Enjoyable weekend break

Beautifully situated along the canal. Short drive to Blenheim palace, Oxford or Bicester village for shopping. The cottage is clean and cosy. We had dinner at the jolly boatman on Saturday evening. We were very lucky with the weather.

Relaxing Hideaway

“The Dovecote” by name sets your expectations for a small, intimate getaway. The property is small, but perfect for two people and the patio area is a lovely place to enjoy morning coffee or end-of-day drinks and watch the narrowboats glide along the canal. It is just as advertised and we’ll be back again. I’d suggest changing the two quite rigid kitchen chairs for something a bit more flexible-wicker? But just a perfect place for quiet and tranquility.

Perfect Location for Blenheim Palace

Initial impressions were disappointing, due to how small the accommodation was, and the price charged. The location is fantastic, right at the side of the canal. Quiet, peaceful, and lots of lovely walks with nice pubs on the way. The garden has so much potential, but is overgrown and not landscaped. Again, when paying a premium rate for a property, you shouldn’t have an issue running out of hot water. Not I might add, because of eco friendly issues, as stated, but because of a cheap, mechanical timer set for an economy 7 rate. The unvented cylinder should have been on 24/7, and left to the thermostat to ensure we had unlimited hot water. Very poor, especially when charging over 200 per night. Overall, it served a purpose.

This is a lovely small cottage on the canal. We spent very little time in the cottage as the surrounding area was too beautiful to ignore. We spent time just watching he canal boats or hiking around the local paths. It is also a short train ride into London, so we spent a day sightseeing around London. The cottage was clean and well organized, but small. It was perfect for us, but I wouldn't plan to spend all day sitting inside watching TV or reading. The hosts were fantastic. They provided everything we needed to get checked in and had a good resource for local hiking trails and suggestions on things to do. The cottage is off the beaten path, which we loved, but this takes some planning if you don't have an auto.
