The host was extremely welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed for a great visit. The location is great - not quite walking distance to the slopes, but close enough for an easy drop-off. The view of the woods is great and it feels very private despite other cabins nearby, and the cozy fire made this a charming escape. The interior is a little dated but clean and highly functional with comfortable furniture and a thoughtful layout. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook all the meals we planned.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We’re so glad you felt welcomed and had everything you needed for a great stay. It’s wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the wooded views, the privacy of the cabin, and cozying up by the fire — that’s exactly the kind of relaxing escape we hope our guests experience.
We appreciate your feedback about the interior as well. While the cabin does have a bit of classic charm, we’re happy to know you found it clean, functional, and comfortable. Comfortable beds and a well-stocked kitchen are priorities for us, so it’s great to hear those stood out during your visit.
Thank you again for staying with us. We’d love to welcome you back for another getaway anytime!
Host was great. Place was set up for us. It was as described!

Thank you so much for being our guest. We love hearing that you had a great stay. We would love to have you back. Just give us a call and we would be happy to offer a great guest discount!
Great accommodations and easy access to golfing. There were 3 of us so it was a very good fit with the 3 bedrooms. Only suggestion to host is it would be nice to have a leaf blower available to clear off front porch and rear deck. Will stay here again.
The house was perfect for our weekend in Bellaire. We had six adults, 3 couples in 3 bedrooms. The weekend was very hot but the house was cool and comfortable.

We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. Please come back again!
The property was in the woods, with a nice fire pit and free wood. There was access to 3 pools and a golf course, we never used any of that though. Good location. Air conditioning upstairs was loud. No air in the bedrooms, only main living quarters. Plenty of kitchen appliances and pots and pans. Overall would recommend for the price.

Hi Sue,
We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your time at Hideaway.
We are looking forward to your upcoming stay in August. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to assist you with that stay.
Have a great day!
We came up-north to go to the Cherry Festival, Sand Dunes, and Torch Lake. The house was perfect. It was centrally located and just perfect. We had bonfires at night and did game night at the kitchen table. There were extra towels in the bathroom and our dog was allowed, that is a bonus for me.
Just as advertised! Property managers promptly responded to our questions. Would definitely rent again if we travel this far north.

Hi Mollie,
Thanks for being our guest!
While we were speaking on the phone, you explained how much you enjoyed your stay. We were a little confused as to the one star and you mentioned that was in error and you would correct that. We would certainly appreciate it if you would do that.
Have a great day!
My family and I were searching for getaways near Ohio and stumbled across this cabin. It was perfect in everyway. Had everything we needed if we wanted to stay in and was within around an hour to everything we wanted to see in Northern Michigan. Property management was very on top of things and answered all of our questions quickly to ensure we had a worry-free stay.
Great house, reasonably priced close to Torch Lake. House was a bit smaller than pictures made it look, but overall it worked great for our group of 7. Clean, cabinets well stocked with dishes and cookware. Charcoal grill on deck, fire ring. Beautiful atmosphere tucked in the woods.

Hi Melissa,
Thank you so much for the review and for being our guest. We are always happy to hear our guests had a great time and enjoyed the property. The atmosphere at Contemporary Hideaway is one of our favorites!
The property had plenty of room for our family. We enjoyed the area of the home and the pool area is excellent. The property itself could use a little spiffing up outside, the entrance was full off cobwebs and old dried up leaves. There was a big branch on the roof that hung over the entrance that was a little concerning. The upstairs air conditioner did not work well and made a loud weird noise, however the lower level one worked very well. We wished that there would have been information left about area dining, stores and activities. Overall our stay was pretty great and we had a nice time. Thank you!

Hi Rob,
Thank you for being our guest and for leaving a review. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the pool and had plenty of room. We will have maintenance go out and take care of cobwebs and leaves. We apologize for the branch and will have that taken care of as well.
We will have the mini splits checked as well. Thanks for letting us know.
Convenient location near the ski hill and just a few minutes from downtown. Host was very responsive when additional requests were made for towels. All the basics were available in the house and kitchen, but will need to bring additional items above the basics you might want (storage containers, bags, tin foil, etc.). Good stay overall! There is a real wood fireplace with wood provided, but it does leave the house a bit smoky smelling. Enjoyed our stay and would return.

Served our purpose
Pros: reasonably priced, good location for day trips to other areas of Michigan, private and quiet, pool was fine however not sure if it was heated, timely return of deposit.
Cons: carpet very dirty and heavily stained, coffee pot required pre filled packets like at hotels and only provided with 2, 2nd coffee pot dirty and likely not safe to use, however did not try, spiral staircase could pose a hazard for older guests or children, hot water heater is not sufficient for back to back showers.

Hi Kelly
Thank you for being our guest!
We are glad you found the price reasonable and that the location was a good choice. The outdoor pool is heated and does provide a refreshing swim.
We are a little confused on the carpeting concern as it was recently cleaned. We do not provide coffee for the duration of our guest's stay as people have many different preferences and brands that they prefer. We do however supply a coffee packet so when our guests arrive after a long drive, they can make a pot and relax for a few minutes before getting settled.
Thanks again for being our guest.
I wish there would have been instructions to show the tv in the bedroom. None of us could figure out how to use it. Otherwise, it was a great place, nice and clean and we felt at home. Thanks again.

Hi Sally,
Glad to hear everything was nice and clean and that you felt at home. We wish you would have called us about the TV - we would have sent maintenance right over to get it going for you.
Thanks for the review and for being our guest!
Overall the property was good. The only problems were the dog hair should have been vacuumed off of the comforter in the master bedroom. The pillow cases in the master had makup smudged on them and the cable box in the master had an error code an inoperative. Had a firestick with us so TV wasn't an issue. Other than 5hat we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again. I know it sounds like complaining but these things needed to be brought to your attention. Thank you all and again enjoyed ourselves
The only complaint I have is the upstairs shower, if you are a child or a small size adult (and I mean small size)then the shower is ok but it was definitely not made to fit an average size adult. Everything else was great , all appliances worked great and the kitchen was stocked well with all needed utensils and pots and pans. Communication was excellent when ever we had a question. Almost forgot the back patio light never worked, a electrician was sent out but couldn't fix the problem.

Heat wasn't adequate, no firewood, dirty pots, not clean
It was very disappointing. We arrived Friday evening and the heat was not adequate to heat the bottom floor. We kept our coats on. The listing stated wood was provided. The wood rack had one piece inside and none outside. The kitchen had cheap pots and pans. We tried to use the sauce pan and it was very scratched and crusted with food. There was a used tissue between the nightstand and bed in the first bedroom. Was it ever cleaned? It would have been nice to have local information, map of the area, matches, pot holders, garbage bags, ice in the ice trays, fire wood and mattress pads on the beds. And to top it all off--the pool had no water so we couldn't swim. Overall, terrible place to stay.

Hi Jane,
The heating was checked prior to your arrival and everything was working fine. The heating units are very new. Wood racks are filled once a week- we certainly would have someone brought more if you had alerted us it was low. The unit is thoroughly cleaned before each guest - we apologize that the tissue was overlooked. There is a printed unit guide in the home with local information and a complete hospitality app in VRBO for this property. We have no idea what pool you are speaking of. The pool pass is for the indoor and outdoor pools at Schuss and Summit Villages and they have been up and running daily at all times. The information provided in VRBO gives very specific instructions on what pools are available and the hours. We encourage you in the future to read all the information provided for the property you are booking.

Disappointed
The photos of this rental made this place look amazing. Not the case when we arrived. Very dark inside the house. House is located among many trees. In the winter with snow on the ground and no leaves the house will have more sunlight.
The furniture was very warn that needs to be replaced and visible stains on the pillows.
The house needs deep cleaning, sticky floors, cobwebs and spiders everywhere. The deck off the back was nice but all the furniture was dirty.
The pans need to be replaced, Teflon coming off on every one.
The screen door on the doorwall needs to be fixed. There was a review from 2020 stating the same thing and hasn't been repaired.
We had enough towels for a couple of days. I called the property manager and they delivered enough for the rest of the week in a timely manner.
The TV situation was ridiculous. Passwords for the services should have been already on programmed. Didn't want to use my own passwords on someone else's system. Happy we had brought our own firestick so that we could watch tv.
The internet password provided in my email was incorrect. We found the password on the router.
Upstairs shower is very small 3x3 ft. Downstairs is full size shower and tub.
This house needs a list or a book to explain all the details of the house. Ex: how to use the heat, a/c, trash location, how to get more linens, internet and tv passwords, pool instructions, list of restaurants and things to do in the area.
We left one day early because we just couldn't take it any longer.
I hope this review helps the property owner to improve this rental. This rental has great potential but needs to be updated and cleaned.

Hi Denise
We are disappointed that you did not bring any of your concerns (except needing more towels) to our attention while you were at the property. They would have been addressed immediately; improving your stay. We will address them now.
The house is located in a deeply wooded area. As you must know we have no control on when the trees choose to keep or shed their leaves. The pictures taken reflect the property on that particular day.
Thank you for letting us know about the furniture. We will certainly pass that along. Spiders do tend to sneak in when one is not looking, especially as the weather is turning colder. We will have housekeeping take a closer look and relocate them back outside. We will also have housekeeping take a look at the deck furniture. Rainy, windy days certainly do messy up the outdoor decor - we will address that and make improvements.
Brand new frying pans would have been delivered to your door if you had let us know. We have a large inventory of kitchen/home ware ready for replacing any items as needed.
The door wall screen is a challenge. It is an unusual size and a previous person/guest took it with them; never to be seen again. We are actively repairing it, and trying replacement doors as we find ones that may work.
We were happy to bring you more towels.
The TV service depends on each guest to log into their own personal accounts and then log out on departure. I'm sure you understand that each guest's viewing preferences are different. What may be appropriate for one guest, might not be for the next.
The internet password for the wi-fi has not changed since the property came on rental many many years ago.
Obviously, we cannot control the size of the showers.
There is extensive information about how to use the amenities in the house in the manual/property guide on VRBO. There is also a large full color "Explore" book in the property detailing restaurants and things to do from Charlevoix to Northport.
The owners have spent much time and money on this property. Most recently the crawl space was encapsulated, downstairs flooring replaced, and the exterior of the home painted. We will certainly pass along your comments to them.
The majority of the guests at Contemporary Hideaway do appreciate the improvements and the wooded setting. We hope all of our guests return; however we believe another property may be more suitable for you in the future.
Thanks for being our guest.
We loved our stay. The condo had everything we needed. It's cozy and a great location. Great communication for the host. We'd definitely stay again.
