Situated on the owners’ 40-acre Highland cattle farm, just 2½ miles from the village of Llanddewi Brefi. This lovely former pig sty has been converted to a high standard throughout, with under floor heating throughout. This ground floor accommodation has a large open plan living, dining and kitchen area, with patio doors leading to the rear garden and patio area. There is a family bathroom with bath and shower over the bath, two bedrooms, one twin room and a kingsize room with TV and en-suite shower room, this room also has remote control velux blinds.

The village lies on the banks of the Afon Brefi and dates back to the 1st century when the Romans set up camp in a settlement known as Bremia (bubbling stream). There is an interesting local legend to discover whilst here as to how the village later came to be known as Llandewi Brefi! In centuries gone by it was a thriving and bustling place on the drovers’ route taking livestock to London and beyond. Today the village is rather more peaceful but still has a village shop for your essential supplies and two warm and welcoming inns.

The area abounds with walks and cycle routes (plenty starting from the cottage) and mountain biking opportunities. The market town of Tregaron is 3 miles away with shops, the Rhiannon Welsh Gold Centre, and an award-winning restaurant and pub. Just a mile beyond, you will find the stunning Cors Caron Nature Reserve, over 2000 acres of finest raised bog system with an access-friendly boardwalk route through it. Visit the ruins of the 12th-century Cistercian Abbey at Strata Florida and explore the Cambrian Mountains by car, bicycle or on foot. A variety of guided walking tours are available via local organisers. A 35-minute drive will bring you to the fantastic Ceredigion coastline with its beaches (many are dog friendly year-round), dolphin-watching boat trips, and the university town of Aberystwyth with its cliff railway, pier and long promenade. Also worth a visit is the attractive Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron, famous for pastel coloured properties and honey ice cream. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

Fantastic Retreat

I took my mother up to see an old friend, the cottage was beautiful, immaculate inside and in a stunning location, tucked away on a small working farm. The owners who own the farm could not have been more lovely, daily chats, allowing us to see their animals and life. The house is ideal for two couples or a couple with two children. It is beautifully laid out with everything you need to make your stay easy. You do have to drive to go anywhere, but believe me the journeys are amazing through stunning and beautiful countryside. Super market in Lampeter and more local shops in Tregaron. We were able to say hello to prize sheep, see sheep having their hair cut, and seeing the prize highland cattle. All in all, what a lovely, quiet, rural and peaceful place to spend time. I could live there for ever.
