- Final thoughts for your consideration -

Thank you for considering our home for your vacation. We assume you are considering others, which in a sense represent our competition. We invite you to take into consideration:

A Brief History of our experience of San Pancho-

In 2000 San Francisco was a precious little fishing village with about 4000 Mexican citizens, most of whom had lived here for generations in relatively modest homes “in town.” It also had approximately 250 expats. All homes were built in “the old style,” which required lots of laborers and masons and stone workers, carpenters and iron workers, artists and painters.

In 2006 when we (Melissa and Bill) arrived, San Pancho still had about 4000 Mexicans and 250 expats. It also had one hotel, five restaurants, no internet, few houses for sale, and lots of parking spaces. In less than a week, we fell in love with the village. So, we bought land and began to design and build a home for our family – in “the old style.” It took three years.

Sometime in 2007 the area north of Puerto Vallarta was declared an Economic Development Zone and re-named the Riviera Nayarit. (The first EDZ was the Maya Riviera, extending south from Cancun). Economic Development Zones are advertised as a place for developers to come and invest. Eventually developers did come, bought property, and began to build, but in “a new style.”

The difference between the old style and the new was dramatized to me (William) one day. When “our men” were adding finishing touches to our home, we drove into town and for the first time, we saw a cement truck and a pumper blocking the road. They were pouring concrete for a house or hotel, a condo or apartment complex that would soon be completed and ready in a matter of months to bring the ROI (return on investment), that made San Pancho attractive to investors. Before long, our precious little fishing village became a bustling beach town. What does this history lesson mean for you as you consider where to rent?

Well, if you mostly want to go to the beach during the day and relish the nightlife in the evening– and do so for a super cheap price, and experience a cramped, pressured, loud version of San Pancho – it makes little sense to consider renting our home.

On the other hand, if you wonder what it might be like to stay in a gracious, expansive Mexican villa that was built in “the old style,” check us out. The Villa de Vistas is a home, built with love and care, with art, tile, and crafts sourced from all over Mexico.

San Pancho might be divided into three areas.
- The bustling “downtown.”
- The more sedate residential area of Costa Azul
- The Jungle Road

The Villa de Vista is located at the beginning of the Jungle Road. We delight in sharing this remarkable home. Many guests report that they can feel the love that went into it – from our workers, our craftsmen, and our family – and also from our staff that has kept our home looking like new. It has been a labor of love.

We hope you will rent from us. And CELEBRATE LIFE.

A note from Melissa and Bill Roberts:

We have lived most of our adult life in Middletown, Connecticut, where Melissa was a school social worker and Bill was a clergyman for the first half of his career and a consultant for the second half. In 1979 we built a home on Cape Cod for our family -- we have three sons.

The Cape House was very important to our family, but as the boys grew up, moved away, and had children of their own, we decided to sell that house and build a three-home complex in San Pancho to accommodate our expanded family as well as friends and other guests. La Casa Que Canta is the biggest of the three houses..

Why they chose this property

Why this property? That's an interesting story.

In 2006 two of our sons went on a surfing and a scouting trip to the west coast of Mexico, found their way to San Pancho, and immediately fell in love with the town and the beach. A month later we rearranged some travel plans and went to check it out for ourselves. Well, we also loved the place. The Mexicans were very friendly and also very proud of their charming town.

Equally important, the Americans and Canadians we met seemed to respect the local culture and value their relationships with the residents whose families, in some cases, had lived in San Pancho for over a hundred years. It seemed that this would be an ideal place to build a home for generations of our family.

We purchased this particular property with the hope, just the hope, that we might have a pretty good view of the ocean. As the construction progressed it became clearer and clearer that we would have not only 'a pretty good view,' but SPECTACULAR VIEWS of the ocean, the beach, the town (San Pancho), Sayulita in the distance, and, equally fantastic views of the jungle.... from many different locations in LA CASA QUE CANTA.

As you will see the property presented some challenges since it goes sharply downhill, but Melissa Roberts (with some assistance from three different architects) was able to change those challenges into opportunities, so that as you move from the upper level, where most guests go to see the setting sun (in the winter) or the pyro techniques of thunder and lightning (in the summer rainy season), all the way to the pool level you will find lots of special places for large gatherings or intimate conversations.

What makes this property unique

What are the truly unique benefits? What to say?

The stunning views from almost every place in La Casa.

The pool with its features that make is safe and fun for guests of all ages.

The gracious living room and dining room.

The distinctive bedrooms and baths -- each has its own character.

The arts and crafts.

The location -- far enough away from town to miss the noise, but not so far that, if you wish, you can walk back and forth.

The gardens designed by Melissa, a master gardener, and maintained by Rodrigo and Melissa.

Ahh, the staff -- Property Manager IRIS, Gardener/Handyman RODRIGO, and Caretaker NOEMY -- everyone talks about the excellent staff.

And then, forgive me if this seems hokey, but the most unique benefit is the LOVE with which LA CASA QUE CANTA was designed and built and is now maintained. You can see this love in the quality of the woodwork, the stone work, the tile work, and the selection of art objects for every room. You can feel this love when you gather around the dining room table and sense that, for some reason, you have an unusual level of intimacy in your conversation. You experience it when you go up to the top deck and watch the sun dip into the ocean. You can immerse yourself in that love when you crawl into bed and listen to the pounding of the surf and the rustling of the leaves. And then when you wake up in the morning, you will experience a sense of well-being as you get your coffee and welcome the gift of another day in the glorious sunshine and this amazing home.

In La Casa you will find a book which explains, in part, why you have this feeling. The book is called MELISSA'S MEXICAN MASTERPIECE. It seeks to communicate her incredible visual-spatial intelligence that functions at levels (mostly unconscious) where she has found the ways to create spaces and vistas and color combinations that enable us to enjoy and even CELEBRATE LIFE..
