Location amd house were wonderful. Outside was equally nice (fire pit, chairs, beautiful lake). Communication with owner was good also. Two pieces of feedback would be: 1st, to have some spare batteries fornthe thermostat somewhere (we were without air conditioning for the night as the batteries went out). 2nd, to have shampoo, conditioner amd body soap available for guests as well as a few kitchen spices available. All in all, our small group really enjoyed our stay at this home

House needs a lot of attention. Peeling deck paint, terrible water pressure. Couldn’t do dishes and take shower at same time. Kitchen sink needs work.

Great Family Getaway

A lot of items to use on the lake were available. We had children from 18 - 4 years old and they all enjoyed this vacation spot. Close to Traverse City was also a plus.

Family getaway

A great property for our large family on our annual wine weekend getaway. Enjoyed the location and amenities. The visit from a flock of free-range chickens in the yard was an unexpected treat. Highly recommend. Thank you!

Great house and convenient location

We stayed in this house with our three teenagers and my brothers family. The "kids" loved being on the water and access to water trampoline. House is very clean, nice and comfortable. Would recommend staying here.

Great Weekend

We did a girls weekend and it was perfect. The house was clean and well equipped. Beds were comfortable and the rooms nicely done. The only thing I would love as a guest is not having to bring toilet paper and garbage bags.

Extended family vacation

We had the best time on our extended family vacation. The place was great and was exactly what we were expecting. Kurt was wonderful. Responded quickly to all of my messages and was extremely helpful when our boat rental fell thru. Plenty to do right on the property and easy day trips to town, Sleeping Bear Dune and the wineries.

Perfect Family Getaway!

We couldn't have asked for an easier or more perfect stay for our three night visit. We were three families, 6 adults and 5 kids, with plenty of room to rest, relax, and enjoy everything the property had to offer. The kids enjoyed the trampoline and paddle boat and floor to themselves to hang out. We all loved meals and coffee and games on the deck. A great, well appointed home with everything you need. Close to town, and worth a walk to Peegeos tavern (try the charbroiled wings!) Thanks for a great visit. Would stay again!

Best family vacation!!!!

This house was beautiful and had a TON of room. The house and property are very well maintained. The owner was super nice and helpful. Thank you for the recommendation to eat at Pearl's in Elk Rapids - it was wonderful! Our family had a very relaxing week together. We are already planning next year's vacation and will be renting this location again. Thank you for sharing your rental with us!!

Perfect Getaway!

The house is very nice and acommodated all 12 of us nicely. Love the big dining area, so we could all eat together at meals. Description was accurate, property is clean and well maintained. This is the 3rd time I've stayed here for a girl friend week-end and we always have a great time. Ten minutes from Traverse City and a ton of things for all to do. I'll be back:)

Great vacation property

4 families stayed here and we had such a lovely time. The peacefulness of the property was great, and lots of places to sit and chat. We used the fire pit almost every night! Being right on the water gave so many options for not getting out. Plenty of activities with the trampoline, kayaks, and boats. Bike rentals close by, and lots of trails. Downtown and shops for Traverse City is about a 15 min drive. Owner met us on sight to make sure all was well. Thank you so much for the stay, and a wonderful place for a family reunion!

Great setting

Our stay was only for 3 nights but it was a great joy to come home from a long day of sight-seeing, shopping, and wine tasting to this warm home. We actually even had a day in the 80's and though long and hard about taking a dip in the beautiful lake but the toe test failed so we settled for drinks and conversation on the boat dock. Not Bad! The owner gave us some specific to do's while we were in town and that added to our visit to the area. Would not look any further for a place to call home next time we come to town.

Great Getaway for Large Group

Our family enjoyed a wonderful winter weekend at the High Lake Hideaway. We had a large group and very much appreciated all the space. There were plenty of beds, rooms, and bathrooms for our entire group. Additionally, it was so nice to be able to all eat meals together at the dining room table - it was also great for big group games. The home is very close to great cross-country skiing which we all enjoyed and is just a few minutes drive from Traverse City. I would highly recommend this home for anyway looking to rent for a large group in the Traverse City area. We hope to be back next year! Thanks to Kurt and Tammy for providing our family with a place where we created fun winter memories!

Girls Trip

My friends and I enjoyed our stay at High Lake Hideaway. The house was nice and it was clean. The lake is beautiful and it was quiet when we were there. The refrigerator could stand to be replaced. The refrigerator ran very cold. Even when we turned it up as high as we could, some of our liquids began to freeze. The outside decks and stairs need to be painted. An umbrella on the deck would be nice as cover for the morning sun. We enjoyed the kayaks, paddle boat and water trampoline. When we were there in August, the ducks were there too which does affect the small beach area.

A Hidden Gem

In preparation for a family reunion of 30+ people, two of us served as a scouting party and stayed at this beautiful property for two nights. It was like walking into someone’s home that had everything you’d need, was so clean and most comfortable. It’s setting is quiet and serene and close to all the delights the area has to offer. As it turned out, we wound up having our reunion at Brookside Cottages, a newly acquired property for Tammy and Kurt and it was the perfect spot for our group. While the properties are very different, both are in beautiful settings, thoughtfully furnished, clean, comfortable and welcoming. And they both share the same magic ingredient – Tammy and Kurt!

Guestbook Comment

Our family has been enjoying family vacations for many years and we have stayed at many places in Michigan. This has been one of the most beautiful and user friendly places we have visited. The owners were so accomadating and helpful. One of the favorite activities of the grandchildren was the water trampoline and rowing across the lake to the well equiped party store. The lake and little beach was perfect for the little ones to enjoy and feel safe. Walks and runs around the lake was a daily activity for the adults as we were walking off all the great meals we cooked on the weber grill. I only hesitated to write this because we want to make sure we get our week next year.

Wonderful Vacation

We had a wonderful time at Highlake Hide-away. The home was exactly as described. The property is large with plenty of room for running and exploring. My daughter loved chasing the chipmunks. High Lake is not a large lake, but we only saw on boat the whole week that was moving fast enough to make a wake. You are allowed to ski/tube/wakeboard, we just did not see anyone doing it. Great fire pit by the lake and a wonderful deck for sitting out and enjoying an outdoor meal. I highly recommend this home to anyone traveling with a large group. It would be perfect for two large families or several small families looking to vacation together.

Perfect Vacation Property - Even Better Than Expected!

What a remarkable property! Beautiful, tastefully appointed, super clean, with wonderful amenities! We didn't want for a single thing except more time to enjoy this wonderful vacation property. Whether watching the sunrise from the master suite, the back deck, or fishing right off the dock, the day starts beautifully and serenely. So many options for enjoying the lake plus all of the "Pure Michigan" attractions within just minutes guarantee your only dilemma will be what to choose. The home is so comfortable with fireplaces and multiple spaces for activities (and different age groups) you almost wish for a rainy day to stay inside and enjoy. Owners Kurt and Tammy have thought of everything and created a hideaway that will become part of our family vacation plans from here on. Thank you so much!

You get what you pay for

We rented this home as a two family early summer get away feeling the space and amenities would be great for 4 adults and 6 children. For the most part that statement was true, but the house is in need of upkeep. There were multiple light bulbs out, a loose stair on the steps going upstairs, multiple cracked lower quality Adirondack chairs, a leaky old dishwasher, an underwhelming number of forks and usable spatulas, a deck in need of painting, a grill missing a drip tray along with an unusual sign in each bathroom about fishing out whatever goes down the toilets. We reached out to the property manager (in all fairness toward the end of the stay as none of these things were emergent we did not call the emergency number) and did not hear back till after we left. Many of these maintenance issues should’ve been noticed and addressed by a regular walk through or via the cleaning crew and hopefully/seemingly were addressed after the fact. At the end of the day we had a nice time at high lake hideaway, but this is not a perfect or above average rental. My wife’s comment is where I’ll end “you get what you pay for.” Next time we will look to spend a little more…
