About this property

Garden Lodge by the Sea · Private Courtyard · 2 Ensuite Bedrooms

Set within an award-winning Victorian garden, this 2-bedroom lodge offers a calm, private stay just minutes from the sea. Both bedrooms have their own ensuite (one shower, one bath), making it ideal for couples or friends travelling together.

Step outside to your own courtyard, or wander through beautifully maintained gardens, woodland paths and coastal walks right from your door. Peaceful and tucked away, with WiFi when you need it, this is a place to slow down and switch off.

Ventnor is a 10-minute drive for shops, pubs, and coastal strolls — but a car is recommended due to the remote setting. You might spot red squirrels, foxes, or hear the rustle of wildlife in the trees — it’s a true escape to nature.

There is a gate with a lockbox for access to the garden area and to the Garden Lodge inside.

This peaceful two-bedroom lodge is part of the Haddon Lake House estate — a unique setting surrounded by nature, once home to an ornamental lake and still full of beauty and charm.

Set within a vibrant Victorian garden and small woodland, the lodge offers a true escape. With birdsong in the background and the sea just a short walk away, it’s the perfect base for recharging, reading, wandering, and enjoying slow, quiet mornings.

Inside, the lodge has a traditional feel — simple, cosy, and filled with natural light. There are two double bedrooms, each with its own private ensuite (one with a bath, one with a shower), a well-equipped kitchen-diner, and a lounge with WiFi and a smart TV for film nights.

There’s no mobile signal here — and that’s half the appeal. You can truly switch off and enjoy the surroundings, or stay connected via WiFi if needed.

Whether you’re looking for a creative retreat, a romantic hideaway, or just a break from the world, this is the kind of place where time slows down and peace takes over.

You can get the car ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne. This is a remote area on the South side of the island, so your own transport is necessary. Alternatively you could try cycling, but be mindful that the island is very hilly!

The property is part of Haddon Lake House, named after the ornamental lake that once sat in the gardens. Following a recent landslide, the lake is no longer present — but restoration is underway and the grounds remain as peaceful and beautiful as ever.

There is no mobile phone signal at the lodge — the perfect excuse to unplug. We do have WiFi, so you can stay connected if needed.

The lodge is tucked away in a peaceful, rural spot, surrounded by woodland and gardens. It's all about stillness, fresh air, and slow mornings.

Ventnor is a 10-minute drive for shops, pubs, and coastal strolls — but a car is recommended due to the remote setting.

Free parking is available right outside the lodge.

This is an amazingly attractive place to stay. The back of the Garden Lodge has its own terraced garden area with a stream and garden views that beat the Ventnor Botanical Gardens nearby. The route to the Garden Lodge is through a beautiful, flourishing walled Victorian garden. It is very peaceful and relaxing.

Lovely stay in this properly located inside Victorian walled gardens. Really isolated, so no mobile signal (make sure you screengrab the keysafe code before you drive down!). Highly recommend the short walk down to Binnel Bay and across the coastal path.

Nicely converted outbuilding in a beautiful setting within walled gardens. Sadly, there are no windows that offer a view onto the gardens. A little bit tricky to locate initially, but worth the slight inconvenience to stay in a quiet, remote dwelling. We encountered a few issues with spiders in almost every room, but Dan responded very swiftly by despatching a cleaner to resolve this. In fact, all queries raised with Dan were dealt with expeditiously. All in all, a very pleasant stay in a relaxing setting.

Great spot. Quiet. Very roomy apartment. Responsive management. Close to some unique pubs, great walks, historic churches, and our favorite Island spot: Dimbola House cafe (great food) and museum. We hope to return soon!

This property, Midori Lodge is all about its secluded location within the most beautiful garden setting you could ever imagine. It’s simply magical from the moment you enter via a private gate into the restored walled garden. We stayed for 4 nights and had sunny days to make the most of the glorious floral display, a true ‘Jewel’ Garden. My husband had difficulty getting me to leave it for various outings along the coastal path. But out we went picking up the costal path which you can access from behind Binnel Studios. Very scenic walk down to Binnel Bay Beach and via the steps down you can walk eastwards towards Ventnor. We made it as far as Woody Bay before returning along Old Park Road to the Lodge for lunch. Met the owner harvesting the fruit and veg grown alongside the flowers. Very kindly supplied us with fresh tomatoes & potatoes. He also offered us a viewing of the garden terraces adjoining the main house and told us a little bit more about the history of the property. The Lodge itself is spacious with everything supplied you might need during your stay. There’s a private courtyard garden at the rear end with patio table & chairs for 3 people and two sunbeds available if you fancy an afternoon snooze on the upper terrace. One bedroom is very large with corner bath en suite and filled with light from velux windows overhead and the other smaller in size but adjoins a newly fitted tiled shower room. Kitchen well equipped. We were very comfortable during our stay.
