This was the most fairytale experience I have ever had with my Sister and Grandma. We created the best memories together. Thank you for allowing us to book in a days notice making this one of the most spontaneous experiences we have ever had. Yes the drive up and down that road that leads to the home is steep but my Honda Civic handled it like a champ! We will most definitely be coming back to this little fairytale In the woods With love from Michigan

Thank you for staying at our property, and providing a review. Unfortunately, it looks like you thought our house with the high elevation long range views was right on the lake. While the house does overlook the lake, it is about 1/4 mile to the community boat dock/lake access.

Great stay

Really enjoyed our stay. The home was very clean and welcoming. We had ages ranging from 1 year to 65 and it was wonderful. Beautiful veiw. The only downside was the stairs to the dock are very steep with carring kids, floats or for older family members. But Overall we enjoyed our time and would stay again.

Wonderful Peaceful 4th of July

Every year we bring my 82 year old Mother n law to the mountains but in 2020 in the midst of a pandemic, my family was very excited about a vacation away from the crazy world around us. Spending a week at Still Waters was the perfect place to be. The view is spectacular and the house was well equipped to not have to go anywhere. Thanks for allowing us to spend time at this wonderful home! Harold

2nd Stay at Still Waters

This was our 2nd stay at this beautiful home. The views are amazing and the house has plenty of room for a large family or a couple families. We have pre-teens/teenagers and they love the game room - there's always lots of pool and ping-pong games when we aren't boating on the lake. The drive up to the house is a little steep and narrow, but fortunately we've never encountered another vehicle while going up/down.

Beautiful property with great view

Absolutely loved everything about our stay. The pictures don’t do it justice for how beautiful the cabin and the lake is. The amenities provided (pool table, ping pong table , jacuzzi, and a long list of other things) made the stay even better. I Highly recommend for any occasion . The hill is a steep drive up and a workout of a walk but only 1/4 mile, it’s fast and you get used to it. Not many stores around but that’s what makes it such a great getaway, but there are other cabins close by and a (very fun) shared lake dock. The lake is stunning and so is the view. Only suggestion is a king sized bed. 5 stars all around for a perfect vacation.

I had an excellent time with my family, the views were beautiful, we only had a problem with one of the rented cars that broke down and the rental car company took several days to pick it up, accidents happen but the property owner doesn't understand that and since I was there for several days because of the company, they charged me an unnecessary charge, and that is a mistreatment of the client

It was an unfortunate situation that the guest had a vehicle break down at our property. I explained that I was not expecting any guests to the house for the next couple days, and it was no issue leaving the vehicle at the property for 2-3 days. However, the vehicle was left abandoned at my property for approximately 2 weeks, negatively impacting future guests staying at the property. Needless to say, broken down abandoned vehicles at the property do not leave a good impression with newly arriving guests. I thoroughly explained to Jose additional charges would be incurred due to the inconvenience to my guests and my management of the property by having to work around the abandoned vehicle. I tried contacting the rental company multiple times to have them retrieve their vehicle. The rental car company would not work with me since I had not rented the vehicle. I also contacted multiple towing companies before I found one that finally agreed to tow the abandoned vehicle. The rental car company did send a mechanic after the first full week, but when they could not start the vehicle they also left the vehicle behind and told me “good luck” as they do not expect any responsible party to claim the vehicle. Unfortunately, in this case I had no choice but to charge our guest for abandoning a vehicle at our property for an excessive period of time beyond the agreed 2-3 days.

Beautiful house and view! If you prefer being right on the water this is not the house but the view and house itself are great! Terrific decks with lots of chairs, fire ring and hot tub with a view. Mattresses could stand updating. No cell signal at all but good WIFI. Very few stores, restaurants on this side of the lake so plan to drive or bring food in and cook. A bit inconvenient for kayaking and swimming. Overall very comfortable and well equipped

Tranquil

From start to finish the process went perfect. Received a lot of useful information from owner before trip. Property was beyond our expectations and very accommodating to all of our needs. Spent the last day listening to the birds and bees and looking at water and mountains. Can’t wait to come back. The only helpful info I can pass onto to future summer vacationers is to be aware of the room temperature changes on all floors. The bottom floor is extremely cold but is well stocked with blankets for comfort. Didn’t need coffee to wake up after a trip to the bathroom!

Thank you for providing a review/feedback. The house has 2 above ground levels and a walk out lower level/basement. The second level and the basement level temperatures are typically different from each other throughout the year. The basement bedroom and game room will tend to be cooler than the bedrooms on the second floor throughout the year.

Still Water Trip

The lake, view and peace and quiet were great. Property was somewhat run down and musty, but generally big and nice look. Just disappointing for the price. Access to the dock was a bit confusing. Recommend bringing in everything you want to have there as far as groceries, and equipment because there is nothing close to pick up any forgotten items. There is a ping pong table and pool table which the kids enjoyed also. The lake was very nice, and peaceful. The owner was helpful with our questions when we got there, and open to explain the ins and outs. Overall we enjoyed it, just not thrilled about the overall experience for the price.

Great place for improvement

Great view but the property was not maintained, weeds and grass waist high overgrowing the pathway, trash can security inoperable and litter all over as we arrived. The dock advertised and depicted is no longer present, the downstairs set up was musty smelling and has no heat source other than it is tied into the main floor and whole houses solitary zone for 3 levels. Therefore any adjustment satisfies the main level thermostat only. The space was beautiful but it felt less than homey outside of the living room, things piece-mealed and thrown together to suit the bare minimum, especially the kitchen cookware and utensils. A lot of dead bugs littered on window sills, flooring and in the kitchen. The hot tub was filthy with debris. Many broken chairs discovered the hard way.Great grill, awesome view, cozy living room but desperately needs owner attention and accountability restored in the housekeeping & landscaping crew. Perhaps developing a way to heat/cool the segregate space effectively as well would make things more comfortable and tolerable for that matter. Additionally, some updated pics to accurately depict the quarters as well as amenities and their updated availability to the listing would be great.

It’s unfortunate that you did not find our log home to your satisfaction and appreciate all that it has to offer. First, if you experienced any issue, found something unsatisfactory, or did not know how to operate something you could have contacted me directly or through the app, and we could have addressed most any issue that may have come up. We are very responsive to things that may come up. We have a variety of companies contracted to service our property which includes: the trash, cut the grass, clean our home between guests, regular bugs/pests treatment, clean the hot tub between each guest, inspect the property after each guest, and a general contractor to address any type of maintenance issue that may come up. We have bear resistant and critter proof trash cans, it is not meant to be human proof or for security. There are instructions on the trash cans, available online, or you could contact me directly. There has been an increase in bear activity this spring and into the early summer. I happened to be at the property the week prior to your arrival, and ensured there was no litter on my property. We cannot control what may happen at the homes nearby if bears or critter get into their trash and their clean up response. arrived. Our boat dock and nearly everyone nearby had their boat docks destroyed by the unexpected hurricane weather that hit NC and TN last September. Our new boat dock was scheduled to be installed and operational by May 1st. Unfortunately the work fell behind schedule. Several weeks prior to your arrival I sent a message explaining the situation with the boat dock and I could not ensure the work would be completed prior to your arrival. The response received was something like “thanks for the information/update. The week prior to your arrival and in weeks following there is no musty smell as described. If you operate the AC, then there is no heat source in the basement. If you operate the gas fireplace on the main level that, we ask everyone not to use after May 1st, then no heat will turn on to heat the basement. If you operate the A/C and the fireplace at the same time, the the basement is likely to get very chilly. Many gas fireplaces provide very little heat and all about ambience. The unit we have at our house is intended as a true back up heat source for winter months, and will effectively heat the 1st and second level of the home on the coldest winter days. Operating it in May can make the house very warm on the first and second floors. Yes, like many homes we have one thermostat on the main level. I am not sure what this means: “The space was piece-mealed and thrown together to suit the bare minimum? The kitchen is equipped with most anything you may need. We do suggest if you have specific needs or specific items desired then you may want to bring those items with you. We do have regular exterminator visits which could lead to a random dead bugs found inside the house. Having just been at the house and the cleaning company cleaning the property just before your arrival, I’m not sure how many bugs can be collected in such a short period of time, and the home is a log home in the middle of the forest on the mountain side. The hot tub was clean and in great working condition just days before your arrival, and I also had our hot tub service clean it prior to your arrival, and after your departure. No such condition was reported to me by our service tech or by you the guest. I could have sent somebody out to check on it if you were unhappy with it had you contacted me. How many chairs became unusable during your stay? Again we were not contacted about this issue, and we did not find any damaged or broken furniture at the house following your stay. Yes the grill is very new, which is a great example of how we work to replace old worn items when needed, with quality replacement items in addition to our care and maintenance of our property, home, and amenities. Our housekeeping crew and hot tub service provider are regularly complimented by other guests in how great their work is and how clean the house and hot tub are. Not sure what could have gone wrong here. The heat and A/C unit is oversized for our space, and works extremely well, not sure what could have changed during your stay? Not sure what what this means “updated availability to the listing would be great” Again I think many of the issues and concerns expressed here could have been addressed with better communication.

Great Getaway

We spent a memorable thanksgiving overlooking the beautiful views that Stillwater’s had to offer. We were a group of 10 (adults and kids). The owner was great in communicating with us and gave us some really good suggestions for activities to do near and around. Our kids had a great time and loved being able to have their dog with them. The cabin was as described. It’s nestled in the woods and cell service is limited but WIFI was available. If you don’t have any experience driving in the mountains you may feel timid at first but will get the hang of it quick. There are a lot of reviews about the ladybugs and yes they were present but it’s a cabin surrounded by nature! They really aren’t an issue and it’s understanding why they are there. There are plenty of sites to see, activities to do and restaurants and markets about 15 miles away. Of course driving through the mountains takes some time so about a 35/40 minute car drive away. But you have some really wonderful views to enjoy along the drive. The drive alone to any location was an experience in itself for the adults and the kids. We went horseback riding in North Carolina and ATV riding in the mountains of Tennessee. All about the same distance from the cabin. Clear views of the stars at night. Peaceful and very relaxing. Thank you for sharing your property with us. We had a great experience.

Beautiful home but "luxury experience" is a stretch

8/2024: We booked this home because of the beautiful online presence. Initial communication with the host was great. There's NO CELL service and no phone in the home. If you have an emergency, you will need to drive 30-40 minutes to the marina to make a call. The view in the front yard that is shown in the pics no longer exists. If you're on the upper deck, you can see the water, but the property is really overgrown. There's trash and litter (beer cans, etc) near the firepit and lower patio. There are cameras on the deck/porch/patio. That was pretty weird. There are 3 kayaks, but you need to get them down to the dock. You can't leave your car at the dock, so you unload, drive your car back up the crazy hill to the house, walk back down to the dock. You then will need someone to walk up the crazy hill to get the car. The home is really close to another home at the top of the hill, you can't see it in the photos. The pool table and tennis table were great for the teens. The 2nd floor BRs (w/bunks) were very hot, despite the ac temp downstairs. No air flow upstairs at all. There was a "water hammer" problem in the pipes that we dealt with every day/night we were there. If you don't know what "water hammer" is, google it and you will see why couldn't live with the noise. We vacated the property, ended our yearly family vacation early, and got barely enough of a refund for the trouble. Nothing "luxury" about our experience. Hope it gets resolved before someone books.

Response from VrboOwner on 21 Sept, 2024
The guest checked in on Saturday evening, and the house was rented the week prior without any reported issues. Between midnight and 430 am the guest messaged me at least 3 times complaining of noises. Initially reported as a loud car engine revving noise, second noise was described as a loud grinding sound, and the third noise reported was described as a loud banging sound similar to a jackhammer. I responded to each message throughout the night in a timely manner, and asked follow up questions to try and sort out the described noises that were reported to be happening every hour and lasting up to 1 minute each time. None of my questions asked to the guest to help me diagnose any mechanical problems were provided any response by the guest. The very next day, on a Sunday, I had a maintenance technician at the house to diagnose and try to resolve the reported issue. The technician checked all the mechanical systems at the house, and did not find any issues or anything making any abnormal noises. While attempting to diagnose the reported sounds the technician was at the house over 2 hours and the noise was never heard, which does not help to diagnose the issue. No noises were reported again until Monday evening and Tuesday evenings. Each time I had a maintenance technician respond to the house to try to hear the sound and diagnose the issue. Again, no sound previously reported was heard despite being at the house upwards of 2 hours each time. At this point my maintenance technicians and I agreed that the only thing we could think of that may be causing a banging sound would be in the home plumbing/pipes system. The maintenance techs drained and recharged the entire house water system several times, but ultimately this did not solve the issue. We then reached out to a plumber to have them evaluate, diagnose, and hopefully resolve the unverified issue described by the guest. I could not locate a plumber to travel to the house’s somewhat remote location until Thursday or Friday. Once I knew that it was likely that I may not be able to resolve the issue until Friday or possibly after the end of the guest’s stay on Sunday, I immediately reached out to the guest on Wednesday morning. I explained the situation to the guest, and was very upfront that I may not be able to resolve the issue until Friday or possibly not during their stay. Since nobody was able to verify the noises, I had no reference of how unmanageable the situation was for the guest as it related to being a distraction and continuing their stay. I asked the guest if they wanted to stay, and also understood if the preferred to depart the property early. Wednesday afternoon the guest notified me that they decided to depart early, and departed the property around 8pm that evening. In the following days I had a plumber come out to the house and they tried to replicate the noises described in the pipes/plumbing and were not successful in recreating the condition or noises described despite being at the house several hours each time. About a week later I was able to stay at the property. In the third day of my stay, there was a minor banging noise coming from the pipe stack inside the wall near a bathroom. The noise lasted about 10 seconds in total. Across a 6 day period I heard the minor banging sound 3 times, each occurrence was about 5-10 seconds. Experiencing a sound first hand finally helped us diagnose the issue, and take appropriate steps to resolve this minor issue. Regarding other reported issues: No cell service? There is cell service in the area, but how well your phone works depends on your provider’s coverage area. Some work better than others. AT&T doesn’t seem to work well. If you connect a modern mobile phone to the house internet it should function perfectly, and there is no need to leave the property to make a call. Given Internet supported use of cell phones, we no longer maintain a hard like home phone at the property. The guest’s phone seemed to work fine between midnight and 430 am when they were complaining about noises. The view? The view in the photos is still exactly the same view you can expect to see at the property. I even added a new photo of the view at the property during my most recent visit. The property below the house is steeply sloped mountain side property. The undergrown and regrowth of trees takes 10 years to regrow and start to impact the view. We are in year 8, and we have a tree contractor scheduled to clear the view area of tree and underbrush regrowth. I did find and pick up one can and one wrapper around the property when I was there. You can leave your car parked along the roadside pull off area near the dock, but you cannot use or park in the nearby homes driveways near the dock. We do have kayaks available for guests to use that are secured on a rack at the house. The dock is not secure and we have recently had our property left unattended at the dock disappear in the last year. We have lost a canoe and 2 kayaks, so we can’t leave the new kayaks at the dock anymore which is truly unfortunate. Our house is on a mountain side access road in a neighborhood where each house has 2-5 acres of property….yes there are other homes on the same road. Varying temperatures by level. The house does not have multiple temperature zoning for the hvac system. The rules of thermodynamics will apply. The walkout basement level will be cooler throughout the year. The upstairs level will typically be warmer throughout the year. The thermostat is located on the main level. We do recommend during the summer months to turn on the ceiling fans and other fans upstairs to get the air moving and to cool more evenly. If you do follow the fan recommendations it does make the upstairs comfortable. Cameras. We do have security cameras on the exterior of the property to help with potential security concerns. This is clearly described in the listing, even describing the purpose and view of each camera. It was great to hear that the pool table and ping pong table was a positive comment.

The views were amazing. Access to the dock was a little difficult with our elderly mom, but the renters of the property next to the dock, were so kind and allowed us to pull into their driveway and “unload” her. The house accommodated our family so well. A little warm upstairs in the bedrooms. Plenty of fans available, which made it comfortable. Would definitely come back!
