Lovely family vacation in a well appointed home. The kitchen is well stocked which made family meals very easy. Lots of space for the family to spread out. The screened in porch is fabulous! Would highly recommend.
As a long-time visitor to the Berkshires, Rachel's house was one of the loveliest places we've ever stayed. A beautiful, classic farmhouse, it's been updated but retains its historic charm. Attractively decorated with antiques, it still feels comfortable and modern. It's set in the gorgeous landscape of Tyringham, arguably one of the prettiest parts of the Berkshires, and the house is situated among historic barns and farmland, with rolling hills in the distance (you can watch the mist coming in the morning from the screened-in porch as you drink your coffee). Rachel is lovely and so easy to deal with. We're so lucky we found it and we're already looking forward to coming back.
This was our third stay in this wonderful property, and the fall foliage was amazing. This is a secluded and peaceful home, ideal for a family stay. The home is warn and welcoming, just a wonderful place to relax and unwind from the pressures of daily life.
My family and I loved our stay in Tyringham. Rachel was the perfect host. We loved meeting her and learning about the history of the property and her family. The house was beautifully decorated and clean, and an excellent collection of literature was scattered throughout. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed. Nearby, we spent many hours at Shaker Pond canoeing to the beaver dens, swimming and fishing. My 4 year-old niece loved playing at the sandy shore. The Cobble is a great hike that intersects with the AT. Tyringham is a quiet residential town so be prepared to drive to the market and restaurants.
My family and I had a wonderful stay in this lovely home on a stunning property this Winter. There were 5 of us, 4 adults and 1 child. What we loved about this place, aside from the beautiful home and gorgeous Berkshire landscape, were the two living areas that allowed us to branch out or come together when we wanted to. We had an additional 2 family members come to visit for two nights and everyone was comfortable. This house is in the country, yet close to towns, restaurants and skiing. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you to Rachel for her responsiveness and a lovely stay.
A wonderful week in this beautiful farm house. Spellbinding views, peace and quiet made this one of the most relaxing vacations ever. A short walk brings you to a private swimming pond. The house is perfectly furnished, with plenty of room for a large group. Five bedrooms and three baths provide plenty of space, along with two living rooms and my personal favorite, a large screened porch.
We will be back.
Stunning location! Rachel is a superb host. The house is perfect. I especially loved the screened-in porch!

Hi Sara—I just wanted to thank you so much for your lovely review. It makes such a difference. If I am lucky, I’ll only get tenants like you! You left the house so beautifully pulled together. That makes a huge difference, too! Have a wonderful rest of the summer.
All best,
Rachel
Our family just returned from a week-long stay at Rachel's beautiful Tyringham home and our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. From its picturesque mountain views to its private swimming pond, the property is the perfect place to unwind and recharge.
The farmhouse is spacious, charming, and elegantly furnished, and it had everything we needed to accommodate our family, including a fully equipped kitchen. We spent our days exploring the idyllic countryside surroundings, and swimming and fishing in the pond around the corner from the house. (The pond has a soft-sand beach and loads of beach toys for kids and a kayak and paddle board for adults.) In the evenings, the large, screened-in porch was the perfect place for family dinners and stargazing. There's even a smart TV if you need it, though our kids barely used it--they were much more interested in watching the cows from the nearby dairy farm eat their dinner in the field across from the house!
The location was perfect. The property feels quiet and secluded but it's just around the corner from several hiking trails, a great playground for the kids, and about a 10-minute drive from a major grocery store, liquor store, gas station, and the highway, as well as a short drive to Great Barrington, Stockbridge, etc.
Rachel and John were exceptional hosts--kind and extremely responsive when we needed anything. They made us feel right at home. We highly recommend their lovely property to anyone looking for a bucolic country holiday. We hope to return soon!

Beautiful farmhouse
Just came back from 4 days at Rachel’s house. A beautiful place. Decorated with such good taste and with all the amenities we needed to get away from NYC and go skiing at Butternut - only 20 min away. The 2 living rooms downstairs offer a great setup for when kids go to sleep and you dont want to wake them up. Im sure the porch and sunroom are very enjoyable in the spring and summer! Rachel was very responsive for anything we needed. We look fwd to coming back soon

About the host
Hosted by Rachel
My family owns this house and has lived in Tyringham for four generations. Although all personal items have been removed, the house has all the comfort and warmth of a family home. We occupy houses up and down the road and are always on hand to help make your experience as wonderful as possible. We are writers, journalists, lawyers, development consultants, interior designers, architects, entrepreneurs, actors and students.
Why they chose this property
My grandfather bought this property--and several of the surrounding houses and fields--in the 1930s and started a dairy farm. He chose the Berkshire hills because of their beauty and seclusion. In the decades since he came to the Tyringham valley, my family has occupied the land with the same appreciation. It is a timeless place--one of the few left in the area--and thus highly unique.
What makes this property unique
This bright, cheerful house has been a beloved family home, charmingly decorated and scrupulously cared for for as long as we have lived here. It has a genuine old-fashioned country atmosphere--without feeling over-stuffed or musty--and is designed to both bring people together and allow for peace and privacy, with lots of nooks in which to work in peace or curl up with a good book. It is fully appointed and spotlessly clean. Charm and comfort inside; natural beauty outside. Cows in the fields; books on the shelves. Connected via internet and phone; yet a million miles away from the stresses of modern life.
