Great location. Easy to get to, great views. Couldnt figure out the dishwasher. Washer and ryer took a long time for laundry. Perfect for our 4 adults.
This property is a great location and had everything we needed for our week in Reykjavik. Communication with the property managers was great. Thank you!
Three days in a lovely cottage, that had plenty of space for five of us, hot tub (strange that itis without the jets, but the crowd enjoyed it nonetheless), very clean, with absolutely stunning views(!). I wish there would be a kettle and a regular coffee maker. Would make our life much easier))
But we managed. Thank you for letting us stay here!
The property overlooks the town of Akureryi and is about a 5 min drive to the center of town. It easily accommodated our party of 8 (two families of four) and the beds were very comfortable too. If you are looking for a home base to explore Northern Iceland, I would recommend the Hrimland Cottages. The only thing keeping this property from being a 5-star is the property manager was not as communicative as I prefer. However, all information was provided and check-in was smooth.
This property was a modern, clean cottage a few minutes up from Akureyri center. It was not an issue for us to take a few minutes to drive where we wanted to go. The setting is peaceful and offers great views. The home itself was very comfortable and well-equipped with everything we needed except for one seemingly minor but nonetheless annoying thing: the coffee mugs wouldn’t fit under the coffee maker.Aside from that, everything was perfect. The hot tub & neighborhood playground were especially enjoyed by our boys. And mom appreciated the washer and dryer (that fully dried clothes!) and available detergent. The host was reasonably responsive. Thank you for the wonderful accommodations!
We had a little difficulty with entry because the property manager was using What's App to communicate and my app was inactive. But we got it sorted out.
The cottage itself was beautiful - bright and spacious and had a fantastic view of the bay. It was the perfect base of operations from which my family explored the North with numerous day trips around Akureyri and Dalvik. We were very close to all the city resources we needed but also felt that we were "getting away from it all." We were sad to leave.
The king sized bed was actually two singles which we needed to push together ourselves, but that was ok. The kids loved the bunk beds! It was really nice having a hot tub, full kitchen, and washer/dryer for our clothes. You should be aware that using the upper shower head at full throttle can overwhelm the drain and build up a pool of water -- just something to watch for if you're not used to this style of shower. Also, if you happen to be there during a heat wave in the summer, this cottage can get quite warm, so you'll have to manage the floor heat, blinds and windows if it gets too hot. But these are just the details of getting used to a new place. The hosts were eager to help us adjust and that was appreciated.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend it highly.
The location is "above" Akureyri, but not far away. It was nice to be away from the noise and cruise ship crowds. The accommodation is lovely - large, spacious. It has laundry, a full kitchen, two bathrooms, a HUGE tub and plenty of beds for all. It was clean, accessible and had everything we needed. I wished we stayed longer and will definitely use it again if in the area.
BEWARE!!!! This property is NOT as advertised in the pictures. The closeup with the mountains and grass is photoshopped - that view does not exist. The wide view with a dozen homes on a mountainside is either old or photoshopped - the rental is in a large and growing community now three times the quantity of homes in the picture and is a massive construction zone with tall cranes and lots of traffic. Views - only three of the homes have the advertised view, the rest have a view of the sky and into windows of your neighbor’s cabin. Hot tub - not a hot tub, but an oversized bath that holds too-hot water (can’t regulate temp) and no jets. Cleaning fee - high cleaning fee then they post in the home that you have to clean everything and remove your trash. Access - minimal to no access in the snow, and the owner refuses to plow or salt up to the entrance - I took a nasty fall on my wrist and hip carrying a 40lb suitcase on a 4” thick sheet of ice that went from the driveway to the front door and the resulting pain inhibited my skiing ability. When I told the owner about it he said “ahh” and when I asked him to create safe access to my door he refused response to that only offering to refund me and have me leave. Instead of providing any help or safe access he said he was calling the police to report my recording of an accident. What???

Our cottages are in Hálönd, Hálönd is a area above Akureyri halfway up towards the ski resort. Ever since the first houses where build in 2014 Hálönd has been very popular with Icelanders and travellers both in the winter, when you often can ski right down to your cottage. Or in the summer because of the views, or the opportunities to see the northern lights away from the city lights. All the cottages provide a view of one or more of following, the mountain, Akureyri or Eyjafjörður. Hálönd has from 2014 been growing and from the 10 houses it was at first, there is now almost at the 100 houses mark which there is planning permission for. We will have 16 houses there by the end of 2022. It is disappointing when a guest is unhappy after a stay, we always try our best to make the stay for our guests as good as possible. In this case the guest arrived late at night in a difficult winter weather which we do get here in northern Iceland in January, the guest was not happy with the cottage he got. The cottage he first got was picked for the easiest access for the guest, due to the weather. Next day we gave the guest option of 3 other cottages but did warn that in two of them there was difficult access because of the weather. The guest did pic one of the cottages with a difficult access. When we heard from our guest again, after moving to the other cottage he still was not happy. We then offered the guest full refund if he wanted to leave and get a different accommodation more suited for his needs in the winter weather, the guest refused that offer and stayed the full 7 nights. There is no cleaning fee, cleaning is included in the price. The hot tub is set at 38 degrees and then there is an option for the guests to make it a little warmer or colder. When the guest told us that he had an accident we where concerned so we asked the emergency service to stop by and check if the guest was ok and if he needed a medical attention. We constantly look for ways to improve our service and aim to provide a great stay in Hrimland cottages for all our guest. Best Regards Hrimland
Our trip to Iceland started with a stay in this beautiful home. There were 5 of us and we were so comfortable (beds are amazing, kitchen is gorgeous and the view is beautiful!). The checkin process was easy, the house information was clear and helpful and overall we had such a great time! Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to stay in Northern Iceland and enjoy the sites!
A spacious, warm and welcoming property with everything you need for a family trip. We enjoyed the hot tub and the picnic table outside. Spectacular views of the fjord - we enjoyed watching a cruise ship coming up the fjord. Great communication from hosts. Highly recommend this place, especially for larger family groups.
The property was very nice and well equipped. We are a family of six and the size was fine for us; however, we feel that it might have been a little cramped for the advertised eight occupancy.
Larus was very prompt in answering our questions about the house. We really enjoyed our stay.
