Tiny Home in the Texas Hill Country - The Blue Casita on Caballo Creek
This tiny house and its twin (The Green Casita) offer luxurious Texas Hill Country accommodations that are easily accessible yet feel a world away from urban life. Reserve one Casita for your party of up to 5, or both if you need space for 10. Enjoy the Casitas’ private refuge on 55 acres surrounded by hill country views with the comforts of an upscale hotel. You may spot deer, turkey, rabbits, roadrunners and even fox from your deck.
Each Casita offers an open space with soaring ceilings that create an airiness not often found in a tiny house. The main floor features a queen bed and the loft (accessible by a ladder) offers both a full bed and a twin bed. The living room has a 60 inch Smart TV. The house provides wifi throughout. The kitchen features a dining table, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven, electric burner, and a retro style SMEG refrigerator. Dishes, pans and utensils are included. If you prefer cooking outside, take advantage of the full-size pellet grill on your covered deck. Because of the ladder to the open loft above, the Casitas are not recommended for walking children under 6.
If you do choose to venture out of your refuge, you will find yourself conveniently located near many activities and attractions. The Casitas at Caballo Creek are situated in the middle of wineries from Fredericksburg to Driftwood, offering the perfect home base for serious wine tasting. Similarly the area is home to many distilleries and breweries.
The area is well known for its abundance of parks and swimming holes including Pedernales Falls State Park (a 5 minute drive), Hamilton Pool, Riemers Ranch Park, Blanco State Park and more.
Each conveniently located only about 20 minutes away, the towns of Dripping Springs and Johnson City boast a variety of offerings. You will find restaurant options from casual Mexican food to fine dining. Shopping includes boutiques and antiques. Dripping Springs has been called “The Wedding Capital of Texas”, and the Casita is conveniently located near a host of wedding venues. Johnson City is home to the Science Mill for children, The Exotic Resort Zoo and of course, the Lyndon Johnson Boyhood Home. If you’ld like to explore even further, you’ll be only about 45 minutes from Fredericksburg and an hour from downtown Austin.

Everything is as pictured and more. Perfect place to stay and the host are amazing. The only thing to take not of is you are not doing much cooking here. There is a toaster oven and one plug in burner so you have what you need but only for simple meals. Not a problem just take note. There is also an amazing pavilion to hang out with tables, chairs a fireplace and kitchen. The property is so quite and you can see all the stars (special moment for us from the city). Everything is clean, the beds are comfortable. Stay here... for sure!
Great location, views and property.A lot of nice touches such as the outdoor grills and fireplace (all stocked). Very well maintained and one of the best VRBOs, we have rented. Would definitely stay again.
The blue casita was amazing. The little details left by the owner were much appreciated - the toiletries, the suggestions of what to do locally, everything was great!
We loved this location! The view is perfect and the outdoor fireplace is a great place to relax!
We loved the blue casita! The thoughtful touches added by the owners combined with the beautiful location were perfect. We will definitely visit again! Thanks so much!
I was looking for little peace and quiet for my birthday weekend. The Blue Casita hit the spot. It was very clean and comfortable. I truly enjoyed my stay!
My Mom and I had a wonderful stay in the blue casita. The view from the porch is beautiful. The casita was adorable, clean and very comfortable. The location is so convenient to hit the many wineries in the area along with super cute shopping in near by Blanco. We had a very relaxing and fun stay! Highly recommend it.
We were down in Johnson city to attend a funeral for a dear friend of mine of 30+ years and so it was a very tough weekend but i have to say that staying at the blue casita made the weekend enjoyable and definitely eased our burden. My wife and I will definitely be coming back as the location was beautiful and the cabin was awesome and perfect for us.
For Memorial Day weekend my daughter and I got away to Pedernales State Park. The cabin was perfect for our trip. It had everything we needed and we really appreciated the ice machine (saved me a trip back to town!)
What a great surprise, the location with a view was great! The addition of the shared pavilion was also a great surprise. Well put together and again the location is perfect. We needed a place to stay for a wedding but will definitely be back to stay and play, lots in the area to do and the perfect place to stay while there! Thanks for having us!
We absolutely loved our stay at Caballo Creek and will definitely book again! The house was clean and had everything we needed. And the hosts communication was excellent. No issues. Thank you so much! We look forward to our next visit!

So tasteful but simple. Loved the luxurious bathroom. Could have used a toaster or toaster oven.

Thanks for your review. I tried to design that bathroom to be what I look for when traveling so I am happy to hear that you like it. I appreciate your feedback on the toaster oven. I have been thinking about trying to find one that won't take up too much space in that compact kitchen. I plan to move that idea to the top of my "potential improvements" list! -- As of December 6, 2018, both the Blue Casita and its sister property, the Green Casita are equipped with toaster ovens. Thanks for the suggestion!
We have stayed at the large house in the past and now the blue casita. Love the easy of working with the owner and love the location. It has a great westerly view. They also have an uber driver contact to call if you need that! I only wish the casitas had a privacy door between the living area and the bedrooms. We enjoyed a fire at the pavilion. I would stay here again!
The blue Casita was a wonderful home base for our 4 days in the TX hill country. We selected this house for the solar eclipse and although it was cloudy, it was amazing to have a private and quiet place to view this magical event. In terms of the property, everything was lovely and so thoughtfully furnished. Terrific space for 2 adults and 2 teens. Cute coffee cups, perfect shower pressure, comfortable beds! We would recommend the blue Casita to anyone looking for a beautiful and quiet stay in the hill country.
My BFF and I stayed in the cute little Blue Casita. We had a wonderful time despite the overcast weather and a misty rain. The casita a was perfect location for shopping in nearby Dripping Springs and Johnson City. It was quiet and we enjoyed one evening making a fire and watching the sunset in the pavilion next door. The casita was clean, had all the amenities we needed and was the perfect size for the two of us. Thank you for sharing your blue casita with us!!
Love the property, peaceful and away from city and traffic. Lovely place to disconnect from a busy lifestyle. Padernales falls state park 5 miles away, close by grocery store, gas station. Free washer and dryer and lots of ice. Super clean and amazing home.

After a career in the software industry and raising 2 children, I left Austin to move full time to Caballo Creek Ranch, about a mile up the road from my new guest houses. In looking around for what to do next, I chose to combine my interests in travel, the Texas Hill Country, and home decor into a vacation rental business. I began in 2017 by redecorating an existing house with some of my favorite artwork and furniture from my previous home in Austin. I found myself taking great pleasure in seeing guests enjoy my property and decided to build the Green and Blue Casitas in 2018 as vacation rentals.
Why they chose this property
Having lived in Austin since 1978, I have long considered the Austin area to be home. In the 1990’s I was able to achieve my lifetime dream of owning horses and went looking for ranch property accessible to Austin. Now that I live here full time, I find this location perfect. It is just far enough from Austin to maintain its rural feel but close enough to take advantage of all Austin has to offer
What makes this property unique
This lodging is a reflection of my personal taste and more importantly, of all the conveniences I look for when traveling. I have tried to attend to the details that I look for in a hotel — counter and storage space in the bathrooms, a complete coffee offering, spa-quality bathroom amenities, clean and comfortable bedding and of course, wifi access. But what distinguishes the Casita from a hotel is that all this comfort is nestled in a secluded and rural setting. For me, it’s the best of both worlds.
