About this property
Charming bungalow with wraparound porch in Thunderbolt
This charming bungalow is a 100-year-old fishermans cottage conveniently located between the historic district and Tybee Island. Thunderbolt, GA is an independent hamlet in Savannah, known for its petite coastal homes, proximity to the intercoastal waterway (a short walk from the house), the fresh shrimp dock, and its easy peace and quiet.
THE SUGAR SHACK
This partially renovated 1100-square foot home offers 2 bedrooms and 1 bath and is the ideal home away from home. It boasts a wrap-around porch with a porch swing and additional seating, white picket fence, woodsy lot, giant 250-year-old live oak tree, and whitewashed shiplap interior - it's the simple South personified. Indeed, it served as a principal location for the movie The Gift (2000) with Cate Blanchett.
It is equipped with keyless locks to keep things simple, screen doors on both entrances so you can catch a cool breeze, as well as high-speed internet, a 32" Smart TV, and lots of books and magazines for you to get cozy with. Parking is ample - enough for around 4 cars, should you have visitors.
We love this home, and trust that you will too!
KITCHEN & DINING
The kitchen has what it takes to keep you comfortable during a longer stay. If you like to cook, we have got you covered with real dishes, pots and pans, silverware, knives, cutting boards, basic spices and even a couple of cookbooks. It has most of the gadgets you might need, including a microwave, tea kettle, coffee maker (and french press!), icemaker and dishwasher.
The washer and dryer are also tucked away in the kitchen. We will provide starter supplies of coffee and paper towels.
The adjacent dining room has a 4-person table that has played host to many a good evening. It is perfect for dinner, drinks, or that 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle you were thinking of bringing.
BEDROOM & BATH
This home includes two bedrooms, each with a queen bed that is well-appointed and comfortable for two. The living room sofa converts into a bed (with its own linens), offering an additional sleeping area.
The full bath was remodeled last year and is AMAZING - light, bright, big and airy. You'll find it stocked with complimentary starter toiletries, fluffy towels, and a starter supply of toilet paper.
OUTDOOR AREAS
If you have had your fill of the porch, check out the backyard - it is shaded by that 250-year-old oak we mentioned, which is the centerpiece of our official National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. Some of our favorite natural wonders are the resident barred owls, Johnny and June, who make their appearance (and some owlets) every spring that stay til the fall! There is a beautiful marble firepit out back that was handmade by dear friends, and there is a firewood pile that you are welcome to use (remember to be careful of spiders when getting some wood, and please do not leave any backyard fire unattended.)
THE LOCATION
Nestled in an ideal location, this property is a short 15-minute drive from Savannah’s historic district where you can tour historic downtown, world-class art museums, and dine at a variety of top-rated restaurants.
Drive 15-minutes in the opposite direction and you can enjoy a day at the beach on Tybee Island.

I really great place that was centrally located to everything. Quiet and charming neighborhood. Plenty of secure parking next to the house.Easy walk to 3 great restaurants. We had a great time and communication with the host was superb. We will be back on our next visit to Savannah!!
House was very clean. Location was good for all the things we wanted to do. Beds were comfortable. Only complaint is that our stay was not nearly long enough. Hope to book this cute little location again soon.
Very cute place but not furnished for comfort. Not designed to hang out in the house; extremely uncomfortable couch and not enough seating for 4 adults in the living room. Front porch is very nice.
We found the home met all our needs well. We appreciated being able to stay in an historic home. The home was very clean and had the necessary supplies to make our stay comfortable. We would like to recommend Eric’s Davis Low Country seafood restaurant, which is literally a 4 minute walk from the house.
Our stay was simply lovely. The house is in a nice, quiet neighborhood surrounded by beautiful trees and Spanish moss. It’s really close to the must-see Bonaventure cemetery, and a short drive to Wormsloe, Tybee Island, and the historic downtown area. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Savannah!
Very nice place to stay. Felt very homey, loved having our coffee out on the porch. Convenient location for our trip.

We stayed for a wedding, and location was great downtown and to Tybee Island! I had to reach out for check in instructions a few hours before we arrived, and was sent right after. Recommendation to add to the amenities an iron/ironing board, as well as a long mirror.

There actually is an iron in the bathroom vanity cabinet, with a tabletop ironing mat, so one can iron on the dining table. Very sorry you didn’t find them! I’m surprised to know the full-length mirror (usually housed in bedroom closet) is missing - thanks for letting me know!
The property was just as described. We were in town for an event with our son whose team was staying up the road at another house. It worked perfectly that we had the kitchen so we could help with cooking sides for a group meal at the team house and because it was rainy all weekend we were able to dry our wet things in the dryer. Can't get that at a hotel! Additionally, it was just a cozy place to kick back and relax and get that R&R during the down time. Hope to come back again next year. Maybe the weather will allow for us to kick back on the porch.
This was a great little house. The inside was great and the landscaping was amazing. The first night the AC went out and the host was very easy to communicate with and she had the issue resolved by the next day. We would definitely stay here again.
A nice cozy old home with current amenities. Beautiful wrap around porch. Comfortable beds and upgraded bathroom. A nice home away from home. Would rent again!
Great location - outside of the city but a quick drive in. Quiet and comfortable environment. The house was stocked well and the host was great. Would definitely stay again!
We had a wonderful time during our stay. The host was very responsive and the property was clean, inviting, and it's super short drive to both Savannah and Tybee Island.
Great little place in a great location. Easy to get to the ocean and downtown Savannah. Neighborhood was upcoming and nice to stay in with good restaurants like Ericka Davis Low Country.
Beautiful huge Live Oak makes it that muck more!
