Turtle Rock Retreat - Old home of the head of the Holston Zinc Mine
Turtle Rock Retreat began its life as the lodging for the head of the mine run by the Holston Zinc Company. Most reports agree the town of Mascot was named as an acronym of "Mining and Smelting Company of Tennessee."
The house was given to my grandfather in 1967 who moved there with his family when he became lead engineer at the mine. My grandparents eventually sold the home to my parents. In the years since my sister and her husband lived there for a time, and it hosted my wedding (one of many family weddings since 1967).
The house has cable and internet access, as well as an assortment of DVDs and many books. We hope you will spend much of your time outside, walking the seven acres, visiting the Smokies, or taking advantage of the ever increasing cultural activities available in nearby Knoxville.

This was our Thanksgiving "away" from home. The house worked perfect for this - The downstairs provides lots of open space where everyone can spread out, yet still be together. We took advantage of the fireplace, had room for games (sometimes multiple games going). The kitchen is huge with lots of counter space, able to accommodate our feast!
We were in Knoxville for our son's graduation and stayed for two nights. We lost power due to a downed limb from all the rain but the owner took care of calling the local utility and we had a utility truck there and power back on within an hour or so.
The property was clean and historical and was big enough to accomadate everyone. We really enjoyed having coffee on the wrap around porch in the mornings.

Very cool house, plenty of space for everyone.
Tons of room for everyone, the surrounding area was beautiful. Not too far from Knoxville at all. Would definitely go back with lots of family and friends.
