About this property
South facing cottage for nine with pool and garden
Greengates is a family-owned, eco-minded property good for revitalisation and health. It has internet and being within minutes of the M5, it’s easy to get all across the South West quickly, whether for work or play. It’s wonderful retreating into the quiet green spaces to unwind. The house used to be a farm house so has a large layout, and is good for a gathering or family holiday. You may want to dip in and out of the heated pool, relax in the calm south-
facing garden, enjoy your foodie side with a big family meal, or grab a takeout from town to eat al fresco. There’s something for everyone and an activity heaven for kids! The games room has table tennis, with some snug comfy chairs, “Skatespace” just outside it is a large concrete area for parking, bikes and roller booting, and of course they have the swimming pool with its shallow end for little ones and a deep one for those more ready to take the plunge. Of course supervision of small children is essential and it can be closed off so they can’t access it. It’s fully secluded and with the help of its heater can be irresistible even in the most British of summers.
The lounge has plenty of room for everyone to chat, drink wine, watch telly or play games. The books, puzzles, and board games are good for that. Theres a separate living/dining room with a lovely oak family dining table and views into the garden where woodpeckers come to feed. It has a good collection of children’s books and games.
The kitchen boasts a double oven, double sink, two fridges and a dishwasher. It’s designed with plenty of workspace and spots to hang out and chat. It has a laundry at one end with another sink and washing machine, and a larder at the other. The entrance is through a utility space for coats and boots, with an under counter freezer and recycling space. There is also a convenient outside loo.
Greengates has free WiFi with good quality fibre broadband The house is two thirds of an old farm house and its character has
been carefully preserved. There are exposed beams, and traditional
wallpaper. Ours is a family of artists, so its also been tastefully
modernised. It has been fully insulated and double glazed throughout.
Upstairs the four bedrooms give flexible accommodation, whatever
your family setup. There’s the Kings Room, south facing over the
garden with a kingsize bed. The Red Room with a comfortable double
bed and two bunks plus a window seat for pool watching, a third with
two singles and a small lovely one with built in single bed, perfect for a
young child. Theres two toilets upstairs, one with a bath and a shower.
Guest access
The whole property is solely for the occupants of Greengates. High
walls surrounding the pool and garden provide privacy for your
gathering. Two garages and a studio are where we store our things for
Winter, so not accessible to guests.
Saturday to Saturday bookings are the most convenient for us, but we
are happy to consider other options.
We will provide guests with details about accessing the property once
booking is confirmed.
Other things to note
We provide bath towels, but please bring your own if you would like to
use the pool.
Location and activities:
This property has the best of both worlds. It takes minutes to get onto
the M5, where you can travel fast to beaches, cities or other natural
wonders, anywhere around the South West. But whilst at Greengates,
in the quiet village of Mark you are truly in a rural retreat. A place to
recharge and relax. This place has been used for farming since the
11th century since the Monks created the Rhynes which meant the land
became so rich and ariable.
Beaches
Greengates is within a ten minute drive of the huge sweeping beaches
at Burnham on Sea. Cycle there through the bird reserve and play with
kids at the park on the way. Theres a lovely independent cinema in
Burnham if you want to catch a movie while youre there, plus stores for
thrifting if you want to find some unique memorabilia from your breach Greengates is an old farm cottage that has been converted to give 4 bedrooms sleeping 9. It has a heated outdoor swimming pool, south facing garden and ample off road car parking.
It is on the outskirts of the village of Mark and ideally placed for visiting the Mendips, Cheddar, Wookey Hole, Glastonbury, Bristol and Bath, the Quantocks, Dunster Castle and many National Trust properties.
The supermarkets and town of Burnham on Sea are 3 miles away and Mark village centre has two pubs and a Post Office.
The property is an excellent place for children with many books and toys provided. It has a secure garden and swimming pool. The off road parking space can double as a play area for bikes, roller boots etc. Across this is the room with the full size table tennis table.
The entrance is through a cloak room with space for coats and shoes, the recycling and a freezer. This leads to the big, well equipped kitchen with larder and clothes washing area. The kitchen opens to the living/ dining area which looks out over the garden. Across the hallway is a sitting room, and through a small conservatory is the swimming pool.
Upstairs are the bedrooms. The Master has a king size bed, the second a double and bunks, the third two singles and the little one a built in single.
There are two toilets , one in the bathroom and another separate. A third toilet is by the front door.
