Cynnewille is located in the Frisian countryside, surrounded by nature, and is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the sweeping views of the farmlands.
We moved to this location in 2011. At that time, both the farmhouse and the detached building next door were in a state of disrepair. We converted the adjacent building into a temporary home. We lived there happily for five years while the farmhouse was being rebuilt. Thanks to the unique rural location, the peace and quiet, the surroundings, and the views, we haven’t gone on holiday anywhere else since then. Every day here feels like a holiday, even after a hard day’s work. We’ve now been living in the farmhouse for several years and would love to share this sense of peace and freedom with you. For that reason, we’ve completely renovated the adjacent building into a holiday home where we hope you’ll be able to enjoy the same experiences we have.
Cynnewille is located in the north of the Netherlands in the village of Ie, home to the Flax Museum. This is the only museum in the Netherlands where you can see the process of turning flax into linen. While you’re in Ie, be sure to take a stroll through the picturesque village, which has a protected village landscape (and a playground). Near the historic buildings, you’ll find signs from the Waddentour with information about their history. The Flaakspaad on the outskirts of the village is also worth a visit for a pleasant stroll. Finally, you can relax on one of the benches at Flaaksplein.
Lauwersmeer National Park is located near Ie. In earlier times, fresh and saltwater mingled in the Lauwerszee. Fear of flooding led to the construction of a dam in 1969. A beautiful new landscape emerged on the former seabed—a true bird paradise. The natural environment in Lauwersmeer is so unique that the area has been designated a National Park. Lauwersmeer National Park offers wonderful opportunities for hiking and biking. After the dam was built, the village of Lauwersoog was established. From here, you can take a boat to the island of Schiermonnikoog, one of the wildest, most unspoiled places in the Netherlands, shaped by ocean currents, wind, and shifting sand dunes.
The historic city of Dokkum, with its fortifications, the Admiralty, the canals lined with beautiful buildings, the Bonifatius Chapel, and the IJsfontein, is located 11 km away. Dokkum is known for the lively atmosphere of its shopping streets, outdoor cafes, and breweries.
The Wadden Sea is 10 km away. The Wadden Sea is an UNESCO World Heritage Site, a Natura 2000 area, and was voted the most beautiful nature reserve in the Netherlands by the Dutch public.
The village of Eanjum, one of the oldest villages in Friesland, is 5 km away. The village was founded around the year 1000 and is home to, among other things, a supermarket.
