About this property
Key Moss - Country House with Large Garden
Key Moss is a magnificent detached dog-friendly Georgian farmhouse set in the blissfully peaceful and lush countryside of south Lakeland. Sleeping up to 9 in five characterful and comfortable bedrooms, Key Moss is blessed with extensive gardens, wonderful views and plenty of socialising space, so all can relax in their own space. The property retains its original Georgian farmhouse character as the owners have taken great care to restore features in keeping with the styles of the Georgian era, including the colour palettes of that period. Wonderful features such as the Everhot electric range (similar to an Aga), the large combined farmhouse style kitchen and dining area, logburning stoves, underfloor heating, and high-quality bathroom facilities, mean you can enjoy this period property in absolute comfort. Key Moss is ideal for families or groups looking to enjoy a countryside break on the doorstep of all the unique attractions of the Lake District.
The ground floor is exceptionally spacious with two lounge areas, a snug, kitchen/dining area, boot and utility room (an ideal retreat for dogs), and handy WC. Three logburners provide a wonderfully inviting and cosy feel (starter supplies of wood provided) and the beautiful decor makes you feel you have come to somewhere pretty special. Any combination of family or all adult groups can easily find space to be together sociably, or break-off into two or three groups and have their own space to enjoy. Pause awhile to enjoy the view over the garden from the window seat halfway up the stairs before reaching the first of the five bedrooms and three bathroom facilities - the high quality continues in each of the elegant bedrooms - three kingsize, a dual-aspect twin room, and one single room with a small double (4ft) bed. There is a lovely family bathroom with clawfoot bath and separate shower, and there are two further shower rooms on this level.
The garden is a real treat with a gently sloping lawned area, cottage garden-style flower beds and the old smokehouse. Garden furniture is provided for relaxing, or perhaps an alfresco meal. No problems parking here, as there is space for at least 5 cars.
The nearby village of Witherslack is within walking distance (28 minute walk via lanes), where you will find a well-renowned pub, The Derby Arms, and a local community store for essentials. Set in a valley, Key Moss has walks starting from the doorstep for you to enjoy the magnificent limestone topography of the area with the wooded slopes of Yewbarrow, and further beyond to the limestone escarpment of Whitbarrow Scar, being just one of many delightful walks in the area. Cyclists too, will be spoilt for choice on the quiet lanes and bridleways of the area - why not plan a half-day ride to one of the many highly rated dining pubs in this area, such as Heft at High Newton, The Masons Arms at Bowland Bridge, The Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite, or, for the dining experience of a lifetime, the 3 Michelin Star L'Enclume in Cartmel. Great local lunch spots include The Levens Hall Kitchen, and Yew Tree Barn at High Newton. This area is well known for its wildlife, with the annual visit of ospreys to the nearby Foulshaw Moss and, if you're lucky, red deer can spotted in the woods of the area. Spring brings carpets of bluebells, daffodils, and primroses to the woods and meadows, and don't forget that the autumn colours are equally magical.
