About this property
Quaint, Romantic Mountain Antique Log Cabin near Asheville!
Spring has arrived! The Dogwoods are blooming, the trees are sprouting their new greenery, and the wild turkeys are a-courting! Make plans now to visit the Western North Carolina mountains where there's so much to do! Come enjoy cool days, crisp evenings, long-range views, hiking, breweries, arts/crafts galleries, antique stores and much more! Log Gap Cabin could be that perfect 'base camp' for your visit - a lodging option that offers awesome spring-time views, privacy, the 'peace and quiet' of nature, wildlife sightings, and plenty of space to simply 'be'. Don't wait - go ahead and make those 'resolution' plans now! (4WD/AWD access only).
Log Gap Cabin was built with timbers that were hand-hewn in the 1800's. It's a truly special find, off the beaten path, and located just 15-20 minutes from Biltmore House, Asheville, Hendersonville, and access to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Due to the terrain of Flat Top Mountain (the Cabin's home) 4WD or AWD is required - so bring your 'sense of Adventure' and don't be deterred because Log Gap Cabin's tranquil location is well worth the trek!
Log Gap Cabin sits on 2 acres at the very end of a private, mountain gravel drive (with some areas of steeper grade). The Cabin's closest neighbor is Aerie (our other signature property), approximately 50 yards to the SSW. This amazing cabin features an upstairs bedroom loft with queen-size bed, plus a queen-size Futon in the Living Room. Relax in the comfort of premium quality cotton linens and wrap yourself in plush bathrobes which are provided for your convenience. The Living Room is comfy cozy with an awesome masonry stone fireplace and hardwood floors. The fireplace is available for use only between October and March, and firewood/fire making materials are not provided. The kitchen is nicely stocked with all of the modern conveniences – coffee maker, blender, toaster, microwave, stove/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, dishware, cookware, bake ware, and utensils. If you're unable to 'unplug', don't worry, there is Internet, plus 2 flat-screen TVs (smart TV upstairs). We hope, however, that you'll spend the majority of your stay enjoying nature's solitude and the quiet of the mountain. The property offers several options perfect for relaxation: the fire-pit outdoor seating area featuring a 2-person Amish swing and Adirondack chairs from which you can see Bearwallow Mountain in the Spring and Winter; the L-shaped, screened-in porch which features 18" wide-planed pine boards, a cafe-style table and chairs, and soothing, relaxing rocking chairs; or enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner on the open deck furnished with an outdoor table, four chairs, and umbrella. Best of all, enjoy dessert under the stars, soaking your cares away, in the 4-person hot tub situated on the main entry flagstone patio, bordered by solar powered evening accent lights.
Do beware of visitors, though - it's not uncommon to see some of our local deer and black bear families, wild turkeys, busy little chipmunks, chattering squirrels, and a variety of songbirds. You may also catch sight of a box turtle or some of our salamanders and 5-lined skinks. During the day, you'll hear the choruses of songbirds, and the occasional call of a red-tail hawk. At night, you may be fortunate enough to hear the nearby 'hoot' of owls, see a raccoon, opossum, or flying squirrels. And, if you're really lucky, you may even glimpse sight of a bobcat.
There are two grocery stores within 7 miles of the Cabin: Food Lion (5.0 miles, here in Fairview) and Ingles (7.2 miles, at the bottom of Minehole Gap, in the Reynolds District). There is a CVS store off of I-240 at River Ridge, and if you wish, you can travel west on I-40 to Highway 25 (Hendersonville Road), or south on the Blue Ridge Parkway, where you'll find Publix, a more 'modern' Ingles, Fresh Market, Starbucks, as well as a variety of local restaurants (Tupelo Honey, Farm Burger, Asheville Pizza and Brewery (take-out only), 12 Bones Smokehouse, Apollo Flame ... oh, and don't overlook The Local Joint, Whistle Hop, Smokey & the Pig BBQ, and Turgua Brewery right here in Fairview.).
A few cautionary notes: We are occasionally visited by coyotes, and the WNC mountains are home to a few species of venomous snakes (Copperheads and Rattlers) so if you happen upon one, be sure to steer clear, giving them a wide berth. And, while wondrous to see, our neighboring black bears can be dangerous if traveling through with cubs or caught unaware. Feel free to enjoy cool evenings out by the fire-pit (firewood and fire making materials are not provided). Do note, however, that during extremely dry conditions, use of the fire-pit may not be possible due to local Buncombe County 'burn bans' - we will do our best to notify you of these conditions, but please also check with Host to confirm that the fire-pit can be used during your stay. As outlined in the House Rules - no ashes from any of the fire apparatuses are to be dumped outside (fireplace, fire-pit, and grill) - The Host will dispose of any ashes after your departure.

Great place to stay that gives you the benefit of being in nature, but also close to all the highlights that the area has to offer (downtown Asheville, Biltmore, etc)!
Beautiful place with excellent hosts. Communication was great and they had everything in order and ready! Will definitely be staying again when we plan our next vacation.

About the host
Hosted by Kyle
Half of our family is mountain-bred, the other half 'water'-bred, thus we're a family with two loves: the beaches of Florida's Panhandle (Laguna Beach) and the Appalachian/Blue Ridge Mountains. After living in Florida for most of our lives, we decided to leave Tallahassee 24 years ago and relocate to the Asheville area (Fairview). We were seeking a less hectic lifestyle - a more rural setting in which to raise our son, who was then 10 years old. We found that place here in Fairview, on just under 6 acres on Flat Top Mountain.
We have truly 'lived' here - we work from home and our immediate neighbors are black bears, deer, turkeys, raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, bobcats, songbirds, butterflies, owls, hawks, box turtles, and the occasional coyote. We're lovers of nature who enjoy the undeniable sense of peace and tranquility that the mountain offers, it centers and grounds us. We're dedicated pet owners - we've had a horse, pet rats, both fresh and saltwater fish, amphibians, and numerous fur-babies. We currently have a Koi pond, an indoor 'pond' with our Floridian transplanted Yellow-eared Slider turtle and his fish buddy, a German Shepherd, and 2 B&W Tuxedo cats (litter-mate brothers). In 2012, our human family expanded when our son married after graduating from college, in 2017, it grew again, with the birth of our first grandchild, and yet again in 2025 when our twin grandchildren arrived!
Why they chose this property
Ours is a family business (residential construction and office administration/accounting) and we're excited to have branched out with the incorporation of 'rental' properties. To that end, when the Log Gap Cabin property became available for purchase, we were thrilled with the potential of purchasing the property, for many reasons: -We knew the original owner of the cabin well and observed it being built, -The cabin and its property abuts our own so we are intimately familiar with it, and -We believed it would be the perfect property for our first rental venture.
We look forward to the opportunity of sharing the Cabin and its surrounds with you. We hope that you'll enjoy the Cabin as much as we enjoy our neighboring home and, if you do, we'd love to have you return any time!
What makes this property unique
Log Gap Cabin is located at the end of a single-lane, privately maintained, gravel mountain road. It's a peaceful, tranquil, and natural setting, yet still affords the conveniences to which we're all now accustomed. There are a few options for hiking right here at the Cabin - a short hike up the right-of-way behind the cabin will lead to a beautiful, privately owned meadow (please leave do not linger and be sure to leave no trace if you choose to enjoy this hike); you can also hike Log Gap Road and/or neighboring Rocky Fork Road (which borders the bold Rocky Fork stream).
The Cabin is located near so many of the points of interest in Western North Carolina that you'll have difficulty in choosing what to do and where to go while you're visiting (all the more reason to come back again and again - a different adventure every time!). We feature some of those locations and activities in our 'Welcome' book, and a 'Google search' will provide numerous others for consideration.
Whether you're a new visitor to our area, a repeat visitor, or maybe just a local who's looking for that perfect place to 'stay-cation', Log Gap Cabin offers the best of both worlds! It's truly both a place to come to just relax and rejuvenate yourself -and- a great place to unwind after days spent exploring all that that Western North Carolina has to offer!
