The Neighborhood:
The area:
Nestled in a serene bay on the southeastern coast of Patmos, Grikos is a peaceful and picturesque village that embodies the essence of island charm and tranquility. Often regarded as one of the most beautiful bays in the world, Grikos offers a unique combination of natural beauty, traditional architecture, and understated elegance. The bay is surrounded by rocky hills and crystal-clear waters, making it a haven for nature lovers and those seeking a calm, laid-back escape. The village is centered around a charming seafront promenade, lined with tavernas, cafés, and boutique accommodations, where visitors can enjoy fresh seafood and authentic Dodecanese cuisine right by the sea.
Grikos Beach, with its calm, shallow waters, is ideal for swimming and sunbathing, especially for families and couples looking for relaxation. Just a short walk away is Petra Beach, known for the striking rock of Kalikatsou, a mysterious formation with archaeological and spiritual significance. Adventurous travelers can hike or kayak around the bay for incredible views of the monastery-topped hills and hidden coves. The Sacred Monastery of Saint John the Theologian and the Cave of the Apocalypse—both UNESCO World Heritage Sites—are just a short drive or scenic walk away and offer insight into the island’s deep religious history.
While Patmos does not have its own airport, the nearest one is located on the neighboring island of Leros, with frequent ferry connections to Patmos. The Port of Skala, the main port of the island, is just about 4 kilometers from Grikos and connects the island to Piraeus (Athens) and other Dodecanese islands like Lipsi, Leros, and Kalymnos. Local buses and taxis operate between Skala and Grikos, though many visitors opt for car or scooter rentals to explore the island at their own pace.
Whether you're seeking a romantic seaside retreat, a spiritual pilgrimage, or simply a quiet place to unwind, Grikos in Patmos offers an unforgettable setting with rich cultural layers and the timeless beauty of the Aegean.
Other Things to Note:
Dear guest,
We hope you are looking forward to your upcoming stay with us!
We would like to inform you about an important regulation mandated by the Greek government. From April to October, all guests are required by law to pay an Environmental Fee. This fee cannot be included in the booking price and must be collected separately before arrival, as stipulated by the Greek authorities.
The fee is:
€8 per night for apartments
€15 per night for villas
Please note:
This amount is not a charge from us, and we do not profit from it in any way.
Once we collect this fee, we pay it in full directly to the government as a tax.
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to waive, reduce, or absorb this fee, no matter the circumstances.
Payment is required before check-in, as per Greek law.
We completely understand this might be frustrating, and we sincerely wish we could make it easier for you. However, we are legally obligated to comply, and without this payment, check-in is not permitted.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Should you have any questions or need assistance with the payment process, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Warm regards.
