Within the magnificent country grounds of Lanwithan Estate, lies Poundhouse. This charming property is steeped in history, having once housed the pound for cider production alongside the laundry press, an important hub for the manor house. Bright and airy, this ground floor property comprises of an open plan kitchen diner, with an excellent range of equipment. The living space invites relaxation with super-comfy seating. There are two stylish bedrooms, one boasting a kingsize bed, perfect for a refreshing night’s rest after a busy day exploring this incredible place. Bedroom two has twin beds, whilst the bathroom has a bath for that all important leisurely soak with electric shower over. The outside space is sublime, with a vast, enclosed shared garden with views across to the Fowey Valley beyond.

The holiday cottages are tucked away within the extensive grounds of the impressive Georgian manor house dating back to the early 19th century. Mature oak, beech and chestnut shelter the magnificent Magnolia and Rhododendron trees, luscious camellia and dazzling azalea along the shaded crisscross woodland paths. The well-established gardens and borders are full of seasonal colour to feast the eye, while the open grass areas invite to a picnic or a ball game. Take the short walk to picturesque Lostwithiel, an ancient stannary town on the meandering Fowey River. It is the popular Antiques Capital of Cornwall with many quirky gift and craft shops as well as a regular farmers’ market. Refreshments are readily available from several excellent local restaurants, pubs, cafes and take aways.

The riverside park is perfect for a summer stroll, with the river the home of trout, salmon and sea bass. The breath-taking Luxulyan Valley, with visual reminders of mining long gone and the world famous Eden Project are must visits, the latter protecting under its huge biomes, the world’s largest indoor rainforest. The nearest beach is at Par, with a long stretch of golden sand backed by dunes and rugged inlets and caves to explore. Fowey, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, has narrow streets, with boutique shops and fantastic restaurants, whilst St Austell, with historic Charlestown and Carlyon Bay with its far-reaching vistas is a joy to behold.

Unique property, great location

All these properties are amazing period cottages, with modern comforts. I felt as if I was staying in an earlier era, even more so when the autumnal mists wrapped the cottage overnight. Also Lostwithiel is a great location for exploring the South Coast from Falmouth to Plymouth, and also upto Bodmin Moor.
