OCEANVIEW Rodanthe - Mirlo Beach - Located on the soundside of Hwy 12, just one lot back from the ocean with easy beach access and four levels of decks with ample wooden deck furniture. Set sail for your Hatteras Island vacation at SKIPPER'S GIG. Captains and mates alike will feel at home by the water with community beach and sound access and great ocean and sound views from every level of the home. Enjoy a dip in the pool or sunken hot tub, or challenge the crew to foosball in the game room with wet bar with refrigerator and microwave. There is also a bedroom with two twin beds and semi-private bath. When the ocean adventures are done, climb up to the mid-level and take a nap in one of the four bedrooms: a king master, a queen master, and two queen bedrooms. On the top level, you'll discover expansive water views from the spacious great room. The crew's cook will enjoy the kitchen with an island for extra seating, and everyone will enjoy the living area with TV/DVD and comfortable furnishings. Also on this level is a king master bedroom. For a little privacy and a bird's eye view, climb up to the captain's watch with private reading area and private deck. You're sure to want to drop anchor and stay another week at SKIPPER'S GIG. (Fireplace seen in pictures is not available for guest use.)

New for 2025: Bunk bedroom will be converted to a queen bedroom with all new furniture.

First, let me say we had a great time, and the house was very accommodating despite having a million steps and no elevator. The house was clean but needed an extreme makeover. We joked that the house was painted by a sixth grader because the only goal was to get it done. The owner needs to spend some money to update the unit. The pool was great, and the property had easy access to the beach. I would rent this again.

Great family spot

The location of this home is perfect. Views of both the ocean and the sound. A short walk to the beach without huge dunes to cross. The neighborhood was quiet and lovely. It was so nice to have space between the homes and not feel like everyone was on top of each other. The home was clean and the kitchen was well stocked. We also found the layout great for a family with kids and grandparents. The pool is a great size and not terribly deep which is perfect for younger kids. In the afternoon however there is zero shade in the pool area. (Bring tents!) Also as mentioned in other reviews, the grill is entirely too small for this size of house. Overall, an amazing time. We’ve rented again for next year.

Overall the place wasn’t bad.

I have a 3 out of 5 for cleanliness ( I help clean summer homes around the lake for my friends business as a side job as needed so I feel I may have higher expectations) . There were cigarette butts all over by the grill next to the pool, inside there were bugs on the ceiling, one of the bathroom ceiling fans has mold around it. The place could use updates. The TVs in the bedrooms did not work. My mom is huge into the Olympics so this really bothered her. I contacted surf and sound realty, they replied with that a maintenance order was placed but nothing was done. I feel overall the place was good. Pool was a hit with the kids and it was clean. My family had a good time. And the location is great. But likely won’t return to this house.

Post COVID family Reunion

Our extended family hadn’t seen each other since January 2020 so we were determined to find a Covid safe location for the family. Great common space for gathering. We’ll stocked kitchen, and lovely pool. The house seems to have a issue with water. It smelled a bit wet on the bottom two levels and when we had a hard day of rain we understood why. The sliding doors and windows are not air tight and the water poured in. Especially on the back lower and middle floor. Also, though the kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots and pans, the cabinets, cupboards needed some cleaning. I would say generally this location lacked attention to detailed cleaning. We had a lot to celebrate so ignored those issues but I don’t think we would return to the same property again.

Needs a little work

Check in was between 4pm and 6pm. We got there around 5:30pm and they were still cleaning the house. We decided to go get gas and eat so we tried to get directions and recommendations from the cleaning crew but they wouldn't even acknowledge us. It has great views from the balconies and is in a great location. It is a little run down and needs some work. Some of the screen sliding doors stick badly. Definitely needs a bigger or additional grill. This house can sleep 16 people and the grill is enough for maybe four people to eat unless you want to stand in front of the grill for hours to cook for 16 people. It rained one day so we decided to fix food in the oven. The oven door doesn't stay shut. I put in a call two days after our arrival date about it. No one answered so I left a message. Never heard anything from anyone. Beds were super comfy. Place was very clean and they gave us fresh daisy flowers in a cup on the dining room table. Love that it had a washer and dryer and two refrigerators.

Amazing Family Vacation and Great Location

Our family was looking for a relaxing vacation and that is exactly what we got! It was the perfect location and the pool and hot tub was a great addition. We had an absolute blast! We would definitely have rebooked this home for next year, but we have more people coming so we unfortunately need an even bigger place. This was totally worth the money spent and our family had an absolutely amazing time during our week stay! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice, relaxing stay with a great location between site and sound!
