.We were welcomed with great hospitality and kindness.The living room is very spacious and perfect for socializing. The pool table was a great entertainment during the rainy hours when we couldn't go out.The pool is charming, and the kids enjoyed playing billiards and ping pong. The tennis court is also lovely.The rooms and bathrooms are very spacious everything was tidy and clean.Also worthy of mention is the wonderful dog Poeta, a gentle giant who welcomed us with great warmth.We had a fully satisfactory stay.

We've enjoyed our stay, villa can easily accommodate 10 people (5 couples). Owner and his team are superb in all matters, always available for any questions at any time. Big pool, well equipped kitchen. Beautiful surrounding with touch of history everywhere. 10 minutes drive range from airport and center of Porto. Don't forget to let Manuela cook you a very delicious dinner :-)

It was a beautiful property and very well looked after, with everything we needed. Pool was spotless. Very easy to get to airport, beach and into Porto. Not the most scenic immediate area but in the villa you are totally secluded and there are two big supermarkets within walking distance so shopping easy. Owner delightful, as was his dog!

Loved our stay in Alfena

We loved the villa the second we drove through the gates. Sebastian was so gracious with trying to communicate with us, hence Google translator helping. The entire compound, the swimming pool, bedrooms were great. We just wished we had more time to spend at the villa to enjoy it more. It's a small neighborhood but places you can walk to for groceries/restaurants. I would highly recommend this villa for your stay.

Old World Charm with Modern Amenities

We loved our week at Solar Piedade! Perfect place for an active family that enjoy swimming, tennis, basketball, pool etc. within the compound of a beautiful old villa. Everything we needed was available and in addition, the location was close to the airport and downtown Porto. Great communication with Helder and Sebastian. A great holiday with family and friends

Nice property and host. Very responsive and friendly. We are a group 11 of three families and everybody loved the holiday. Supermarkets and nice restaurant can be reached by walking. Plenty activities to keep kids busy. You do need to have your own transport for accessing Porto. Thanks for hosting us.

Fantastic Estate close to beautiful Porto

Just can’t said any negative things about this fantastic Estate. Historical buildings, well maintained both inside and outside. Clean and nicely decorated. Pool, tennis, table tennis are just some of the activities you can enjoy while staying. A very nice grill area is also avaible. But most important is the fantastic host. Helpfull and always there to facilitate. You should not mis the fantastic portuguese dinner the host offer to prepare for you while. staying.

Great place to spend a week with friends or family

This property is a green oasis. The old stone buildings are beautifully decorated. Spacious rooms and bathrooms, with comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen. The pool is great and the movable roof is absolutely brilliant. The town does not have much to offer, but supermarkets are within walking distance, and the property is located perfectly for airport, train and drives in the area. Both the hosts and the couple living at the property are very welcoming and helpfull. If you are offered a tasting expirience - say yes! The homecooked food is amazing and totally worth a try :) Overall a very nice place to spend a week - even when weather is against you.

What an amazing property. 8 of us arrived (13-54) for a week and just didn’t want to leave. Everything about this place was perfect and we’re all so relaxed after our time there. The pool table, the tennis court, basket ball, swimming pool. There was plenty for everyone to do. We used Uber a couple of times to go into Porto but literally couldn’t wait to get back to the villa. The local town has good amenities and we did go off and explore and find some lovely walks among vineyards and some old cobbled streets. Cannot wait to go back

Estupendas vacaciones en familia !

La estancia ha sido excepcional. Muy buenas prestaciones de la casa : tennis, baloncesto, piscina, billar... las habitaciones eran muy grandes. Earlier in my life I traveled a lot for recreation and for work, but now I'm saving up to travel with the children in a few years time :-) I love my family and live a quiet and simple life in one of the best and most beautiful countries in the word, and one of the richest ones also, if you measure the wealth by the quality and sympathy of the people.

Why they chose this property

My father bought this property, when Alfena was almost just a small village with farm land. A visionary, people call him now, he knew this place could be special so he rebuilt it and laid down the foundations to the amazing place it is today.

What makes this property unique

We can honestly claim that Our Lady of Mercy Villa is a very unique, special and beautiful place that stays in the mind of visitors long after their passage. It is so, not only by the sheer size of the walled property spreading across 12.600 m2, but by many factors. The architecture and materials used in is construction - where granite pieces of art can be found in the monumental entrance portal, in the chapel building, and in the main house exterior stairway, just to name some.
The main garden found just after crossing the main gate, where palm and fruit trees coincide, among many kinds of flowers and plants. Just after entering the property, even before finding the entertainment areas as the pool or the tennis court, or the rooms, the visitors cross this area and start to feel the special atmosphere.
Stopped in the large parking area facing the tall private chapel building, some are still uncertain of what such a majestic and tall building represents… Seeing the granite engraved inscription of MDCCXL, they find that the building is here since the 1st part of the 18th century.
Crossing the second green gate and entering the patio, guests are delighted to find that this area lives up to the expectations. Different kinds of fruit trees (orange and lemon trees) charged with their fruits are found here, together with other kinds of flowers. In the background you can already hear the canaries and other small birds singing inside the green aviary. Then it is time to cross another green gate and find the perfect scenario for the family entertainment. Another large garden, this time set in a pristine lawn, builds up for the large swimming pool, with immaculate “blue” water. The movie scenario will not disappear for as long as you stay here, you will only feel more and more like a part of it. Life if made of choices, choosing to stay in Our Lady of Mercy Villa is one of those that you will keep up there, on the top of the “right choices list”! Come and see for yourself.
