Not only does the many picturesque seaside towns beckon tourists to the ocean side there are many rivers and lakes that are charming and worth exploring. Hobos Pond Get Away is a comfortable, safe and quiet place to enjoy this amazing island. Hobos Pond Get Away is located at the edge of the wilderness but close to all modern amenities. We are just a few minutes by car from the spectacular Englishman River Falls Park.

Our well-appointed cottage is located on a five-acre property that fronts onto the beautiful Englishman River. Situated on a bluff above the river our large deck offers our guests a view of the river. From this high deck our guests view the river through a forest of lush ferns and evergreens. A hiking trail from the cottage takes guests to the Englishman River. Minutes from the cottage hikers are able to access a trail that enter a Nature Trust Park where you can enjoy beautiful vistas, small waterfalls and clean clear pools to swim. The Nature Trust Park hike will come out at Top Bridge Regional Park with its many unusual pot holes and a beautiful suspension bridge. This park can be accessed from a hike from our cottage or from Parksville as well. There is a parking lot if you arrive by car.
Parksville is mid island on Vancouver Island. From the picturesque seaside town of Parksville it takes about 20 minutes to arrive at Hobos Pond. It is a scenic drive through farms and fields to arrive at Hobos Pond Get Away. Many residents in this area have small horse farms.
The Hobo cottage is on five acres and shares the space with the main house. There is enough distance between dwellings to ensure privacy.
Guests can visit Parksville and Qualicum Beach where art galleries, quaint shops and restaurants abound.
The weather here in this area is mild and sometimes quite hot during the summer and fall seasons. Spring and fall can be a bit rainy.
Quick drives get guests to many delightful places on the mid island. Visit French Creek Marina. Guests can see the large fishing vessels who still ply the waters off our island. The French Creek Pub is a good place for Fish and Chips. At the end of the pier you can buy fresh seafood. A quick trip to Goats on the Roof Market in Coombs is vibrant with tourists from all over the world. Here you can enjoy restaurants, big ice cream cones and a market with fresh fruit, vegetables and gifts. Real goats live on the roof top of the Market. Cuckoos Restaurant located at the Goats on the Roof Market site is a very beautiful place to enjoy good food within an elegant, natural and beautiful setting.
Gluten free guests can get GF goodies from a bakery in Qualicum. Qualicum Beach is such a beautiful little town and a drive along the ocean is a great place to park and enjoy a safe seawall for a good walk. Many seals pop their heads out of the water to say hello to walkers!
Guests who like to prepare their own food in our fully functional cottage kitchen can visit the Saturday morning Errington Market, a local farmers market with a rich selection of locally grown veggies as well as locally handcrafted gifts. This market is about an 8-minute drive from our cottage. Also nearby is the Unicorn farm market that offers delicious local meat and sausages, products sourced from local farmers.
During the summer months enjoy live music and concerts by the sea in the seaside park in downtown Parksville.
Explore Nanoose. Turn at the Petro Can gas station on the Island Highway to enjoy a drive through Fairwinds and Nanoose. Beautiful homes dot the rugged old coastal highway. A marina and an upscale restaurant are open most days during the summer season. This beautiful Marina is a safe harbour for leisure craft. The Fairwinds Golf course encourages guests to play golf. We strongly encourage our Hobo guests to visit Moorecroft Park Seaside Park located in the Nanoose area. It is a very great place to enjoy a picnic in a stunningly beautiful ocean side park. It has pathways that are safe for seniors and youngsters alike!
For guests who don't hike or swim and just want to relax at our cottage can enjoy our large very private deck. It is a good place to hang out and enjoy a barbecue. This is a peaceful and relaxing place to unwind from the bustle of city life. It is private enough for yoga, star gazing during warm weather or put up an easel and paint a picture. You can barbecue that fish you bought or caught at French Creek!
Day trips include favourite destinations such as a drive to Tofino on the West Coast or drive to Port Alberni for fish and chips at the main Wharf. Day trips to the seaside towns on the East side of the island Comox and Campbell River along the old highway are worth taking the time to visit. And you might have time to go to Quadra Island. This is a ten-minute ferry trip leaving from the Quay in Campbell River. On Quadra Island have a beer and or lunch at the very old pub in Heriot Bay.
Or take day trips to some of the outer islands like Denman and/or Hornby Island. Beware of the ferry schedule. Make sure you know when the last ferries leave the island. You need to coordinate Hornby Island ferries and the Denman Island ferry to ensure you make the last ferry off of Denman to Vancouver Island. Or you will have to spend the night on Denman. It happened to us!
A five-minute car trip from our cottage takes guests to the beautiful Englishman River Falls Provincial Park with its glorious waterfall and bridges and easy hiking trails. There are places to dive into deep, green pools and some shallow pools for children to swim.
Hobos Pond cottage can host four and/or six guests comfortably. Ask the hosts if you wish to add additional guests.
The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with a washer and dryer. The living room has two leather loungers, a comfy chesterfield, and a TV where guests can watch Roku movies. The cottage has 3 queen size beds.
The cottage is equipped with cable and high-speed internet suitable for guests who want to work while relaxing at Hobos Pond. The cottage is an open concept but provides privacy for all our guests.
This comfortable and charming cottage shares the property with our main house but is situated far enough away to provide guests with privacy.
A very sturdy oak staircase leads to the sleeping loft. The main floor has a full bathroom with a shower and a jet bathtub and the loft has a toilet and sink so the upstairs guests don't need to take the staircase to use the bathroom during the night.
Everyone is welcome from all over the world. We invite people to come and explore this magical island. Hike, swim, do yoga, forest bathe or star gaze. Make this a romantic get away, a family reunion or a girl's get away. Make this a short visit or ask us about our long term stay.
This property has some dangers like a large pond and a big drop off to the river in one area which makes this property unsuitable for small children. So we only welcome guests over the age of 12 who can enjoy the property unsupervised.
