Beautiful beach cottage

I very much enjoyed my stay. The location is an easy drive from the main part of Gig Harbor and the area is stunningly beautiful. The house sits directly on the water with nothing obstructing the view. I slept in the upstairs bed and it was very comfortable. I enjoyed waking up and looking out on the water and watching the wildlife… I miss that part already! The owner is wonderful and was super easy to work with before and during the trip.

Waterfront views

This is the third time we have stayed here and it was just as good as we remembered. Property is well stocked with everything needed for a relaxing vacation. So close to the water that at high tide it's like you are on a boat. Lots of wild life sightings including a family of seals we saw each day. Only a short drive to downtown Gig Harbor.

Great views

Great views of the water throughout the property. Easy checkin. Great proximity to multiple locations - we visited Gig Harbor, Tacoma, Seattle and Olympia. It was unseasonably warm two days which made the upstairs too warm to hang out or sleep but the downstairs was comfortable with windows open and fans.

Amazing beach home

This is an amazing rental. The owner was incredibly helpful, showed my kids different types of sea life, gave us tips on the area and even called me when there were whales in the area. The house had a great layout and everything we needed. One of the previous reviews had mentioned a concern about no washer/dryer access but there is one. Just ask. They have a designated one for the unit. We are definitely going to stay here again. Thanks again Annie

Perfection

The Captain’s House hosted by Annie and her husband was a 10/10— they thought of everything down to a guide to the rocks & shells on the beach. The view was epic from each window, and we enjoyed greetings from a seal everyday off our deck— who the kids named, of course. The Captain’s House served as a great jumping off point for visiting Olympic NP, Mount Ranier, & Colombia River Gorge + The Fruit Loop. Our days not out seeing sights were VERY peaceful & filled with canoeing, doing puzzles, & exploring the squirting geoducks, crabs, & starfish on the shore. Could not have been more pleased!! Thank you for hosting us!!

Nothing short of incredible!

Perfect place to celebrate our Anniversary. Captains House did not disappoint! The views from every room are breathtakingly stunning. The views from the bedroom upstairs at night gave off a Sleepless in Seattle vibe (beyond romantic). Ann is a wonderful host, answering every inquiry quickly and thoroughly. The rental is luxury living with comfortable beds and linens and a kitchen equipped with everything you need. We enjoyed the kayaks provided. There was a harbor seal that likes to hang out in front of the house. The 4th of July fireworks are unlike any I’ve ever seen, magical on the water. Thank you, Dave and Ann! It was a real treat!

Amazing Views

This house does not disappoint. It has all the amenities and with the most breathtaking views. Sitting on the deck, relaxing and watching the marine life was top on our list. We saw seals and porpoises multiple times. The owner was so easy to communicate with and the whole process was very smooth. We cannot say enough about how wonderful this house was for our vacation.

Beautiful Place

The Captain’s House was absolutely beautiful, the location is nice, views are amazing, and the home is decorated and stocked with comfort in mind! The parking is just a tad tricky but it wasn’t the worst we have ever experienced. The home is stocked well and we had everything we needed, plus more. The beds are comfortable, plenty of linens available, and we really enjoyed the views and access to the beach. We would recommend this home to anyone who is in search of a relaxing trip to this area as it is within driving distance to Seattle and surrounding areas.

Lovely Beachfront House

We were in Gig Harbor for a wedding and decided to find a place on the water. Our stay at Captain's House was perfect in every way. It was super comfortable, clean, well equipped and even comes with the use of several kayaks. Favorite memories: Sunsets, sea life, meals on the deck and morning polar bear dunks. The host has thoughtfully put together a binder with the history of Captain's House, descriptions of local flora and fauna, restaurant recommendations, etc. Very interesting and helpful. P.S. I would not recommend to anyone with mobility issues (entryway) or young children (wire railing on deck is very loose). Otherwise, I highly recommend.

History, location, and glorious views!

A terrific base from which to explore Gig Harbor/Tacoma/Seattle. We thoroughly enjoyed the location and loved watching the ever-changing tides and seascape. At high tide, you feel like you're on a ship! At low tide, you can walk the stoney beach and make discoveries. We saw eagles, seals, deer, herons, geoducks, and much more. I love the history of the property; it was the Cromwell Ferry Ticket Booth! Thank you for the lovely getaway. The canoeing was divine! My only caveat, as described, is that there are steep stairs down to house and a spiral staircase inside, which can be difficult for toddlers or those with bad knees!

This is a Magical Place

This property is a spotless and beautifully appointed cottage on the water. At high tide the deck hangs out over the water! We had a great "Girls Weekend" here. The hosts could not have been more gracious with personal touches and responsiveness. We enjoyed wildlife sightings, paddling the kayaks, and watching the continuous shoreline changes with the tide. We were blessed with great weather and spent a good amount of time on the deck when we weren't exploring Gig Harbor and vicinity.

About the host

My husband Dave and I were married in 2015. I am from California and Dave from Washington. We both have grown children whom we are very close to. We decided that we would need to find a way to spend our time in both states to be near to our children and now, grandkids. We now split our time between the two places which can be very exhausting but so worth it. The property we bought in Washington had two homes on it. One we live in part time and the other is your vacation spot and the place where our children and friends stay when visiting. We are very happy that you will get to enjoy this amazing place.

Why they chose this property

When we married and were house hunting we came across this old rotting house on the side of the road that had been for sale for a long time. We decided to give it a look even though it was a major fixer upper. We got out of our car and turned the corner around the back of the house and were dumbfounded by the beauty of this property. There were two homes on this waterfront lot. One home sat right on the water, so right on the water that during high tide the water is actually under a part of the house. We soon learned that this run down cabin was once home to the Cromwell Ferry Ticket Booth. The second main home sat back a little from the water and was only partially complete. The walls had rotted out and the was water in the basement. There were many issues with the property but we knew the second we walked around the corner that we had to live here. We put our gloves on and with a lot of love, vision, help, money and time we transformed this property into a dream come true. We live in the main home and the cabin is for our family, friends and of course you. We feel truly blessed to wake up every morning to seals, eagles, otters, jellyfish, sand dollars, porpoise, waves, and a view that lets you know that God is God. This is a special place, a place where you feel peace. You can walk the beach, read on the deck, eat your meals looking out over the water and just relax. We were blessed to find this spot. Close to town, easy access, waterfront at its best. Everything has been redone and is beautiful. We even put a large window in the shower so you can stare out over the water while you are in there. Our kids do not want to leave when they come visit and that is a good thing. We are excited for you to stay
