Disappointed in hot tube, one of the amenities that we were looking forward to. Hot tube had leaves in it, was dirty and water cold. Everything else was fine

Valued Guest,
We sincerely apologize that the hot tub was unavailable during your stay. Unfortunately, our area experienced several winter storms, and due to freezing temperatures the hot tub maintenance company was unable to safely service the unit. As communicated prior to your arrival, the hot tub was down at that time, and we regret any disappointment this caused.
Our goal is always to provide a five-star experience with high-quality amenities at our cabin, and situations like severe weather are never something we can control. Many guests do visit Banner Elk during the winter specifically to enjoy the seasonal scenery and “winter wonderland” atmosphere, and we hope you were still able to experience some of that during your trip.
Again, we truly apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
Kind regards,

The cabin is beautiful. However, it looked like it hadn't been dusted in a while. Towels and wash cloths were in the dryer instead of folded and put away. There was no communication about the hot tub that was broken and there were no dish towels and pot holders. We tried to grill out and the propane tank to the grill was empty. Although these were minor inconveniences to the reason why we booked this cabin, we still had a great time.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely cabin. The home had everything we needed and more. The owner was quick to answer all questions and provided a great manual for renters to help with questions, and offer suggestions for the area. There is so much to do in this area and the cabin was central to it all. We would definitely stay here again!

Thank you for choosing our cabin. We hope you enjoyed your stay.
The home was beautiful, updated and clean. Kitchen was well stocked. Propane fireplace made for a cozy comfy living room. There were deer right outside the door. Exactly what you'd hope for a house in the NC mountains.
Cabin is beautiful. Super convenient to both sugar and Beech Mountain and the owner is very nice was helpful and made the whole process. Simple and straightforward. Would definitely and plan on coming back here again, so get it again before I do.

Hmm. Thank you for your review. But honestly it makes no sense. The water for the cabin comes out of mountain well. This is perfect water which is free of any chemicals and additives. Also what was not clean ? You never communicated with us that anything was not in order. We take pride in our cabin and want for our guests only the best.
Cozy three bedroom A frame type cabin with wood and slate floors. Kitchen had the things we needed. I would suggest to add some pot holders :) . The cleaner was still there when we arrived at 4:15 but it did not stop us from unloading our cars. He was very nice and gave us his number to call if there was anything still needed. It’s in a very quiet neighborhood. It does sleep 8 people but 4 must sleep in bunk beds. It worked out great for us with three children and two couples. Very close to Sugar mountain, Beech mountain and Grandfather mountain.

Disappointed for the price
Pros:
Location was great. We enjoyed hiking at the local and national parks in the area. We enjoyed star gazing and making a fire pit in the front yard.
Cons:
There were not enough lights in the house. We ended up moving lamps around so we could play card games and cook dinner etc. The overhead lights are not powerful enough.
There was dog poop under one of the beds and food in the sheets of the bunk beds. We ended up having to wash the kids sheets before they could go to bed, and the bunk room smelled awful. We ended up opening the windows to try to air out the room. There were not enough towel hooks (and we only have 5 people). The towel bar in the master bath was barely hanging on to the wall.
For a house that sleeps 8 people, only 4 could sit at the table and the bar stools were bar height stools for a counter height table, which meant your knees hit the counter if you tried sitting and your food was down at your knees. The adults ended up just standing and eating the entire visit. When we arrived there was only one tiny cutting board (like for cocktails). With Covid we had planned on making all of meals. I contacted the owner asking if there was another cutting board. The response was ~ there used to be one. I asked if he had a local service that could help. I.e. we had just driven up to the cabin and I was trying to get stuff done (washing the sheets and sanitizing everything because I didn't trust the cleaning crew). The owners response was ~ go buy one from the store. I would have been happy to do that and leave the cutting board if he had even offered to reimburse us. So we ended up spending a portion of our vacation hunting for a cutting board (we had brought all our own food to avoid wasting vacation time). Also, many of the locals weren't wearing masks in stores so we were trying to avoid that. So, if we had paid a portion of the price and it wasn't advertised as "luxury" rental, I wouldn't have been quite as disappointed. For over a $1k for 3 nights....

It’s the little things...
It’s the little things that matter most to me and with this one seemed to add up.
Right after purchase we were quickly told that we could only bring our dog if we paid a non-refundable 250 per deposit (per dog). Only after I mentioned bringing our dog did the owner say this (after we had already reserved and paid). Anytime there is a pet deposit it is mentioned and taken care of AT THE TIME OF RESERVATION, so this was a let down as it said it was pet-friendly and there was no mention of a NR pet deposit. Already had a high priced regular cleaning fee too. Said they’d have to steam clean the carpets because of people with allergies (but no mention of bedding, rugs and couches?) Point being : if you’re going to allow dogs there is no way to completely turn a rental back into one safe for a person with a true dog allergy. It just doesn’t work that way. I could see an increased pet fee just in the off chance that a dog made a mess while staying - I get that. But, steam cleaning carpet? That does nothing for allergies. So, we didn’t bring our dog.
The rugs definitely smelled of dog and didn’t appear cleaned. The couch had visible dog hairs on it (just a few and didn’t bother us).
Upon arrival we were thankful we drove the 4Runner and not my Outback. The turn into the parking pad at top of driveway had horrible deep muddy pot holes with very little gravel. Made for a tough turn in and out each time we left even with 4WD.
Considering the time of year it would have been nice to have some salt left for us on or near the stairs going up, as it had been raining and they were covered with ice.
The coffee pot carafe was cracked and when I wrote them they made no offer or gesture to replace for us. So, no coffee pot.
They make big deal about all the cookware? We found just a hodge-pudge of pots and pans with no matching lids, etc. no pizza pan or pizza cutter (really?). Nice dishes I guess and lots of coffee cups that we couldn’t use....so we ate out.
There are no towel racks in bathroom upstairs and no shelves in bathroom for toiletry bag. Never found a hair dryer. Downstairs toilet needs new handle and tank doesn’t fill all the way. Have to play with it. A couple of lightbulbs burned out and we replaced. Told them and they responded not to replace any. Sorry but....Overpriced IMO and way too many air fresheners in walls and drawers. We unplugged a few because we couldn’t stop sneezing. Sorry but, it wasn’t that great of a place....

Thank you for leaving a detailed response which seems to be a bit off.
We were just at our cabin at the beginning of February. We replaced all light bulbs, steam cleaned the carpet and when we left everything was in 100% order. As you can see we have 4 and 5 star reviews. If something is not up to par we will fix or replace it. This is our second home so we take pride in our cabin. I do not know if this guest read our description properly or not, we do have a $100.00 non refundable pet policy. We have pets ourselves and we know how much mess they make. Usually the cleaning service has to spend more time in the cabin to clean it properly. A $250.00 cleaning fee is charged if a puppy has accidents. I am sure you agree that no-one wants to step on a dirty carpet. To sum up, the cabin was in perfect shape when we left. I was unaware of any problems with the coffee pot prior to this complaint. We replaced the coffee maker in the meantime. There is also a spare coffee maker in the pantry. I am sorry I do not comprehend what the guest is talking about. We have a wide range of different pots and frying pans with lids, new cutting boards and more kitchen knives than one can imagine. We do have at least 10 large and small kitchen knives and a peeler. If this is not enough, then I do not know. We also have a microwave and several plastics and glass bowels for salad, popcorn, and anything you would like to cook. My wife is an excellent chef, so she makes sure that we have proper cooking gear at the cabin.
I also do not understand the comment of the drive way. We have the road paved all the way from the main road to the cabin. The 2 parking spots on top next to the cabin are gravel though. Since I do not reside in the state, I am unable to supply salt as that can vary on need and the weather is always unpredictable.
There is plenty of space to hang towels. Also I do not know what the guest is talking about. If the guest should have looked in the cabinet under the sink he/she would have found the hair dryer. We can only provide amenities, just as you would need to bring your own supplies to a hotel.
Again, the cabin was in perfect shape when left. Something does not sound right. Please read the comment of the guest and you can see this does not make sense.
We enjoyed out stay at the “Eagles Nest” and everything was just as described on VRBO and perfect for our family and pets. Nice cabin tucked away in the mountains of North Carolina that is less than 10 minutes from Banner Elk. If you travel in the winter months make sure you have a 4x4 as there are some steep inclines and winding roads on the way in to the property. The skiing at Sugar and Beech mountains was easy to access from the cabin. The neighbors were friendly and helpful as well. We would definitely book another stay at this property.
It was our first time renting a place for the holidays over New Years with our family and fur babies and it was by far a GREAT experience. The cabin is EXACTLY how the pictures look. It was clean, spacious and overall comfortable. The only issue was the driveway not being paved but there is additional parking space out front if your not able to drive up on the rocks. The cabin is a great get away and close to ski resorts and other High Country destinations. Ulrich is a great host and very responsive. We are already talking about renting again for next year.
Enjoyed our stay here for a quick weekend family get away. House was well equipped with everything we needed and the size was perfect for our family of four. Location was convenient to Banner Elk for restaurant options. Really enjoyed the large porch for morning coffee.
We absolutely loved this cabin. It is centrally located to many attractions that the area has to offer. It was very clean and properly equipped. Everything was in great condition and the property manager was very easy to communicate with. We would stay here again.
Rented this cabin for a birthday weekend getaway. It was the perfect size for my husband and 2 children. Only a short drive to downtown Banner Elk. We enjoyed the privacy of the cabin as well!
My family had a wonderful visit for a spring break getaway to the mountains. This home was in a great location for what we were looking to do (hike, bike aand relax!) It was very well maintained and comfortable. The kitchen had your basic necessities and we had no issues. The owner was quick to reply and very responsive. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to get away and enjoy peaceful surroundings. So glad we went!
It was a nice property. I enjoyed my stay.
Cons: There were a few problems I noticed like there were dirty dishes, stains on the pillows and covers, the lights were very dim making it harder to see at night. The property was even a lot smaller than I had imagined.
Pros: BUT none of that ruined my experience there. Me and my group of 6 fit in with no issues, the cabin was in a great area, There was a-lot to see and do close-by. Ulrich was very responsive when I had questions. I’m glad I got to have this experience thanks to Ulrich. I would definitely stay here again! Thanks!
A great place to come home to after a day outdoors, relaxing quiet location
