About this property

Tin Miner's Cottage by the coast

The cottage is made of 3 foot thick granite stone with a flagstone floor partly covered with rugs. It is tastefully decorated retaining its original rustic charm. At the heart of the main living area there is a wood burning stove, perfect for cosying up on the the sofa to read or watch TV. The dining area makes use of the window seat. The kitchen is off to one side with all basic equipment, full size oven, touch hob, fridge freezer, and toaster. Off the other side of the living area is the bathroom, with a walk-in shower and where the washer-drier is located.

The two bedrooms are upstairs with views of the sea. One with king size bed and the other with bunkbeds, which has a third pull out bed if required. A travel cot is also available. The windows are all double glazed, there are wall mounted electric heaters in each room. The garden has a paved area, raised seated area (with glorious views of the sea and sunset) and small lawn. The spectacular Southwest Costal Path is a short walk from the cottage, with breath taking ocean views along the cliffs and hidden sandy coves. Geevor Tin Mine Museum and café and the village of Pendeen, with pubs, shops and a restaurant are a short walk away.

Please note, due to the layout and size of the cottage (due to its age) it may not be suitable for people who have difficulties with mobility. Please contact us with any questions.

I loved the cottage, it was clean, warm, cosy and comfortable. It had everything that we needed. The area is stunning, it's a spectacular bit of coast path. We loved the tin mine and managed to happily spend the whole day there when it was raining. We went to the village pub one evening and local musicians were jamming. The hosts were great at communicating with us and the lady who lives over the road and looks after the place was very helpful and friendly. I'd happily go and stay there again, I loved the place.

Very special place

This was my second visit with my husband and two young children and the cottage was, once again, simply magical for all of us. After a brisk walk on the spectacular and rugged coast or a day at the beach, entering through the thick stone walls one feels immediately warm and at home. Rooms are incredibly simply but beautifully put together with vintage and modern pieces in a way that is understated but warm and welcoming and perfectly respects the working history and environment. The cottage is well equipped and we did a fair bit of cooking, buying groceries from the very well stocked local shop but also regularly treated ourselves to fish and chips from Lillian's in the village. Our kids loved the bunk beds and running around in the enclosed garden at the front but I think my favourite was the double bedroom with sea views. Slept better there than I have done in years!

Tin Miner's Cottage

A week in a traditional 2 bed , dog friendly tin miner's cottage. Very well equipped , with everything you could need ( though no microwave which would have been useful). Beds were very comfortable and shower was excellent. We did feel that maybe a rejig of the sitting area might be appropriate as there is limited comfortable sitting space with only one sofa. Heather & Chris who oversee the property are absolutely lovely and incredibly helpful. All in all a great week was had.

Fantastic short break

The cottage was lovely and only a few minutes walk from the coastal path. Despite a mixed bag of weather, we enjoyed a couple of sunsets and a starry night. We had a car so as well as local coastal walks; enjoyed finding the many surrounding ancient stones and trips to the Barbara Hepworth Museum and The Minack Theatre. All of which were wonderful. We ate at The Gurnards Head and The Tinners Arms - both were faultless in ambiance, service and food quality. Would love to return again some day.

Loved this cottage!

We loved staying in this cottage with the thick walls, window seats, and creaky floors. We were very comfortable and were glad to have use of the kitchen and washer/dryer. We walked down part of the coastal path and enjoyed the views. Very clean and cozy!

Cosy Cottage

Character cottage in a wonderful location

The cottage is unspoiled, it has wonderful character and has been renovated without losing an authentic feel. The location is superb. We were able to see the sea from the bedrooms, and watch awesome sunsets from the garden. There were always parking spaces about thirty yards from the property. The cottage was very clean and had good facilities. The location would be hard to beat if you like the wild and 'real 'Cornwall. We had a super time, relaxing and chilled.

Tolle, moderne Dusche.

Fabulous cottage but facilities need updating

Very convenient location to the coastal path to Levant mine one way and Pendeen lighthouse the other. Kitchen very well equipped. Bed comfy. Stunning fireplace. New shower is amazingly powerful and great after a long day walking. Would recommend staying and would stay again. Communication with property owner was very good and made the booking process easier. Lost stars due to vrbo not listing the property correctly and the app not sending access code. Vrbo states there is an electricity meter and to bring £1 coins for power. There was no meter (gas and electricity freely available) so needn't of bothered trying to find £1s! There is a washer/dryer but vrbo states a washing line is available with launderettes nearby. Vrbo app didn't load the access code so I had to ring the property manager to be able to get in on a wet day!

Simple but a great stay!

The house is very clearly a family owned place and not over done as so many holiday let’s are . Simple and cosy in a location close to many walks , sites etc but off the main tourist drags. Fight your way around St Ives or Mousehole if you want but this was better. Walks from the doorway and 2 pubs within walking distance.

We are a family of three generations who live in London and all of us take turns at the cottage as there are now too many of us! It's been a very special and much loved place for us for over 44 years. We hope you enjoy it too.

Why they chose this property

We rented the property in the summer of 1977 and immediately loved it. The owners worked at Leach Pottery in St. Ives and the cottage was filled with wonderful pots. Leach tiles still surround the kitchen sink. The Geevor tin mine was still working then and we loved all the history of the area.

What makes this property unique

We loved the fact that it was a working village and not touristy when we bought it and it's still unspoilt. We like the view of the sea the most and being so near the most stunning coastal paths, coves for watching seals, basking sharks, pods of dolphin, and those amazing sunsets over the sea. We love those granite stone walls, the wood burning stove, and cosiness of the cottage. Best is the walk to "our" beach, Portheras!
