About the surrounding area: Robbinsville, North Carolina is located in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountain Region of the southern Appalachian mountains. Known for its diverse species of flora and fauna, the region is home to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Slickrock Creek Wilderness Area, Nantahala National Forest, the Cherohala Skyway National Scenic Byway, Cherokee National Forest and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
From Huffman Creek, you're only moments to the secluded waters of Lake Santeetlah. The lake boasts almost an entirely undeveloped shoreline with 75% being home to National Forest. With a restricted number of residences, the quiet lake is ideal for boating, fishing, swimming, and any of your favorite water sports. Boat and jet ski rentals are available throughout the spring and summer seasons. We recommend Smoky Mountain Kayak Fishing and Boat rentals for superior service!
Take a short drive to Highway 129 and take on the adventure of driving the 'Tail of the Dragon.' The world renowned road is a challenge even for the greatest road warriors with 318 curves in just 11 miles. Continue on your journey and loop back around to Huffman Creek on the Cherohala Skyway which winds through mountaintop ridges of the Cherokee National Forrest. These views are certainly something to write home about. Be sure to bring your camera!
For the history buffs, you're just a short drive to Cherokee, North Carolina, home to the eastern Band of Cherokee People. Try your luck at Harrah's Cherokee Casino or visit one of the many restaurants, shops, and museums. Qualla Arts is by far one of our very favorite stops in Cherokee and it's right across the street from the Museum of Cherokee People.
Embrace your inner adventurer and head down the Nantahala river. Featuring a combination of Class II and III rapids, there is something for the novice and full-on adrenaline junkie. Be sure to contact one of the multiple rafting companies in Bryson City to schedule your full day of adventure. Between white water rafting, ziplining, mountain biking, and horse back riding, you'll be ready to relax when you arrive back at Huffman Creek.
Enjoy the quieter side of your stay just outside of your door. Take a nap by the private creek while you enjoy friends and family fishing for trout. Or grab a book from our rotating selection and sip on the small-batch roasted coffee we provide from Little River Coffee Company. Each bag is filled with hand picked coffee beans roasted to perfection right in the Smoky Mountains.
There is certainly nothing more therapeutic than curling up in your cabin during the occasional afternoon rain or warming up by your private fire and enjoying the modern convenience of a twilight movie.
Head down to the fire pit for an evening of stories, laughs, good eats, and of course, smores.
The Creekside Lodge at Huffman Creek Retreat offers an abundance of opportunity for the culinary enthusiast to prepare a quick picnic to take along for the day's hike or a full feast to celebrate a day of outdoor fun and relaxation.

Take advantage of the 1.5 miles of private stream with an abundance of waterfalls and hand hewed bridges. Be sure to bring a fly rod and your favorite fishing gear to see what you can catch.
If it's a hike you're looking for, enjoy the property's five + miles of private hiking trails with ample room for camping opportunities. Pack a lunch or a full pack for an overnight stay. Either way, be sure to bring along your camera to snap a shot of the abundant wildlife, waterfalls, streams, and various mountain views.
The region, located in the Appalachian biosphere, is home to the world's densest population of salamanders. Be sure not to touch them though, this protected species is known for the unique characteristic of breathing through its skin.

Whether you come for inspiration, relaxation, or adventure, this private mountain escape will provide just what you seek. Creekside Lodge was a spacious cabin on a beautiful property. It's definitely creek side! The Hosts and the onsite manager were quick to respond even tho it was Thanksgiving.

Thanks so much! Such a treat hosting you and would love to welcome you back again very soon.
This was a great house for our family vacation! It was a bit remote but that was expected. Great if you want to be out of neighborhoods and in the middle of nature.

Thanks so much, Angela. It's such a joy to welcome families out the the Creekside Lodge at Huffman Creek Retreat. Hope we can welcome you all back again in the future.
This is a beautiful creekside cabin/house that is very spacious and beautifully situated. Hiking, splashing, walking, swimming, lots of fishing, reading to the sound of the cascading water and more for a very relaxing vacation. The hikes are rather strenuous, but all participated - ages 11 to 78. The kitchen is well equipped and lots of space. Kali was very responsive to our requests and the firewood bundle is large and well worth it. We plan on returning.
Great place to relax and unwind with the sound of the creek right out the back door. Very clean and accommodating cabin. Gravel road access was not hard to navigate on motorcycles if you take your time and enjoy the landscape.

Thanks so much, Richard. I think you stated it just perfectly. As long as you take your time and enjoy the view, there's no problem at all to bring along your motorcycle. That said, for any guests who may be reading this review, please do let us know if you will be traveling by motorcycle so we can prepare in advance if you need trailer parking of would like to discuss any specifics.
Spent the weekend here with my in-laws and all our kids and had a wonderful stay! The cabin is remote and well off the beaten path, which is exactly what we were looking for! Spacious and clean with plenty of hiking trails, and opportunities to play outdoors. Overall, a wonderful weekend!

Thanks, Mark! So glad you all enjoyed. Safe travels and we'll see you soon.
The cabin was absolutely perfect. You can tell the owners put a lot of care into the Creekside Lodge. We were here on a fishing trip so the cabin was more like a base camp for us. We enjoyed coming back every night and relaxing after a long day of fishing. We are looking forward to coming back again.

Thanks, John! Hope to welcome you back again soon. Be sure to remind us that you're here for fishing and we can connect you with a great local guide if you want to explore Santeetlah or the Snowbird Backcountry. Both are great spots but very different fishing styles.
We had a wonderful time at the cabin for our first Christmas in the mountains! Too cold to do any exploration but the fireplace was cozy and we had games to keep us busy. Had no internet or phone service except for a couple of spots. Other than that, very nice and beautiful place to be! Everyone we met while we stayed (including hosts) were awesome! Shout out to Kenny on the property and Rob one of the neighbors who helped us get my dad’s truck started after it froze! We appreciate them so much! We will definitely book this place again in the future!!

Thanks so much for the kind review, Clarissa! We're very excited to now offer WiFi over Starlink - a very fast and reliable offering. Hope to welcome you back again soon.
What a wondertel 4 days here for my sons wedding. We were here in the fall and this is the most beautiful place to be for the fall foliage. This location is very quiet and peaceful. The house fits right in with nature. It was beautiful inside and out. Inside there is plenty of space. We had 13 people and a dog and there was plenty of space for everyone! Kitchen is well stocked with everything you would need to cook. Just don’t forget to stop at the grocery store and have your groceries before you get to the house because it’s a good ways back to the store. We loved hanging out on the deck and enjoying the view and the sound of the creek. There is a fire pit and hammock. We enjoyed all of our walks around the property. Can’t wait to come back here again! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Thanks so much, Sarah! We can't wait to welcome you all back and hope to be a part of an ongoing tradition. Congratulations on the wedding!
PROS: Once you find the home, it's the kind of place you would never leave. If you love to hike (and I do mean hike) then this is your place. Small plane crash hike is a must BUT it is very challenging. Great sitting around either fire pit outside or fireplace inside. Plenty of space for 9 adults/2 kids/3 dogs. The creek outside is spectacular! Full-sized w/d.
CONS: I would have liked more "extras" to be included such as some fire wood, Christmas decor, etc. without it costing more given the total price. Take your garbage into town (there's a drop off) or its $35 per bag that don't fit into cans (there are 2 regular-sized cans). Right after Christmas and cooking for all the family was a challenge to get into 2 cans. Thank goodness we made friends with the garbage man. Town is about 35 mins away (great Ace hardware and grocery store). It would have been nice to have some area information at the home (restaurants, must-sees, etc.) Everything we discovered was from the guest book (hard to preplan) or google.
All and all, you want remote mountainous home - this is it!

Thanks so much, Susan! It was wonderful hosting you all for the holiday. The request regarding trash is to prevent critters from gathering. We collect the trash regularly during our guest's stay but upon departure, we do ask that you not pile trash up beside the cans. You can always reach out to us if you feel you'll have quite a bit extra and we can help facilitate a donation to the food bank in town. Hope that doesn't prevent you all from returning in the future. We'll be more clear with our guests about the trash policy moving forward.

Disappointment for sure!!
This cabin is located in remote mountains of NC. No cell service at this location. The owners would not send the door access code/house details until 2:11 pm on the day of our 4:00 check in. During our entire travel to the location, we were not even sure we'd get into the place after repeated requests for them to send the door code. You are a good 30 minutes from any town at this house. The final 15 minutes on a dirt road to access the house is very narrow. If you are hauling a trailer with motorcycles or boat, this is not the location as you have to cross 2 wooden bridges to get to the location. This is a great thing to tell people BEFORE they choose this house. The poor people that show up after dark are out of luck.
THEN, once we got the door code/house details, it said the renters are required to strip the sheets from all beds and start the first load of towels upon leaving. I was on vacation and very angry to read they wanted me to start the wash before leaving.
Learning that this house is located in a dry county with no alcohol available anywhere in the county should have been mentioned days before our check in. Very aggravating. We were so disappointed with the lack of communication and house details, we turned around and drove home.

Amy, thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. Our guests are of the utmost importance to us which is why we provide thorough instructions, a generous welcome package, a door code for simple entry, and turn-by-turn picture directions. It appears in this case you chose not to open and print the documents provided. While I do regret that you did not even enter the home, you were greeted in person by one of our staff members when you called and expressed concern. For those of you who may be reading this, I encourage you to please reach out, read the reviews of those who have visited since, and consider the enjoyable atmosphere of a remote mountain retreat.
After surviving hurricane Ian, this was the perfect get away while our home was being worked on. The melody of the stream can be heard throughout the entire home.

It was wonderful to welcome you for a getaway from the storm. Glad you were able to join us and disconnect for a bit.
WOW. The cabin is secluded, gorgeous inside and out, and well equipped. Beds are comfortable and furniture is cozy. The many streams and trails are fun to explore. The Wi-Fi was spotty at best, but the owners are aware and working on a new provider. The only thing I would recommend to make the house perfect is adding some outdoor seating on the deck overlooking the creek. It was one of our favorite places to gather, with the rushing creek sounds and beautiful mountain wilderness views. However, there was only a bench against the house for sitting. As other renters have mentioned, the drive to the cabin is an adventure in itself! Also, one bit of advice for future renters: when using the hammock make sure you have bug spray on…😊

Top notch, first class accommodations, along side a creek, back in the woods. The Turner family has been doing this for years and their experience shows. We had one service issue, Frank was attentive and timely.
Don't hesitate on this property - they go fast for a reason.

Loved everything about our stay. It was even more beautiful than pictures show. But do be careful getting there. And bring everything with you because it's 40 minutes to the grocery store. But it was exactly what we were looking for. Our 5 adults and 5 kids had a blast exploring the woods, roasting marshmallows and playing games.
Wish I could box our whole experience here and take it home!!
Our experience started with an exhilarating drive up the mountain (30 minutes from the Ingles to the house) to our stunning rental property!! We rented the Creekside Lodge for a family vacation, ages ranging from 18 to 74 years young. There were 8 of us that comfortably shared this beautiful space. We enjoyed home cooked meals at the big round table. We hiked up to the plane crash. Which was amazing to see and the views were simply stunning!! We indulged in s’mores by the fire pit. And part of our group even played in the creek!! Don’t forget your water shoes!! We won’t forget the amazing, constant sound of the creek! Wish I could have taken that back!! We will forever remember this beautiful location!! And we can’t wait to return!! Thank you!! Jean and Steph

Great property west of Robbinsville and 30 min from Lake Santeetlah, Fontana area, Joyce Kilmer, and Cherohala Skyway. We comfortably fit 4 adults and 3 children with extra bedrooms to spare. The cabin was clean, comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. Host and property manager were both very responsive. Great cabin in a beautiful, remote area if that is what you are looking for.

We were a family of 10, ranging in age from 16 months to 67 years and this property was perfect for us. We all played in the stream most every day and used the fire pit every night. The furnishings were very comfortable as were the beds. Wish the Wi-Fi had been better but it’s very secluded up there so no surprise that Wi-Fi was slow. No big deal. People have commented snout the road to the house. We found it no problem during the day but I wouldn’t want to travel it at night. Lots of potholes do go slowly and be careful. The directions from the owner were great. Only thing I’d add was the convenience store is a Sunoco. You can’t see the name of it before you get to it so just look for the Sunoco and turn left. I highly recommend this house for a quiet time for family. We visited the casino in Cherokee (about 2 hours away) and went whitewater rarfting in Ocoee with Ocoee River Outpost (again, 2 hours away) and had a blast! We’d come back in a minute!
We enjoyed our stay at Creekside Lodge. If you are looking for peace, quite, relaxation and enjoying nature, this is the place to go! Hiking trails, looking for crawdads in the creek and salamanders, etc., the kids and 1 big kid had a great time doing just that! Enjoying listening to the running water of the creek while sitting out on the deck was awesome. The only downside... the drive to get there. If you get car sick, take a lot of Dramamine. Twist, turns, up and down for miles. Takes along time to get back in there from Robbinsville. Stock up on food and necessities and stay in! We had a great time!

About the host
Hosted by Hunter Turner
Since 1986 the Turner family has been escaping to the mountains of Robbinsville, North Carolina to reconnect with nature, explore, and of course create lifelong memories with our family. We have hiked every trail, taught our two boys to fish here, and shared endless gatherings with family and friends. Every season offers an exciting new set of adventures and scenery. The winter snow, spring wild flowers, summer trout, and fall leaves are just the beginning of what you can expect to find. We invite you to come create memories, share new adventures, and take in the sights and sounds of this nature escape.
Why they chose this property
After vacationing here as a child in the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, we knew this was an experience we wanted to share with our children. Over the years, we searched for the perfect mountain home only to create our own private escape of several residences. Today we own seven luxury mountain homes at Huffman Creek Retreat in Robbinsville and look forward to sharing them with you, your family, and friends. The cabins can be rented individually or as a full-property, exclusive experience. With nearly 1,000 acres to explore, we can't wait to welcome you.
What makes this property unique
When you arrive at the Creekside Lodge on Huffman Creek, it may take you a few minutes to unwind. Grab your favorite book, head to the porch, hammock, or stream, and prepare for a trip of pure relaxation. Our favorite thing to do is prepare a 'breakfast extravaganza' each morning for the few early risers in the bunch. Prepare a pile of pancakes for those morning lovers and let the rest stay snuggled in bed. Best of all, by the time those morning lovers wrap up, the rest of us are about ready for a day of hiking, exploring, and sometimes napping. It's just the right size home to offer a good combination of gathering spaces and privacy.
