Great location, cute concept, clean inside. Could definitely use a newer mattress, an on demand water heater, and blackout curtains. It served its purpose to keep me out of the elements but not very comfortable.
Everything was just as expected, a nice clean room by the beach. The neighbors there were really friendly, the restaurants nearby were all amazing, and the sunsets were spectacular. The room was quiet, there was beach access steps away and the view from the rooftop chairs was really cool.

Very relaxing
We enjoyed our time there. We just didn't realize that most everything was still "closed for the season" in Feb. Still, we had a great experience.
After hurricane Erin came through, we weren't sure if or when we would be able to get to our place. John, my host, kept me up to date and worked with me through the whole week. We found out Saturday afternoon that we would be able to be in on Sunday and could stay till the next Sunday. I was so happy!
Not our first time at the Cabanas, but it was our first time at this one specifically. It was great for our needs and we always enjoy the beach access it offers. We collected so many shells! We also loved Happy Belly Ice Cream and Dancing Turtle Coffee Shop. The Buxton Book Store is also a favorite. We appreciate you letting us stay here. It was just what we needed.
Close to everything hattaras/Frisco/Buxton, & beach it’s on is better than Frisco or hattaras. Still great sunrises even though it mostly faces south. Loved the 3 balconies- used each of them daily. It was cool it was a “condo” but freestanding, so you have neighbors but no shared walls. Super hot water, cable tv, kickin ac. Overall wonderful for solo or couple. Would definitely book again

Based on feedback from guests a new bed is now in the unit. The photos in our listing accurately depict the cabana. The feel is that of a Classic Carolina beach cottage. Personal preferences determine the need of an update.
Having stayed at Hatteras Cabannas in the past I knew the location and size of the unit was not going to be a problem. It was just my wife, I, and are golden retriever staying at night. We had friends just down the road who had rented a big house and so days were spent with them. My problem with the unit and why I give it a 2 overall was that the owners have not done anything to update this unit besides a new bed. The tub diverter valve barely worked, blinds were missing slats, the screen door screen was torn and out of it's frame, the HVAC filter was dirty, the refrigerator door - all the door keepers for bottles were broken, the starter package of detergent was a tiny little pod that had to be broken up to use. And the list could keep going and going. This could be a great little spot to spend the week - and it was....,I just wish that owners would spend a little time and money maintaining places instead of just taking in rent.

The photos of our Cabana are an honest representation of what you will see and experience when you stay there. It is difficult to understand that seeing the photos that you would be surprised that in your opinion the “property needs updating”. The Cabana has the feel similar to a classic coastal Carolina cottage. We apologize for the issues you found which must be very recent as we have not been aware of them until you brought them to our attention. During heavy use in the height of tourist season there can be delays in doing some repairs. Strangely we consistently receive 4 and 5 star reviews from this and other listing services and quickly take care of issues that are brought to our attention. What do you mean at the end of your complaints to say “and on and on”? To insult us with “the owners would spend a little time and money maintaining places (sic) instead of just taking in rent” is completely out of line.
Needs work. Plaster in ceiling do to leaks gone. Bed too small. Needs a queen not a double. How about some black out shades. Two cups and two glasses? Other wise plenty of silver ware. House keeper left an envelope for a tip What is that about. Her job to get it clean.
Great location, easy quick walk to beach. Owner was very nice to deal with. Only suggestion would be to have a hose outside to clean off beach chairs and car.
We arrived a few hours early and were allowed in to get settled. The owner was always quick to respond to any questions. Loved the roof top area for views, sunsets; cozy with a cocktail and blanket. Perfect get away
John's cabana was a perfect location for a quiet getaway for me and my daughter. The location right on the beach couldn't be better, and the rooftop deck provides a nice view of the ocean and perfect sunset views in the evening! The cabana is a perfect size for a couple or small family and the kitchen was well appointed with everything we needed. We would definitely book again!
We love the cabanas! Perfect for couples or small families. The location is perfect and everyone is friendly. Looking forward to staying again next year!
340 sq ft is not a lot of room for 2 people and a big dog for a week but fortunately the weather was great and we spent days outside and really only used the place for showers and sleep. The mattress was way to soft for the the both of our liking and a bunch of command hooks strategically placed would have made a big difference in putting stuff away but overall the place functions well, is just a short walk to the beach and has the basics for cooking. Hieght limitations for truck/jeep parking so if you have a lift kit you may not be able to park under the unit.
Great for a 2 people , dog friendly cabana and area! Very clean and well kept.

About the host
Hosted by John Purifoy
My wife and are are not on the premises, so please call or text us anytime if you have any questions. Our permanent home is on the Pamlico River in what is known as the Inner Banks of North Carolina. We enjoy sailing, kayaking, fishing and just being outside and on the water. We have several mountain condos that we rent and we spend three to four months in the winter at our condo in Everglades City, Florida which we are hoping to have available for rental in the near future.
Why they chose this property
This cabana allows us to have our own little slice of oceanfront to enjoy and share with others. A great place to get away from the crowds, relax and take long walks along the beach.
