About this property
Mountain Farm Cottage
Farm cottage for four with wonderful views, high in the hills of the Black Mountains in Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons) National Park. Enjoy the many walking, hiking and cycling routes in the area, or simply relax in an armchair by the log burner. The cottage is self-contained with its own entrance and private terrace, set on a working farm and adjoins the main farmhouse. Peaceful yet close to Crickhowell, Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye, it is the perfect base for exploring or relaxation.
This delightful cottage dates to the 17th Century and has been lovingly renovated, retaining much of its original character including a feature stone wall in the kitchen and sturdy oak beams. It sits in an elevated position on the side of a hill, adjoining the main farmhouse, at the top of a country lane. It is in a secluded location with beautiful views, yet within easy reach of local towns and amenities, including the popular high street of Crickhowell and ancient market town of Talgarth (both 15 mins away), Abergavenny (25 minutes), and Hay-on-Wye (30 minutes).
The cottage enjoys its own entrance, with parking for two cars on the farmyard, and a private terrace where you can sit out and enjoy the sights and sounds of the hills. You may see red kites and buzzards circling overhead, swallows and house martins dancing, sheep and ponies in the fields and the occasional tractor working. We are in a Dark Sky Reserve and on a clear night you can enjoy magical starry skies.
The cottage has a full kitchen with dining area, a cosy living room with leather armchairs and sofa, a log burner and double doors which open onto the terrace overlooking the mountains.
Upstairs there is sleeping for up to four. The bed linens are 100% cotton with feather and down duvets and pillows, and cotton blankets.
The main bedroom has a king size bed (which can also be split into two singles) with a wonderful view from the window which you can enjoy from your pillows with your morning coffee. There is also a comfortable twin room.
The bathroom has a shower stocked with lavender natural shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Two soft cotton towels are provided per person (a bath towel and a hand towel), and a large bath mat. There is a hairdryer available in the main bedroom wardrobe.
There are many walks and cycling routes in the local area, including directly from the farm. The cottage terrace has lockable sheds for bike storage if needed.
We are a working farm and there may be some farmyard activity during your stay. We have sheep here, as well as horses and shetland ponies. We are sure that you will enjoy the tranquility of being in the mountains; you may also hear the pitter patter of tiny hooves as the shetlands come in for their breakfast.
Other things to note
