Refreshingly cool in summer, 18th century gite, centre Forcalquier
This charming gite was originally a stable in the 18th century. Several decades ago, it was lovingly restored and converted into a home - 86m2, is on two levels, in the old part of Forcalquier. Refreshingly cool in summer. For winter there is central heating and a wood burner. Close to everything yet tucked away enough to remain quiet even in the busy summer months. Restaurants, shops and the famous Monday market are all close but as the gite is at the end of a quiet road you're unlikely to be disturbed.
Ground floor is a 43m2 open-plan kitchen, dining and living room. First floor has two bedrooms, bathroom and an ample landing with a large terrace leading from it (three steps down from the landing).
Please note that while there is only one flight of stairs, they are a little steep. Please see photos.
Before departure, please remove bed linen and towels, and place them on the floor in front of the washing machine.
Please empty all rubbish bins and place rubbish in the large bins in the street.
Please wash dishes before departure.

We stay at Alison's place for one week. We enjoyed the the old village, and found few beautiful hikes in the era. The house is clean and nice arrange. We have got everything we asked for. Recommended.
This is a very special apartment in the old town section of Forcalquier. Its history is evident in the beautifully restored details —both inside and out— of original stone, wood and tile, but with all new upgraded amenities. If you are looking to experience the charming character at the heart of the “Vieux Village,” this stay is for you! Very well situated behind the main cathedral in the city center, it’s walking distance to bars, restaurants, shops, boulangeries, and art galleries. The historic Citadel is a short hike up cobblestone alleyways on the hill above. There is an epicerie for grocery needs a few blocks away, as is the Monday morning market. Allison’s kitchen is fully equipped, including a patio as plus since many “maisons-village” do not have private exterior space. One word of caution for all ancient French townhouses: stairs can be irregular, narrow and steep, but in our opinion only adds to an authentic experience, as you are reliving hundreds of years of history. Allison is a gracious multilingual host and an excellent resource for English speaking visitors. The location provided both accessibility to the heart of town and privacy all in one. Very high recommendations!
Having lived in the region for many years, I have personally visited many of the places in the area and beyond. I am happy to answer any of questions on where to visit and what hikes to go on. There are so many to choose from. I live right next door to the gite and will be happy to guide you in your choices and introduce you to this beautiful region.
Why they chose this property
This property offers the experience of staying in an old country gite while at the same time being right in the old part of Forcalquier. It is tucked away from the bustle of restaurants but just a few minutes' walk to reach them. The added advantage of this property is being able to park right in front of the gite if you want to. Equally there is parking in the street very close by. You will also be very close to the cathedral, boulangerie and other small shops, and a few minutes' climb up cobbled streets to the citadel.
