The Dog House is the converted kennel building of a 19th century shooting lodge close to Llandegla Mountain Bike Centre and the famous Horse Shoe Pass it is the perfect retreat from everyday routine to repair one's soul. With the windows open or sitting in the hot tub you can hear the relaxing noises of the stream and birds in the trees that surround the property. It has a double bed with Egyptian Cotton sheets with views of the valley and the stream. There is a wood burning stove to keep you warm and cosy. The kitchen has a gas hob, microwave, mini oven, toaster and kettle. The veranda with comfy wicker chairs overlooking the stream is perfect for watching the sun set. A piece of Paradise.... Your hosts, Margaret and Jenny have lived in their Victorian hunting lodge, Faraway for over 40 years and in 2016 they made the decision to share their piece of paradise with you by opening Owl Lodge to paying guests. This was received with such enthusiasm that they then decided to convert an old kennel building and hence The Doghouse was opened in 2018 along with the Treehouse and gypsy caravans at Copse Camp and with that Faraway Follies was born.
Sustainable Travel Reducing the environmental impact of Faraway Follies is important to us. So where ever we can we reduce the amount of plastics we use and recycle as much as we can. We gained our Green Key accreditation in only our 3rd year in business and still look to make improvements to whatever we do.
Health and Wellbeing We believe that looking after your mind and body are of primary importance. Faraway Follies is fast becoming a centre of holistic wellness with monthly day retreats and bi monthly soundbaths. However the Secret Sauna and Penguin Pool take centre stage in our approach to the health of the mind and body. You don't have to stay at Faraway Follies to enjoy these facilities but of course, if you are staying here they are here for your enjoyment.
The Lodges There are three places to stay. Owl Lodge can sleep 4 people with a double bedroom and a king sized sofa bed in the living area. The Doghouse is a more romantic space for two people beside a babbling brook. And Copse Camp is the home of our treehouse with two gypsy caravans that can sleep 6 people. Each of the spaces have their own wood fired hottub.
This Part of Wales We are perfectly situated for all the activities that North Wales has to offer. Whether that is walking in the mountains, canoeing, white water rafting, mountain biking, fishing, exploring historic sites or simply sitting and taking in the stunning views and sun sets. Its all here for you at Faraway Follies.

Lovely relaxing getaway in North Wales!
This is our second stay at Faraway Follies and we have just booked for December.
Jenny and Mags are wonderful and welcoming hosts and are on hand if you need anything.
The lodges are really quirky, cosy and comfortable - and equipped with everything you need. I think they're really good value for money when you compare them with other offerings across the country.
The sauna and pool is wonderful and there are lots of nice walks from the doorstep.

Excellent accomodation - facilities, location so relaxing. Plenty to do in the surrounding area.
Relaxing on the veranda with a glass of wine listening to the birds and bubbling brook or a dip in the hot tub. Snuggling in front of the log fire with a good book.
There is plenty to do in the area whether strolling around Llangollen, local walks or visiting the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

Absolutely charming!
The peace and tranquility - the sound of the babbling brook at night - the outdoor hot tub was a treat - cosying up by the fire. An absolute treat to escape the hurly burly of the city and really switch off.

Blissful rural retreat
Perfect opportunity to relax, reconnect and nourish the soul: beautiful countryside, fabulous local walks, peaceful evenings. Availability of local produce was a lovely touch (stocked up at Rosie's Cider shop on our departure).

About the host
Hosted by Host
We keep bees, chickens, sheep and goats here at our 19th century shooting lodge on the edge of a grouse moor in Wales. We have lived here together for 48 years. We used to have a food business that sold pâté and relishes across the UK and beyond so we love good food. We have enjoyed travelling around the world. We grow fruit and vegetables and enjoy our garden. Jenny is a trained crystal and sound therapist and Margaret and I both have a very creative nature. Many of Margaret"s art works adorn the walls of Owl Lodge, The Dog House and our home. We are always ready to help to make your stay as peaceful and trouble free as we can.
