Villa 'Joie de Vie' is a privately owned, 3 BR, fully air conditioned, detached villa with privacy walls and fences, private pool, outdoor shower/rinsing, and sunbathing areas, (no clothes, no problem!) and just steps from Orient beach. It is 'at grade' which means there are no stairs to climb, and 3 private parking spaces are at the entrance. Very handicap and child friendly. There are 2 king bedrooms which share one double sink- full bathroom. One queen bedroom with sliders adjacent to pool, and with semi-private full bathroom. Additionally, there is a powder room just off the living room area. Furnishings are mostly wood, and very high quality. There is a full kitchen with numerous amenities, and table/bar seating for eight. Also, there is wireless internet access and 120 volt recharging power strips for your convenience in this 220 volt region of the island. A safe for your valuables is also included. This villa is in the heart of the Baie Orientale community which has 24 hour security for added safety. Additionally, this community is gated with manned security at night. There are about 20 restaurants all within walking distance of the villa, and in all price ranges.

Nice house - 1/2 block to beach & less than 10 minute walk to town

Three couples - so 2 king & 1 queen bed good! A/C worked great. Had private pool too .. could use few more towels. And more details on kitchen amenities. Manager did not send exact location til arrival day which was somewhat difficult - but he was there to welcome us / and met provisions shop too Overall Very happy - would stay again

Joie de Vie, Indeed!! 💙

We (fam of 7 with mostly adult children) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this home, just 2 blocks from the beach and perfect for relaxing and making memories. Having our own private pool was fantastic and refreshing, and the small kitchen saved us a few bucks by giving us the ability to cook simple meals. The accomodations aren't luxurious; they are very comfortable and welcoming. Mid week maid service was helpful. We would love to return.

Caribbean Paradise

My husband and I have been using this villa for the last three years and we love this place, so much so that we feel as if it is our home away from home. The villa is very comfortable and has all the amenities that we would expect from a well run rental villa. We love that it is located so close to the beach and that it has a deep, freshwater pool...so nice to come back to after a long day at the beach. The owners are very generous in opening their home and we are so thankful that we found this little piece of paradise. We have been coming to St. Martin for a little over 13 years and have stayed in hotels and rented other villas but Joie de Vie has captured our hearts and we hope to spend many more vacations in this lovely villa.

A Once-Beloved Gem That’s Lost Its Sparkle

Villa Joie de Vie was our cherished retreat in St. Martin, a magical place near Orient Beach filled with fond memories. Unfortunately, our latest visit fell short of expectations, and I pen this review from a place of disappointment and hope for change. Upon our arrival, one bedroom was unmade, and its air conditioning was malfunctioning. Thankfully, our fourth guest wasn’t due for two days, and Henri, the property manager, assured us it would be fixed. We remained hopeful. However, it soon became apparent that the property was not maintained to its former standard. We found loose screws on the floor, broken furniture like a recliner and uneven bar stools, and unclean kitchen and bathroom conditions—food residue everywhere, unfunctioning drawers, and crumbs on the phone. The electric storm shutters, which we depended on for security, failed during a rainstorm, leaving us locked out when the power went out and the generator was empty. To his credit, Henri tried to help, albeit while sick. Nevertheless, when we managed to re-enter, we found the villa infested with insects, particularly in the kitchen. Given our elderly family member’s presence, including my mother, who was celebrating her 75th birthday, we decided to leave. Meeting with Henri the next day was disappointing; he was dismissive about our concerns, refusing a refund and making us feel gaslit. We sought assistance from the owner, Dan, who initially promised a resolution but then went silent. We hope he is ok...

Wow! What a great week! ...

Wow! What a great week! This is a very nice and comfortable place within steps of fabulous Orient Beach, but far enough away to have some peace and quiet when needed. Having our own pool was a nice plus. The pool was well maintained and very private. We stayed here with another couple and had lots of extra room. Three couples could share this place comfortably. The reclining chairs on the patio were a hit -- very popular for lounging by the pool. A short walk brings you to a small village with excellent restaurants, live music several nights a week, and a small grocery store that had everything we needed. The maid service was good. The rental agents were very helpful once we arrived. Stephane was Johnny-on-the-spot with jumper cables when our car battery died. That's a level of service well beyond what one would expect. (Don't rent a car from U-Save. We had to deal with two flat tires also.) The neighborhood is good by Caribbean standards. It's not a luxury resort with manicured lawns and fresh paint everywhere. It's more casual and comfortable. There is some faded paint, some dead and untended landscaping, and some streetlights out. The people we met were friendly, and we never felt unsafe walking at night. The wireless internet worked flawlessly. The 110 volt power strip was great for recharging cameras, the computer, and an international cell phone we had. It's just one of many thoughtful extras that the owners provided to ensure guests' comfort. The blender got a lot of use -- happy hour marguaritas by the pool! One thing that's included is the use of beach chairs and umbrellas at La Playa on the beach. Most beach restaurants charge about $8 a chair, so that saved $32 a day for the four of us. It's just another of those toughtful extras. The only small negative thing I could say is that we never got directions or much help at all from the rental agents before we arrived. We found our own way there by finding Cap Caraibes on the web. You might have to do the same. The price is very good for what this villa offers. Paying in US dollars instead of euros helped also. We recommend Joie de Vie. Whenever we return to St. Martin, we will definitiely try to stay here.

Villa is absolutely terrific -- comfortable, quiet and peaceful inside and out. Everything that you could possibly want and more. Wonderful location as well -- very short walk to beach and to Orient Village. We are very grateful for the opportunity to stay at the Villa and look forward to returning in the near future.

Wonderful location

What a wonderful villa in a wonderful location. You are within a three minute walk from Orient Beach. The villa is wonderful for four adults or a family with children. The pool is refreshing and the yard wonderfully kept. We had an issue that Magali, the property manager, took care of within an hour. We had a wonderful stay!

Very nice home just a block behind beautiful Orient Beach

We loved the layout of the villa and short of being right on the beach you can't beat the location. You really seen no signs of damage from Irma in the home so have no fear in renting here. There were a couple of hiccups with the hurricane shutter during our stay but Magali, the property manager jumped on fixing everything right away. We were on the go a lot and didn't spend much time in the villa, but when we did we had everything we needed. We never cooked but we found what we needed in the kitchen. The furnishing are decent but not super fancy. They are just fine for a vacation home to us. The WIFI was not the most reliable. Currently the villa only has cellular WIFI and it really only worked out on the patio. If that is a big deal to you, it could be a point of frustration. That may also change as the island continues to rebuild from Irma. Our group of teenager girls enjoyed playing in the pool at night. We woke every morning to take a quick 5 minute walk to beach for sunrise. (I miss that already) Orient Beach has come back in full operation since our stay last February. It was great to have good restaurants and beach service just a few minutes away from the villa. The square is also full of amenities - breakfast cafe/bakery, groceries, wine/liquor, and restaurants for dining in the evenings too. All of that is just a 10-15 walk away. We would rent here again without hesitation.

Great location with easy (2 blocks) beach and village access. Quiet street in nice area. House is lovely after Irma repairs, with nice sitting area and private pool. Only issue is internet wasn't working, but they are working on getting that improved.

Wonderful place.

This villa is situated on a nice little street not far from the beach. The 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bath and nice fully equipped kitchen its a perfect setting for family or a group of friends. Once you go outside you walk into your own little oasis. Wonderful covered patio, and inground pool thats heaven to jump into after being out on,the beach all day. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to,stay on orient beach.

Paradise Villa

We have been renting this wonderful villa for many years and were so happy to hear that it survived Hurricane Irma! We love the privacy of the villa and now with the new fencing and walls it feels just as private if not even more so. Besides the villa's location within a short walk of the beach, our favorite part of the house is the deep, freshwater pool. We are thankful to be able to once again rent this wonderful villa...many thanks to Dan and Nancy for investing in this little piece of paradise and keeping up with it over the years. Thanks also to the owner's agent, Magali, who is very attentive and efficient in helping make our vacation a great one!

A gem

We just got back from St-Martin and stayed at the Villa Joie de Vie. This house was great! It was spacious, clean and had all the amenities anyone can ask for. The beach was steps away and the pool was as you see in the pictures. It would have been an added bonus if the pool was heated! We were very happy with our stay and Magalie from the rental company was very helpful and available. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and would go back!

Five Run Away to Saint Martin

Five retired friends had lots of room in this pleasant villa only minutes walking along a leafy path to Beach La Playa on Orient Bay.The location is certainly a big plus.The villa's well-maintained pool is lovely.We enjoyed eating at the excellent restaurants in "the village" only 5 minutes walk away as well as beside the villa's pool under the veranda.The owner's agents in Saint Martin are very helpful and will answer any and all questions and deal promptly with any concerns.

Our recent trip to St Martian Villa Joie De Vie

Everything was good upon our arrival . After unpacking we decided to go tothe market for groceries . We put down the electric metal "roll up" doors. Upon our return all the electricity on our side of the island had go out . we could not get into the home for many hours ,and most of the food spoiled do to the heat. The front yard needs to be upgraded and the "Green canvas cover" between the next house and yours looks very out of place .A new fence would go a long way towards upgrading the yard . The inside was good and worked well for all of us . THE SAFE BOLTED TO THE FLOOR UNDER THE SINK IN THE SMALL WATER CLOSET IS THE THE DUMBEST IDEA I HAVE EVER SEEN . ITS A REAL HEAD KNOCKER WHEN YOU GET UP . This would not work for someone who has a disability.

Dan..thanks for sharing your place. When we arrived we tried to call the management company but their phone was broken but we did get in touch with them relatively quickly as we have dealt with them in the past. We drove quickly to the villa and had a brief tour of the essentials as we are familiar with the area. The villa is very well maintained and has a big block of 110Volt outlets so you can charge everything near the kitchen. It also has wireless internet and satellite TV in the living room. The rest of the unit has the normal 220 volt outlets so you will need converter in those rooms if you want to charge anything in those rooms or need to plug anything in there. The rooms with the two kings share one bathroom and the room with the queen has a bathroom right outside it's door. The living room has a large hurricane shutter you can shut at night for security as well as the shutter in the queen bedroom. The area felt very safe and people live on both sides of you. The mosquito's where biting when we where there so be careful at dawn. Be sure that the management company turns the water on. We had to call them back as there was no water! Be sure to try Le Peminent in Orient village it is AWESOME.

Wonderful Time

Our stay at Joie de Vie was Wonderful! Once we arrived we called and were escorted to Joie de Vie. We had to call the next day to get hot water but that was not a big deal. No TV for the week. No problem because the wifi worked great so we could keep up. It was nice to have all the amenities (Full Fridge, Coffee maker, Microwave,Stove with hot plate etc.) The pool was well maintained as was the interior. Maid service was there mid week and Saturday. Joie de Vie is the perfect place to relax and enjoy life. The walk to the beach is very short. Thank you Dan for sharing your Wonderful Home with us!

Probably the best vacation EVER!!!

Unbelievable Vacation!!! The location was incredible. This was my 3rd time to St-Martin, but previously on cruises, and only for a day. I knew I had to get back and spend my time on this special island. The property had all of the necessary amenities needed (Satellite TV, Telephone, Washing Machine, and Kitchen) at least 10 restaurants within walking distance, along with grocery store and 2 or 3 other 'magasins' oh, helpful tip: refresh your academic years or take a French class if no one speaks French, (I'm American, don't worry) Lol - but I did , and it saved us and I had a BLAST speaking French for 10 days!!! The only down side, if there could be a downside, is: if you don't rent a car (we didn't and we were fine) you'll have to cab it everywhere, but there is no 'meter' in St. Martin and it's a flat per person ($9 US, I think?) charge, no matter how long it takes to get where you are going. We traveled by 4 times, round trip the entire 12 days there. The Villa was SUPER secure/safe in an INCREDIBLY safe neighborhood 60 steps from the beach...I would go back in an INSTANT.

A true Joy!

Joie de Vie is everything you would want from a VRBO rental. We rented this home for a week at the beginning of March 2012 and had a wonderful vacation. First, the location is perfect - steps from Orient Beach, 5 min walk to the square where there is a market and wonderful restaurants. The beach is beautiful, the people are nice, and English is understood everywhere. Just up the street is a large market where you can stock up on groceries (everything is naturally expensive on an island, bring your own spices). We made breakfast everyday there and a few dinners too as the kitchen is fully equipped. Grand Case and the amazing restaurants are minutes away by car. The home is perfect for two couples - two large king bedrooms plus a third room with a queen we didn't use, but will next time when we return with the kids! The home isn't fancy or opulent, just perfect cozy with an ideal location. The setting is so relaxed, a beautiful pool which was kept spotless and gorgeous patio. Mosquito candles / torches help keep the pesky buggers away, but bring some repellent for extra help here. The two and a half baths are nice, rooms are spacious, and overall this place is just a wonderful place for a adult or family getaway. The owner is very responsive to phone/email, and the property manager was there as scheduled to let us in and go over all the amenities as well as answer any questions during our stay. Wifi worked perfectly and was indispensable in getting maps of the island, Skype calls, etc. ACs worked great, everything was clean when we arrived, and the midweek cleaning ladies did a great job. The only downside of this property is having to leave on your final day. Truly one of the best vacations we've had and a great place to stay on Orient Beach. Definitely a "recommend".

EVERYTHING I WAS LOOKING FOR

I STAYED THERE WITH MY WIFE AND EVRTHING WAS JUST PERFECT. THIS WAS MY THIRD TRIP TO ST MARTEN, WE STAYED AT A HOTEL AND A STUDIO APARTMENT IN THE PAST. THIS WAS BY FAR THE BEST WAY TO GO. IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED. I STAYED AT OTHER RENTALS ALL OVER THE WORLD AND THIS ONE WAS THE BEST EQUIPED. THE POOL WAS CLEANED SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE WEEK AND THE MAID SERVICE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK WAS A NICE FEATURE. THE MANAGEMENT COMPANY COULD NOT BE ANY NICER. WHEN I RETURN TO THE ISLAND THIS VILLA WILL BE ON THE TOP OF MY LIST. THE OWNERS DID THINK OF EVERYTHING, AND I MEAN EVERYTHING TO MAKE OUR STAY ENJOYABLE. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BOOK THIS VILLA IF AVAILABLE, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED

I stayed at Joie de Vie f...

I stayed at Joie de Vie for 7 nites in June, with 4 of my best friends. The location is convenient to everywhere, and it was so nice to have the pool 5 steps out the door. The beds were comfy, and the outdoor table met our needs for cocktails and visiting. Any simple issues that came up were promptly addressed by the management company. I would love to be able to go back again and take my kids and grandkids. The only warning is that the pool is 5 ft deep thruout, so little ones would need to be watched closely!

Why they chose this property

We've been to most of the popular destinations in the Caribbean. Since first traveling to SXM in 1986 we loved it better than the others. The island was so beautiful it continually drew us back, so we bought here. Every time we return to the island we fall in love with it again!

What makes this property unique

It's nice knowing the beautiful soft white sand beach is a short stroll away, and the finest restaurants are in Grand Case, a 5 minute drive from the Villa. There are also no less than 20 restaurants with a complete variety of menus and price ranges within walking distance from the Villa.
