My partner and I, plus my adult daughter who lives in the UK, had a wonderful (though too brief) stay at Lakelake Cottage in Troutbeck. Most importantly, our host Stuart was very quick to respond to any questions we had during our stay (and beforehand), even while he was in other countries and time zones. We all loved his cottage: it was clean, homey, airy and light, comfortable, well-appointed and had a great view of the various fells nearby. We were there during very hot weather (July, 2026) but we never needed anything other than to open the windows and door to the courtyard to feel comfortable. We had no car, but as noted in the description of the property, we were able to access a number of hikes literally out the front door. We took advantage of the cottage's proximity to The Mortal Man to have dinner there as well as hiring an Uber to the Rowan in Ambleside. We had hoped to pop in to the Old Post Office (less than 10 minutes walk) but usually were so eager just to relax at "home." The kitchen, btw, has (good!) knives and sufficient pots and pans for cooking, though we ended up really not doing much in that line. If one comes to the cottage by train (which we did), Booths is right at the train station, allowing you to stock up on all sorts of necessities and goodies
