The Space:
Hummingbird Lodge is situated on forested land filled with rhododendron, ferns, lupine, and berry bushes. Hammocks and swing, hung in the warmer months, and Adirondack chairs invite you to enjoy the beauty of the land comfortably. Or you may choose to soak in the hot tub as you watch the bluebirds, hummingbirds, and squirrels play in the cedars and Douglas firs.
Our youngest guests enjoy searching for fairies in the woods, building forts, and taking nature walks, all within our fenced 10 acre property. Let them wander without concern, and then call them back with the dinner bell on the back deck.
THE DECK: Includes a spacious dining table and umbrella, as well as a Char Broil gas grill.
THE HOUSE: For those preferring the indoors, lounge in the great room under soaring log ceilings by the fire, or cook for friends in the open kitchen. Share your meal at the custom-built, live edge dining table, lovingly crafted by the homeowners.
THE KITCHEN: Well-stocked with more than your typical Airbnb. You'll find a crock pot, blender, a hand mixer, roasting pans, various baking dishes, a full range of kitchen utensils, and more; we love to cook there ourselves! We provide coffee, tea, and some snacks for all of our guests as well.
Log onto your streaming service on our TV to enjoy a movie by the fire.
DOWNSTAIRS: Just past the living room and kitchen, you'll find a queen bedroom across the hall from the bunkroom. The bunkroom includes a twin-over-full bunkbed plus a separate twin; it sleeps four. These two rooms share the full bathroom downstairs.
UPSTAIRS: You'll discover a loft with books and games for children and adults, plus a cozy chair for reading. Pass a full bathroom on your way to the very large master bedroom, with windows looking out over dense forest and rhododendron bushes.
We have a well-lit workspace including a handmade desk near a window overlooking the forest for those who seek a quiet place to work. Fast, reliable internet reaches all corners of the house.
When you take a break from work, you can rest in the lounge chair in the master bedroom with a good book. You'll sleep soundly in this comfortable king-sized bed, as this room and the entire house are silent at night.
THE SURROUNDINGS: Just one hour from Portland, Hummingbird Lodge provides the best of all worlds. On your way to the home, pass through Sandy to pick up any groceries you need. Perhaps stop at one of the Portland-caliber restaurants just five or ten minutes from the house. We love Chicali Cantina, Al Forno Ferruzza Pizza and Koya Kitchen most of all. Then retreat to ultimate privacy at Hummingbird Lodge.
Depending on the time of year you visit, some of Oregon's best hikes are just a few minutes up the road. We love Ramona Falls and Burnt Lake, and dozens of other destinations await. Or you can pile into the car for a 15-20 minute drive to Mt. Hood Ski Bowl and Timberline (which we recommend to the non-skiers all year round.) Fishing, swimming, golf, and rafting are all a short distance away in the warmer months.
Guest Access:
You'll have the entire house and acreage to explore.
The Neighborhood:
Hummingbird Lodge is located on a peaceful gravel road, providing a sense of seclusion while still being conveniently close to the attractions of Rhododendron. The neighborhood is known for its natural beauty and the potential to spot local wildlife like deer and bears. You'll find yourself immersed in a setting that blends tranquility with the convenience of nearby shops and restaurants. Enjoy the peace and quiet of the surroundings while remaining within easy reach of local amenities.
Getting Around:
The land is fairly flat over the 10 acres, but a vehicle with 4x4 or all wheel drive in the winter is always recommended.
Other Things to Note:
WATER
Hummingbird Lodge has mineral-rich well water, which, entirely potable, may have a different taste and smell than treated city water.
SEPTIC
This home is on a septic. Grease, flushable wipes, feminine products, or anything besides the provided toilet paper, are not to be flushed and put in the septic tank. Please dispose of those items in the trash.
HOT TUB
Renters agree to shower with soap and rinse off swimwear prior to entering the hot tub to clean off body oils, soaps, cosmetics, lotions, and other products, which cloudy the tub for our guests. Run shock treatment after every use, please. Instructions are next to sliding glass door. We appreciate the extra effort on your part to keep the hot tub water healthy and clear.
