Loon Camp - right on Lake St. George, multi-sleeping areas, canoe included
"Loon Camp" puts you right on Lake St. George - the screened in porch is only 5 feet from the water. It is one of the most desirable lots on the lake, with its unusually level land and west facing exposure, providing afternoon sun, stunning sunsets, and the panorama benefiting from being centered on the largest open part of the lake. It has nice open living room with a vaulted ceiling and a large front window. You won't be to take your eyes off the water while dining at the main table (sits 6). The farmer's porch is an incredible place to relax and enjoy the view of the lake and islands, with plenty of comfortable chairs. The quiet and seclusion of this location makes for a restful and peaceful vacation. Watching the loons swim past close to shore simply amazing. Listening to their calls at night will provide a unique experience.
The kitchen has everything you'll need for your stay. Electric stove, refrigerator, drinking water from a drilled well, coffee maker, electric grill and skillet, etc... and all the utensils you will require for your stay . Paper towels, dug well, toilet paper, etc... are provided. The main camp has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with two twins. The detached bunk house has two twin beds and a double bed, separated into two bed rooms. Linens, face cloths, towels, etc... are NOT available, so you will need to bring your own. Off the kitchen is a large bathroom with a tub/shower. For grilling, lounging, and eating outdoors, the large raised rear deck is outfitted with a picnic table and gas grill, catching sun starting around mid morning. New dock in 2019 to accommodate boat docking, along with a boat mooring in 2021. The canoe has an area next to the camp for easy launching and storage. In case it gets cool, we have an externally vented Rinnai heater in the great room. There is also a TV and DVD player (and DVD library). TV reception is via an external antenna. We added internet in 2018 and added a booster in 2019. Our internet provider is DSL though and is slower.

Great impression! Very welcoming place! It's a cozy house and reliable people. Lake is beautiful all year round. Neighborhoods are more than picturesque. You will enjoy 100%!!!
A cozy retreat for 5 old friends. Quiet, especially so late in the season... but for the loons and crows. The location provided all that we needed -- lake view, sunsets, lapping waves, a nearby little hike with a big view, daily kayaking, quirky fun Liberty, and easy access to Belfast, one of my favorite towns. Mike and Mary are great.
My wife and I stayed 5 nights at Loon Camp and couldn't be happier with the experience. A nicely appointed rustic cabin on a beautiful location on St George Lake. Mike is an excellent host who answered all of our correspondence quickly and clearly.
Traditional Maine camp steps from beautiful Lake St. George. Our family loved it! Canoeing, fishing, and swimming. The loons serenaded us every evening. Relaxing and peaceful. We'll be back!
We just had the pleasure of staying a few days at Loon Cabin on Lake St. George in Liberty Maine. The cabin was great, immaculate with a homey atmosphere. Great location, beautiful view. Michael, the owner, was very attentive and even told us the history of the cabin and the town. We absolutely loved our time there and can't wait to go back.
Thank you to Mike & Mary for offering a retreat from everyday life. Well appointed cottage waiting to help you relax, chill, enjoy sunrises & sunsets. Great location on the lake & close to Augusta & beautiful rural surrounding Towns.
We will surely return!
My wife and I stayed here the night of and the night following our wedding as a sort of micro-pre-honeymoon. It was an excellent choice. The cabin is spacious, clear and relatively well-stocked. Lake access via the dock is directly out the back door - though we stayed in early October, this would be ideal for a summer stay. Loved it!

I didn't meet Brian and his new wife but I am so happy that they found our place and could come to stay for a few days.

Charming rustic cottage on the shore of the lake. Easy access to water - which our senior lab enjoyed for hours. The kitchen had everything we needed (plates, utensils, toaster, etc.). The wifi was a little spotty. There was a plumbing issue but the owner was very responsive to resolve. The rainy weather kept us inside but we enjoyed puzzles and naps. From the screened in porch we could hear the loons. Good pizza, as well as brewery near by. Mike was a wonderful host.

Wonderful Family Getaway
If you are looking for a nice cabin getaway on a beautiful lake, then this is the place for you. The cabin had more than ample room for our family of four, each room is spacious and clean. Nothing like enjoying our meals overlooking the stunning views of Lake St. George; which is one of the most cleanest, picturesque lakes in all of Maine. Fishing from the dock is spectacular, my 5 & 3 year old caught fish they had no business catching with a worm and bobber. The sunsets from the porch or the dock are breathtaking. I selfishly don't want to write how great this cabin & location are but that would be unfair to our gracious hosts Mike & Mary, who are wonderful people. I can't thank them enough for sharing their slice of paradise with me & my family.
I would like to give a rating but had to cancel the day before leaving..owner called to inform us he had a serious plumbing problem from busted or frozen pipes. After spending a lot of time searching for the right place ……now to late in year to find a suitable replacement. Owner expressed his regrets for something out of his control. My wife and I are both in our 70s and discovered the best plans can go bad at the last minute.

It was very unfortunate that I had a major plumbing issue that was caused by years of the camp moving around during the winter and sewer pipes being broken and disconnected. I contacted you immediately to inform you of the situation and I tried to find other alternatives for you. Unfortunately, the plumbing problem was not fixed until the Wednesday of your stay. You said that you would like to give a rating and in fact, you did give a rating of 1 which I think is unfair. You could have rated me on my professionalism, communication and speedy return of your funds. You are certainly welcome to come back next year and we will try to make it up to you somehow.
We had a great week on Lake St George at Camp Loon. Its an old-fashioned camp with two bedrooms and a charming bunkhouse for extra guests (that we didn't use). The kitchen and bathroom were functional and the best feature, Lake St George, was a specular presence in the living room through the many windows overlooking. A simple screened in porch got you within feet of the lake. Owners lived next door and were helpful, but not intrusive in the least. There aren't a ton of restaurants nearby which are open, but there's a good brewery about a 6 minute drive away (Lake St George Brewery) and towns of Camden, Belfast and Rockland a 30-40 minute drive to the coast. The tiny town of Liberty nearby has one family-run restaurant with some good beer on tap with a limited menu (not veg-friendly). Lots of parks and preserves nearby. Or just stay on the camp porch and enjoy the sound of the lake and loons. The camp is dog-friendly, which we appreciated. Hope to stay again!
This was a great place to stay and unwind from the stress of everyday living. While it was early in the season, we still found plenty to do and plenty of places open for business.
Being so close to the water was just wonderful. Loons calling, and in the morning roosting Under the dock! Gorgeous sunset views. Well equipped kitchen, large bath, clean comfortable beds. Wonderful woods. Very private. Lovely host who checked in with us to make sure all was OK. Way more than OK. Only thing I would add is that the building is a bit rustic, which we enjoyed very much. It is a camp cabin. The floors are a little uneven, so if you have trouble walking, be prepared. But unlike other camps we have stayed in, very clean and airy. No mustiness like some cabins this close to the water develop over time. Hope to be back.
We were attending the Common Ground Fair in Unity and found this place fairly last minute, just a twenty minute drive away. What a perfect find! We will definitely come again, simply to stay and enjoy the cabin and lake, whether or not we're going to the fair. Everything was clean, cozy and checkin was really easy. We loved reading and enjoying the view off the back porch and watching the sunset in the evenings. It was a beautiful location and the perfect spot to relax and get away.

Perfect quiet, rustic Maine getaway!
Enjoyed a third stay at Loon Camp. If you need all the vacation rental bells and whistles, this probably isn't the place for you, but if you love the water and enjoy a really laid back, peaceful vacation, Loon Camp is ideal!

Loon Camp is a rustic but attractive cabin in a beautiful location but the devil is in the details.
Loon Camp is attractive, private and in a beautiful location. There are, however, many details that need attention. The information about the camp sent by the owner is seriously out of date: the road sign mentioned in the directions is gone, the internet access code is incorrect and the directions for using the DVD player are useless as the remote has never been programmed. These problems are easily solved but should have been attended to at the start of the summer rental season. We did have a problem with the water system that required a plumber but that was fairly quickly remedied.

Serenity and tranquility.
What a lovely spot for a vacation. Loons calling, gorgeous sunsets and the fish were biting. Loon Camp is a very comfortable spot, with a well-stocked kitchen, a screened-in porch and a great deck, for either reading the paper or casting a line. Our grandchildren visited and had a blast, fishing, swimming to the float and dancing around the bonfire. Beds were comfortable, and the main room had several different areas, for reading, eating or puzzles. Having the canoe available was great. We had a wonderful time.

Loon Camp - One of the Best Rentals We've Had
We absolutely loved our stay at Loon Camp! The camp was very cozy and clean and we loved sitting on the porch and watching the activity on the lake. Mike and Mary were fantastic hosts and made sure our stay was top notch. They even had a swim mat for us to use. I think the adults had just as much fun on it as the kids. Our week at Loon Camp was definitely the highlight of the summer and we are already looking forward to coming back next summer!

About the host
Hosted by Michael Cressey
My parent's purchased "Loon Camp" back in the early 1960's. I spent many a summer day there as a young boy. We sold the cottage in 1967 and it remained in the Gendron family for many years, until my wife and I bought it back in 2018.
Why they chose this property
This property is probably on one of the best and oldest lots on the eastern shore of St. George's Lake. It was originally owned by Anne Crosby Johnson, a wealthy heiress and philanthropist who lived in Belfast, Maine. Mrs. Crosby's grandfather, William G. Crosby, was an ex-governor of the State of Maine.
What makes this property unique
Beautiful sunsets, usually a nice afternoon breeze, great views of the lake.
