We have stayed here many times and have again enjoyed another great stay

We have stayed here many times and have again enjoyed another great stay and have rebooked for November 2026. The appeal of the apartment is its location but also the way it is furnished.

Perfect location

We stayed at the music house during the summer holidays, and it was a perfect location to explore York. The view of the minster is spectacular, and it was lovely to hear the bells. The beds were comfortable, and the whole place was well equipped.

Impeccable view of the Minster

The location of this property is top notch. You can sit on the couch and see the most spectacular view of York Minster. The location also makes it an easy walk to any town sites and shopping. I would note that the amount of stairs to get to the flat and inside the flat are many and may be too much for some. The bathroom is very large and the hot water on demand worked perfectly. The bathroom is on the same floor as the living and kitchen areas. This is lovely during the day, but daunting in the middle of the night when having to traverse the stairs to use the facilities. The kitchen is very small but has all the amenities needed including a large refrigerator. We absolutely knew there was no AC in the flat and thankfully the nights were cool. There were fans in the bedrooms but we had to haul one to the living room during the day to help cool that room. Because we needed to leave the windows open there were enough flies that we ended up getting some fly paper to help control them. I’m sure there are regulations on having window screens, so I’m unsure what solution would help. Our only real issue was roof construction that went on during our stay that we were unaware would be happening. However our host did communicate with us about the situation and offered some compensation. Check in and check out instructions were easy and well communicated. We love York!

Cosy, if slightly faded, historic building in the heart of the city

We've been staying in the Music House for decades, summer and winter. It always feels so familiar, and is so convenient for our needs, hat we're happy to overlook it's quirks. Be prepared for stairs but once you're up there the view of the Minster and the life around it is wonderful. Not so much the bells on Sunday morning if you're having a lie in but they add to the atmosphere and historical feeling of the house. It's an old property, showing signs of age but it's clean, comfortable and everything works. The kitchen is rather small but fine for preparing meals. The beds and linen are very comfy. It can get noisy in the summer and the pub down the street has live music until quite late which can get annoying. There's a wine bar downstairs but never hear noise from it.
