About the host
Hosted by Elaine Williams
I’ve lived in West London for 40 years, first in Notting Hill, and now in South Kensington. As I spend a lot of my time abroad in Italy, I’ve let out my pied-a-terre and been delighted with the pleasure it’s given others to live in and enjoy this beautiful part of London. For those interested in design and the arts, it’s a paradise, with amazing museums, showrooms and shops on the doorstep. The apartment is surrounded by cafés, restaurants, pubs and bars in nearby streets, but is in a quiet enclave. Hyde Park is a short walk away for those who enjoy a break from the city, or turn left and head down to the riverbank in Chelsea. The building is Victorian white stuccoed, classic in style, and the apartment is on the principal - first - floor - with soaring ceilings and the balcony overlooking the street below, where you can enjoy morning coffee, evening drinks, or even dine.
Why they chose this property
As an interior designer, West London is the hub, and the apartment is close to the Chelsea Harbour Design Centre, a myriad of shops and showrooms, Chelsea Hospital with its annual flower and antique fairs. There are so many different bars and restaurants, you can dine the world on your doorstep, and the museums are world class, in arts - the V&A - science and natural history. It’s also only a short hop to Soho, Westminster, Notting Hill, or central London, so it’s a great location for sight seeing.
What makes this property unique
I’d like to think 2 things make the apartment stand out. First is the reason I bought it - it’s the classic dream London apartment - in a porticoed stuccoed building, and on the first floor, with the high ceilings, the balcony, and the floor to ceiling French doors onto the terrace. The second thing is that I hope it’s benefitted from being owned by an interior designer, who has sought to make it chic and glamorous whilst also retaining the original features.
