There are many historic houses in the area, such as Montacute House and Gardens, and Forde Abbey and Gardens, or, guests can drive to Glastonbury Tor and walk to the top with some magnificent views of Somerset, call in Clarkes Village for some outlet bargains, head for a day out in Bath or visit Wells Cathedral. The Quantocks and Exmoor National Park are not far away and for a trip back in time, travel from Taunton along the West Somerset Steam Railway to Minehead. Going south, visit West Dorset and Devon, maybe spending a day or two exploring the World Heritage Jurassic coastal resorts of Sidmouth, Seaton, and Lyme Regis. The county town of Taunton is also well worth a visit, with its many shops, restaurants, and places of interest.
