About this property
Historic Estate in the Loire Valley .Private Domain, Heated Pool (Sleeps 28–30)
Discover an exceptional private estate in the heart of the Loire Valley, combining French heritage, luxury accommodation, and nature. Set along a peaceful country lane, the property is perfectly located 10 minutes from Azay-le-Rideau and 20 minutes from Tours, offering easy access to the region’s most iconic castles, vineyards, and cultural sites.
The estate itself has a remarkable past: it was historically a dependency of the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, one of the most important monastic cities in Europe. Fontevraud is the resting place of Richard the Lionheart, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Henry II of England, and Isabelle of Angoulême, making it a major site for medieval history enthusiasts. The architectural heritage and preserved period features on the estate reflect this prestigious lineage, offering guests an immersive connection to centuries of French and English history.
Nearby, the charming village of Saché (3 km) — known for its ties to Honoré de Balzac and Alexander Calder — provides daily conveniences, including a bakery, café, post office, Sunday market, and the renowned restaurant Auberge du XIIᵉ Siècle.
The property, named “Prieuré de Relay,” is well signposted and easy to access.
Within easy reach are the attractions of the Loire valley: the castles and gardens of the kings of France: Chenonceau, Ussé, Chambord…, the troglodyte houses carved into the famous limestone, canoeing and fishing on the Loire or Indre rivers , the variety of restaurants offering fine French cuisine and of course the many vineyards covering the Touraine landscape. Clos Lucé the residence of Leonardo de Vinci and other leisure places such as the Parc des mini-Châteaux, Aquarium of Touraine, Zoo of Beauval are all reachable in less than 40 minutes.
The surrounding area offers forest walks, horseback and pony trekking, golf, water sports, tennis, and quiet moments in a private and serene natural setting.
The estate consists of three separate buildings, restored to offer luxury accommodation with authentic heritage character:
• The Hunting Lodge — sleeps 12
• The Priory — sleeps 12
• The Cavalry Courthouse — sleeps 4
All buildings are located on a private, gated estate bordering forest land, offering direct access to peaceful woodland walking paths.
