About this property

2 Bed in Thornford (oc-h34504)

A delightful retreat in Thornford, this exquisite cottage is a true Dorset treat. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom abode has been sympathetically renovated to ensure it still embodies all its original character and offers a warm welcome to guests. Some 4.5 miles from Sherborne and 5.5 miles from Yeovil, it is well located for those who enjoy getting out and about on foot or by bicycle. Head into Sherborne, with its golden architecture, to visit the abbey and discover the market town’s two very different castles. One of these has exquisite gardens that were landscaped by renowned designer Capability Brown, while the other dates back to the 12th century. Head 10.5 miles to Cerne Abbas to see the famous chalk giant on the hillside. Spend some time on the Jurassic Coast; enjoy the beach at West Bay, 22 miles away, or follow a section of the South West Coast Path.

Pull off your walking boots or wellies in the covered porch and step into the friendly cottage. Find yourselves in a cosy dining hall, where you can gather for meals, to play a game or chat over a cup of tea and slice of Dorset apple cake. A handy cloak room is just inside the front door for storing coats and shoes. Heading further into the Cottage you are greeted by the open-plan kitchen, where you have everything needed to prepare your delicious feasts, this gorgeous space has a vaulted ceiling and views out over the garden through the large patio doors. Relax in here after dining together or amble through to the snug, where you can light the wood burner and snuggle up in its heat in front of your favourite show on the Smart TV. Completing the ground floor is a separate WC. As night falls on the Dorset countryside, and your bed begins to beckon, climb the stairs to the first floor of the cottage. Here you have the choice of two lovely king-size bedrooms, one with zip-and-link beds that can also be arranged as two singles if requested in advance. The family shower room is also upstairs and completes the interior.

Wander out into the garden on fine days. Choose whether to unwind out in the fresh air or in the lovely summer house, where there is an additional fridge/freezer for your chilled drinks or ice creams. The cottage has private, off-road parking for one car, plus additional on-street spaces subject to availability.
