Roquebrun Roquebrun is in the Hérault department of Occitanie (Languedoc-Roussillon), about 30km inland from Béziers, which has an international airport and train station.
Roquebrun is a charming village with old, winding streets and original stone houses, beautifully situated on the River Orb. It is known for its microclimate and its lush, mature and well-visited Mediterranean garden, which have led to its nickname 'Le Petit Nice'.
At the very top of Roquebrun stands La Tour de Guet, an 11th Century Carolingian watchtower, once a grand lookout castle protecting the village but now a solitary tower with stunning views across the Orb river and valley.
The small weekly market is on the Esplanade, where boules are played and the village fetes are held.
Canoe trips may be booked at the local canoe centre near the village beach, in both directions on the river Orb.
Roquebrun is renowned in the area for its wines, due to the rich soil and microclimate – locals claim the mineral-rich soil enables the grapes to ripen even at night! It has a well-known award-winning Cave Co-operative, as well as other excellent independent wine producers in the village and surroundings.
The “Fete de la Mimosa” (The Mimosa Festival) takes place every year in the village in mid-February, which is a beautiful time to visit and see the bright colours of the trees in bloom, as is the grape harvest in September with the autumn colours, when temperatures still reach 25°.
Local attractions Roquebrun is in the heart of the Orb valley and Regional Park, with good walks in all directions from the village. The gorge to the north leads up to the pretty village of Olargues, and the spa town of Lamalou-les-Bains, and to the south towards the small town of St Chinian, 15 minutes away, which has a very good twice-weekly market. Spain and the Pyrenees are 2 hours drive further south.
The towns of Agde and Sète lie at each end of a salt water lake with its oyster and mussel beds, and long sandy beaches may be found all along the Mediterranean. The nearby city of Béziers is 30 minutes away, and each August holds a bullfighting and flamenco festival.
To the east are Montpellier and Pézenas, and to the west the UNESCO-listed Citadel of Carcassonne and the Cathar country, with its mountain-top fortified castles. The pretty village of Minerve is the first Cather site, just over 40km away.
Getting Here The closest international airports are Béziers Cap d'Agde (40km/45 minutes) and Carcassonne (90km). Other nearby airports are Montpellier (103km), Perpignan (122km) and Nîmes (150km).
Béziers train station is 30km away.

There were no negative surprises here. Everything was as it was described in the VRBO description. From the time we arrived until the time we left, Nigel, our host was readily available to answer every question we had. During our two week stay, the heat in France, as in other parts of Europe was intense but the air conditioning in our rental was consistently cool, both downstairs and upstairs and the pool was wonderful relief from the heat. The village of RoqueBrun is in a beautiful location with a crystal clear river with beach swimming and kayaking. The fresh food from the patisserie and restaurants and cafes was excellent and our grandchildren made a daily habit of going down to the patisserie first thing in the morning to get their fresh pain de chocolat for part of their breakfast. A perfect vacation for everyone. Thank you Nigel.
I honestly can’t fault this property and the holiday we had here. The house is just fantastic, we had plenty of space with four adults and three teenagers, the pool was wonderful and the Village of Roquebrun is beautiful. The hosts honestly went above and beyond for us and really helped us out making our stay so much easier, it was so appreciated!
Such a wonderful place for our family to stay! The house is great- well equipped, perfect for kids and in a gorgeous town with restaurants, and great swimming spots in the river. Particularly recommend La Guinguette for drinks / food / canoeing. One of those where you only wish you had the chance to meet the family who own it!! Thank you for letting us stay!!
A beautiful, well located villa with everything you need to relax and enjoy. Very organised, beautifully clean within walking distance of roquebrun restaurants and the fun of the river orb. Nigel and Alison were brilliant managers and extremely helpful, kind and attentive. Thank you for a fantastic stay.

Thanks so much for the great review. It was lovely meeting you and your family and we look forward to welcoming you again sometime soon.
Beautiful place. Exceeded expectations for our large group. The town of Roquebrun is really beautiful and the river Orb is a real treat to spend time in. The property managers were on hand with any issues and quickly responded to any of our needs. They were wonderful hosts. Can’t think of anything else to say other than thanks for the memories.
We spent 10 days in the fantastic house. Communication was excellent, and we received a warm welcome at check-in. We were given a tour of the house and all the information we needed. The house was well equipped with kitchen utensils. The beds were comfortable, and thankfully, there was AC – a real lifesaver in the heat! The pool was magical! It was fantastic that there were also coolers and chairs available to borrow and take to the river. The village is wonderful! We will definitely recommend this house and village to family and friends.
The location is excellent with the village set in the hillside which is worth a look online. There are a few restaurants small bars, a pattiserie / cafe and a shop all within 5 - 10 minutes.walk.
The setting overlooks the surrounding hills and the river so you can enjoy a beautiful view with breakfast or a wine in the evening.
There is swimming in the river with a small beach area and you can hire canoes and take on the rapids which is a good trip out. The surrounding area has spectacular gorges,or walks into the hills.
The house is characterful with plenty of stonework, large enough and has all that you will need,The swimming pool is big enough for a short swim or kids to play in.
Nigel was very helpful and got back to us whenever we had any questions.

Thanks so much for your great review. It was a real pleasure meeting you and your family and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. All the best Nigel and Alison
I have stayed in many gites and rented properties for the past 15 years and this is hands down the best house I have ever stayed in! I cannot fault it - it really is everything you could possibly want and more. We were a mixed age group of 10, we all found the house absolutely beautiful; exceptionally well laid out and decorated and very comfortable for a large group, with huge rooms, high ceilings and a beautiful, wide terrace overlooking the garden and river banks and leading down to the pool area. It is excellently equipped and the ping pong table was also a huge hit with teens and adults alike. Bedrooms are large and air conditioned, the location is unbeatable and the area is just breathtakingly stunning. The whole house is immaculate and feels like a true home from home, whether you want to relax by the pool or explore the lovely village or the many things to do in the area. Sitting on the terrace and watching the house martin's soar over the gardens in the evenings is lovely and peaceful. Nigel was incredibly responsive and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for him. We have left there feeling truly rejuvenated and are ready to book again for next year - for longer than 1 week this time!

Thanks very much for your wonderful review and it was a pleasure to meet you and your friends. We look forward to welcoming you again soon.
