About this property

Family Friendly completely remodeled secluded vacation spot near Lake Shafer

This house was built in 1888 but was completely remodeled in 2016 to update all the amenities and to revive the beautiful historical details. This house is situated on 75 acres of woods and farm ground near Lake Shafer in Buffalo, IN. It is approximately 10 miles North of Indiana Beach. It is secluded enough for a much needed get away but located close enough to enjoy all the activities the area has. This house is great for families and for a couples get away. The parking area is large enough for several vehicles as well as a boat trailer. There are several boat launches close by for boating on Lake Shafer or Lake Freeman. If you don't have a boat of your own, there are rental places in the area that rent boats and wave runners.

The house is approximately 1700 sq ft and has 4 bedrooms and 1 bathroom with central A/C. The master bedroom is on the 1st floor and has a queen size bed. The first bedroom upstairs doubles as a TV room, but has a twin size trundle bed that sleeps two. The second bedroom upstairs has a king size bed and the third upstairs bedroom has two twin sized beds. There is also a separate laundry room and office area on the first floor. The kitchen and bathroom are fully furnished with items to get your stay started. We would recommend bringing additional items for longer stays. All linens are provided. This house also has an enclosed front porch great for relaxing.

The majority of the original part of the house still has the original hardwood floors that have been refinished as well as the original wood doors, trim and stairway. This house was built before building codes and sophisticated tools. The original stairway is made of wood and could be considered steep for some. The three upstairs bedrooms are all connected however each have their own door that can be shut for privacy. If you love charm and authenticity, this house is perfect.

Outside you will find a gas grill and a fire pit that is great for making memories around. The property also has a creek that runs through it creating a wonderful habitat for many deer and wild turkey (no hunting or ATV's allowed on this property). The property is great for taking walks, riding your bike and seeing nature.

Great getaway weekend!

Annual family getaway. Everyone had a great time. Enjoyed the farm house. There was room for all of us. Visited the area too, Buffalo, Monticello, and spent a day at Prophetstown State Park.

Very clean and nicely appointed house. For those with older folks staying-the stairs were steep and the railing wobbled. I didn't understand that all three bedrooms were connected upstairs so less privacy than expected.

Quiet weekend

Property was generally as described, peaceful & a good place to get away from all the craziness of life. The firepit was very large with ample space for a great bonfire. Overall, we would recommend this rental to anyone looking to relax.

Another Wonderful Stay

This was our second time renting this peaceful, beautiful, renovated farmhouse. The house is so spacious, nicely decorated, filled with charm, and has everything you will need for a relaxing stay. Michelle is very responsive, but we really had no issues during our visit. We hope to return in the future!

The home was beautiful and easy to check in. The stairs to the upstairs bedrooms are a little steep so my uncle slept downstairs on the couch. The enclosed patio is just perfect for coffee/wine sitting for a nice visit. We loved our stay and you will too.

Peaceful Farmhouse

We had a wonderful, relaxing time at this charming, renovated farmhouse. The setting is very peaceful, great for long walks, and filled with a large variety of birds and wildlife to enjoy. All of the rooms are quite spacious and beautifully decorated, and the kitchen is filled with all the essentials for cooking meals. We hope to return next year!

Great little house to stay at! Owner’s instructions were super easy to accommodate. I would just suggest a deep clean of the grill and stove, when we used them, they were pretty dirty making the grill hard to use and the house smoky when we used the oven

Farmhouse Getaway

Beautifully remodeled farmhouse with enough beds for 8 people to sleep comfortably. Large living room with bonus enclosed front porch. All the furnishings and kitchen appliances and utensils we needed. A great place for our whole family to be together. Only downside is that there’s only one bathroom. But we made it work.

House itself was nice and clean however the upstairs was a bit hot and the linen in the downstairs bedroom smelled old n mildew like and the location was a bit further out in the country then I liked but the listing did say secluded so I guess I should’ve expected that. Overall though it was a nice spacious house with nice appliances and really nice plush towels.

Over priced

We were traveling to visit family. The house is in a great location! We were surprised at the house , it has some details that on are not on the listing. The 2 bedrooms upstairs are conjoined rooms and the stairs are so steep that it’s dangerous for older folks and children. We did enjoy our stay despite the mice we had running around our kitchen leaving droppings everywhere….

It is decorated nicely and that makes it feel so cozy. -It is very clean!! -The kitchen is well stocked with cookware/utensils (just about everything you need) to cook a full meal. -The fire pit is great! -Michelle gives clear, detailed directions and instructions for your stay that are super helpful! -We were greeted with a lovely welcome basket filled goodies. Tranquil retreat

Amazing home with all the amenities. Plenty of property to walk around, excellent fire pit for bonding and chatting or relaxing and taking in the sounds of nature with subtle sounds of babbling waters that border the property. Inside the home is spacious with great beds!! A++ I would recommend for anybody looking for a peaceful getaway! Seamless experience with property owners. Just a weekend getaway with our kids and grandkids to Indiana Beach.

The house was beautiful. Very clean and accommodating hostess. Perfect for my family of 8 . The linens were clean and fresh, she even provided bath towels and wash cloths. The rooms up stairs did get a little warm the first night. The temps were in the high 90s during our visit. But I did find two stand up fans in cleaning closet while looking for a broom. Which we used in the rooms the second night and was perfect then. My family and I will definitely be back again next year for the same visit. Thanks Michelle.
