Added bonuses are the semi-private boat launch on an adjacent cove, a large fire pit with wood, a tree swing, a screened dock house with eating and conversation areas, and a fish-cleaning station on a fishing dock. Crappie House is perfect for serious fishermen, families, and couples looking for a quiet, fairly secluded get-away. Nearby there is a small market and grill that sells fishing supplies, licenses and gasoline. (Louisiana and Texas licenses are accepted on all of Toledo Bend). The town of Hemphill, Texas is a 20-minute car ride away, and has a grocery store, restaurants, ATMs and various shops. Likewise, there are the same offerings across the Pendleton Bridge in Louisiana, about 25 minutes away. Due to HOA rules, boats must be trailered when not in use and no fireworks are permitted.

Cozy cabin! Loved reading about the history too. Ialso liked how everything was labeled, made it very easy to find things! The kids had endless amounts of space to play on the beautiful grounds. We had a great trip and I would definitely recommend to others!
My fiancé and I along with another couple stayed for about a week to celebrate our engagement and my graduation from nursing school! The cabin was so peaceful with a cozy welcoming atmosphere. The owners were very friendly and helpful and had the cabin stocked with all the things needed for our stay!
Bryan was a great host! Made sure we had what we needed. This is a great location! Right on the water. Private yard and dock. We were celebrating my husband's 60th birthday. We really enjoyed just spending time together in this great place!
The property and grounds are absolutely amazing! The cabin has kept its original charm (the record player is a nice touch) and had everything we needed. We don’t have our own boat but having direct ramp access was excellent and our fishing guide was able to just pick us up from there. The screened in pier is a nice bonus, we spent the nights fishing from it. Owner is quick to reply and very accommodating. Will definitely be back, wish we could have stayed longer. If you are looking for a fishing guide, Micheal Shanley at Living the Dream Guide Services was fantastic. We caught 73 crappie and threw back lots of catfish within 5 hours.
Really enjoyed our stay at the Chicken Coop! It came with a very well stocked kitchen, comfortable furnishings, and the sunrises were breathtaking! All the amenities of home! The only downside, one bed too soft, one too hard! Had a great time but sadly, the fish didn’t cooperate! Thanks for everything!Judy
The cabin was stocked with everything (and then some) that you’d need to make your stay comfortable. The layout of the cabin was perfect and you get the most magnificent views from the front porch area and on the dock. I travel often as a solo female so safety is a big factor for me. I felt safe and it wasn’t too secluded. I barely saw any neighbors so I had privacy but knew they were there if need be. I went to get ice from the store and on my way back in I saw several deer crossing the road. It was so peaceful watching them. The water views are AMAZING!! I spent most of my time on the dock soaking up the sun, wind and the views. Toledo Bend is my happy place and I do an annual visit every year. I will definitely be booking this cabin again. Mr. Bryan (owner) responded in a prompt manner at all times. If you are looking for peace, tranquility, quiet, nature and amazing water views I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this rental.
We traveled and stayed several places within the states…this cabin and the beautiful property surrounding it was one of the nicest and most relaxing we have experienced. It was what I needed after battling cancer, having multiple knee surgeries, just to get away and take a mental break refresher. My husband loved the fishing and cannot wait to go back again soon. Thank you to the owners and to VRBO making everything perfect.
Everything at the property was absolutely perfect! The beauty of the property against the backdrop of the lake, the cleanliness of the home, all the room in the camp, the beautiful deck outside facing the water, the handy boat launch right next to the property, everything just as they advertised on the website! And all that you needed in the kitchen, bedrooms, & bathrooms that saved me from bringing extras just in case! I wish we would have found this property long ago! It was well worth the money and the owners were very kind & considerate of my situation! Couldn’t have asked for anything better!
Great, place to stay! Everything was exactly as advertised and Bryan and Jamie left lots of information to make the best out of our time on Toledo Bend. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
Such a quaint and cozy cabin with a beautiful view of the lake! Very well stocked with lots of extras! My 20 year old daughter loved the record player- she had never seen one! Such a special touch!
Perfect location and a very enjoyable experience all around.

Hello. We want to introduce ourselves and tell you about this place. We are Bryan and Jamie, We have been married 33 years and have always dreamed of a beautiful lake front home, which we have found in the Crappie House. We bought this lovely location from Carol and Tom Dec 2024, who were sad to leave, but we reassured them we would love this place like they did.
This is a historic property, one of the first built at Toledo Bend Reservoir. The retaining wall was built in 1968. The property was owned by the Gibson’s Discount Center, who were the first store similar to Walmart, before they took over the US, hence Gibson Point. Here is a link to the Gibson story if you are interested. https://gsriley.com/2018/10/09/the-story-of-gibsons/ Bryan, my husband has been fishing on Toledo Bend for 45 years with his family. This lake is teaming with great fish and abundant wildlife. It’s a great lake to fish, get awesome pictures, and relax. We are happy to share this place with you and hope you find it as wonderful as we do.

Why they chose this property
Crappie House offers a unique opportunity to stay in a mid-century modern cabin and to live the good life as you lounge on the balcony or dine over the water in the screened dock house. And of course, there is the world-class fishing, not to mention the large outdoor area, perfect for creating memories with your family or friends and taking family pictures.
What makes this property unique
Few properties offer the acreage, accessibility to the lake, and the amenities that Crappie House has to offer, including a semi-private boat launch, fire pit and screened dock house with sitting and dining areas. Located just north of the Pendleton Bridge, Crappie House is situated at nearly the midpoint of the lake, allowing access to both the north and south ends, close to the Louisiana border. Guests may fish off the dock house balcony or along the seawall (be aware of large boulders along the sea wall and of the slippery seawall). For swimming, there is a smooth sandbar in the cove perfect for floating and kids' swimming -- go out from the launch to the white pole. It is usually 2-4 feet deep.
