Excellent cottage, poor management
This cottage is very comfortable for a family stay but the management company, Syke Cottages, provide a poor service. There was a blocked drain during our stay which got very smelly, overflowing outside the front door. I tried contacting here in Vrbo on the booking message thread - no reply; I couldn't find any direct way to to contact them in the many emails they sent me leading up to the stay or on their company website. I finally found a customer support number through a 3rd party customer complaints site!! I phoned them and they told me the housekeeper would be called but nothing happened to rectify the overflowing drain during the next few days of our stay. After being used to quick and friendly replies from owners directly the hunt to contact Syke Cottages and lack of resolution was very frustrating. I appreciate a management company provides convenience for property owners but I'd suggest the owners of Smithy Cottage drop Syke Cottages if they can. They do a lovely property a disservice!
