PLEASE NOTE: This rental is half of a duplex with a permanent resident in the other side. The rental has it's own private entrance, deck, fire ring and picnic table. We have compensated for the possible disadvantage of this set up by making our rates lower than others in our area. We have had many, many satisfied guests over the past 14 years but if this set up won't meet your needs please look elsewhere.

Bed and kitchen linens are also included. Bath linens are NOT provided.

Misty Pines cabin rental has been sharing our beautiful surroundings with guests since 2008. Visitors never seem to grow tired of the changing mountain scene before them. Whether it's dancing plumes of morning mist, colorful fall foliage, serene sunsets, or foraging wildlife, the view always creates a sense of peace.

Located in Sterling Run, Cameron County, we are in the heart of the PA Wilds and magnificent elk country. If you are looking for a place to connect with nature and outdoor adventure while still enjoying the comforts of home, Misty Pines is for you! Our local state forests, gamelands, trout waters, lakes and state parks offer plenty of room to roam in Pennsylvania's natural beauty.

Our busiest season is in the fall during the elk rut (mating season). The haunting bugling of the bulls and the rattle of clashing antlers are an exhilarating experience. During this busy season, throngs of visitors flood PA's "elk capital", the nearby town of Benezette, creating crowds ranging from pleasant hustle and bustle to literal gridlock. Our location, 40 minutes away, offers guests a peaceful respite after a day of sightseeing with other tourists. Not to mention that there is a very real possibility of seeing elk anywhere along the scenic ride from Misty Pines to Benezette. Highway or dirt road, it's up to you!

We are Mark and Evelyn Keiter and we live in the home up the road, the only other house visible from the cabin. We look forward to meeting new guests, with some regular visitors becoming friends. But, we know people come here to get away and would never disturb a guests' privacy unnecessarily. Most find it reassuring to know that we are nearby to help with questions about the area, or that one item that was left at home or even assistance with car trouble. We enjoy being able to provide a comfy stay for people as they share in the wonderful place that we call home. We hope to see you soon!

About the host

Hosted by Evelyn & Mark Keiter

Host profile image
We, Mark & Evelyn Keiter, were originally from southeastern PA. Looking for a change in lifestyle and to escape the ever encroaching rat race we decided to pull up stakes and move with our young daughter to the mountains. We were looking for a place where we could be surrounded by nature, to be part of it and enjoy it everyday. Leaving a good job, selling our home and a business to move to the remote wilds of PA took a brave leap of faith. Over a decade later we have no regrets about our decision and the rewards have been too numerous to mention. When Mark isn't out mowing he works for a local construction and remodeling contractor and Evelyn keeps busy taking care of the cabin and working in the garden. Whenever we get the chance we head out to enjoy the natural world in our "backyard" with some hiking, kayaking, fishing & hunting.

Why they chose this property

In truth, it was the elk that drew us to this area and this property. Finding a place that was wild enough to be home to free roaming elk while still being suitable to raise our daughter was our goal. When we first saw what is now our home we knew we had found what we were looking for. A few years later, when the house that is now Misty Pines became available it was a perfect addition to our property. After nine months of extensive remodeling the transformation into Misty Pines was complete. Combined, we sit on 40 private acres, About 10 of which are cleared with the remaining 30 in native forest. Surrounded by natural habitat, the creatures of the woods are our neighbors. Providing a comfortable place for visitors to stay while they enjoy this wonderful area has been Misty Pines' purpose ever since.

What makes this property unique

Situated on a westward facing hillside our view of the surrounding mountains is inspiring. Seated on the deck or by the campfire you'll have a perfect view of the setting sun or the starry night sky.
