Rural cottage near Saintes

This is a spacious (125m2) and very comfortable cottage set in the grounds of a 19th century Manor house, tastefully restored. Consists of two large bedrooms, sleeping 5 (plus cot for baby), bathroom, large living room (36m2), kitchen and dining room. Outside there is an al fresco dining/BBQ area and extensive gardens for children to play in, including a tree-house with slide.

The gite is situated in a rural setting close Port d'Envaux and the Charente river, in a small hamlet of 10 houses, just 10 minutes drive north of the historic roman city of Saintes. Local boulangerie : 10-minute walk, local grocery shop in Port d'Envaux : 2-minute drive. The magnificent Chateau de la Roche Courbon is just a 10-minute drive.

Guests really appreciate this ideal central location: 30 minutes from historic Cognac and 30 minutes from Royan and beautiful sandy beaches (45 minutes). The beautiful town of La Rochelle is just under an hour away and you can also spend great days out visiting the unspoilt islands of Ile de Ré, ile d'Oleron, Ile d'Aix and Ile Madame, as well as the famous “Fort Boyard”.
The Charente-Maritime also offers a wide variety of tourist attractions: charming villages, magnificent chateaus, historic forts and gastronomic delights.

For cyclists, there are hundreds of kilometres of cycling paths for mountain bikes and classical bikes going through beautiful pine forests and along breath-taking coastlines.

For the children : several go-ape/zip-wire centres ('acrobranche') , Futuroscope theme park (near Poitiers), various water parks, aquarium in La Rochelle, one of the most well known zoos of Europe at La Palmyre, and of course miles of beautiful sandy beaches....

Take a quick boat trip across the Gironde estuary to visit the beautiful Medoc wine region, or even visit the grand city of Bordeaux, just over an hour's drive away.

The nearest airports are: La Rochelle (50 minutes), Poitiers (1.25 hours) and Bordeaux (1.25 hours). The gite is situated close to the A10 motorway with the nearest exits at Saintes (10 minutes) and Saint Jean d'Angély (20 minutes).

Fantastic holiday !!

We stayed at Gite Ecureuil for two weeks with our two nine year old sons. They had a fantastic time playing in the pool, exploring the garden to find where the chickens had layed their eggs. It was a very relaxing location and the pool was a very welcome relief from the 38 degree temperatures. Andrew( the host) was extremely helpful when needed but left you to get on with things. The Gite is very tastefully decorated and comfortable. All in all staying at Gite Ecureuil made for a fantastic family holiday. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Relaxing 2 weeks holiday .

The accommodation was spacious ,and comfortable . Although only 2 of us staying . it definitely met the criteria stated for up to 5 persons . All the facilities were in good working order , and covered all our needs . A nice large garden with an outside dining area , good shady spaces to recline , although the unsettled weather being such , there were few occasions when the opportunity arose . This also included use of the pool . However this did not detract from the holiday as there were many interesting places to visit all within reasonable distance .. The host Andrew was welcoming , and helpful .

Superbe sejour en bords de charente

Nous avons passé de belles vacances de longues balades sur les nombreux chemins qui sillonnent la campagne .nous avons bien profité de la picsine et du grand terrain arboré et équipé du proprietaire .il y a tout ce qu'il faut pour les enfants cabane balancoires ect..

Le gite est parfaitement situé au Nord de Saintes, à proximité de magnifiques endroits à visiter et où se promener. Andrew est un hote attentionné, réactif et à l'écoute : c'est très appréciable ! Le gite est fonctionnel et propre. Les exterieurs sont grands et ont été rès apprécies des enfants. Le bémol concerne l'indisponibilité de la piscine au moment de notre location. Nous espérions en profiter mais elle n'était pas prête pour la saison.

Magnifique jardin

Nous avons séjourné dans cette propriété fin août. Ce fut une agréable semaine , le jardin est vraiment grand et très sympa . Andrew qui est aussi sur site , est discret et nous à permis de se sentir chez nous ! Je conseille cette maison pour passer un séjour au calme mais loin de rien !

la propriété est jolie, la piscine agréable, les jeux bienvenus pour les enfants et nous avons pu rayonner pour découvrir la région, les sites alentours ou plus éloignés. notre hôte a gentiment répondu à nos interrogations avant notre arrivée et à nos sollicitations pendant le séjour. le gîte est juste un peu rustique en ce qui concerne les couchages, l'éclairage.

Charmante maison charentaise idéalement située. Petit plus pour les petites attentions de notre hôte à notre arrivée. Seul petit bémol, le mobilier s'inscrit parfaitement dans le thème "manoir" mais commence à dater un peu au détriment du confort.

Great stay in charming Gite

Lovely location just north of Saintes and 30 minutes from the beaches. Enjoyed lots of refreshing dips in the pool. Large gardens to enjoy. Would highly recommend

Great stay!

Had a fantastic time at Gite Ecureuil. Owner was always there if we needed anything but also left us to enjoy our holiday. Gite had everything we needed and my young children loved the grounds to play. The pool being on the raised decking is perfect for little ones. Such a relaxing location but within a short drive of loads of great places to visit. The local Super U just 15 mins drive is huge and had everything we needed. Would definitely like to return in the near future.

Très jolie maison, mais.....

Très jolie maison, fort spacieuse, mais l'accueil des propriétaires était plus que glacial, nous avions l'impréssion d'êtres des intrus dans leur propriété, ils nous évitaient. Dommage que la maison est si près de l'autoroute !
