About this property

Spectacular Views! Comfortable, Spacious, Family Friendly Home-3 bedroom, 3 bath

This Alpine retreat is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. It offers sweeping, in-your-face views of the Cimarrons to the east and 13-14,000 peaks of the San Juan range to the south.

The home is perfect for families, couples, or groups of friends. It includes 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a great room, a game room, and a dining room spread over two stories. Upstairs offers expansive views and includes a master bedroom, kitchen, and great room. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook your favorite meals, including pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and appliances. It is well-provisioned with non-perishables, including quality spices/seasonings, cooking oil, sugar, and flour. The large deck offers stunning views of the mountains and is perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee, afternoon barbeque, or a glass of wine at sunset.

Downstairs includes 2 bedrooms, a well-stocked game room, and a full bath. A washer and dryer are in a separate laundry room. All bedrooms are equipped with humidifiers to help ensure your comfort in the dry mountain air.

The home is in a quiet neighborhood, just minutes from hiking and off-road trails. While secluded, it is readily accessible to the valley below. Downtown Ridgway has restaurants, shops, and groceries and is about 8 miles (20 minutes) on a well-maintained dirt and gravel road. Charming Ouray is a 30-minute drive through the spectacular Uncompahgre River valley.

You will feel like you are on top of the world. If you are lucky, you’ll see an afternoon shower, followed by clouds in the valley below and a double rainbow! At 8,900 feet elevation, the home offers breathtaking alpine beauty, ample groves of Aspens, and abundant wildlife. You will likely see plenty of deer, including those visiting in the front yard. You may also see bobcats, bald eagles, coyotes, elk, or even glimpse a black bear. In the quiet of the mountains, you may connect with the gentle sounds of nature and, on a clear night, see the night sky in all its wonder.

The house is heated by an electric-powered hydronic radiant heating system, which is both efficient and environmentally friendly. The electricity for the heating system is generated by solar panels on the roof, so you can feel good knowing that you're helping to reduce your carbon footprint on your vacation. The house is super well insulated and was constructed using green building practices, such as using recycled materials and energy-efficient appliances.

This is a unique and magical place! Guaranteed, you will not want to leave it! If you're looking for a relaxing vacation in a modern, spacious home offering incredible views of the San Juan mountains, this is the perfect place for you!

I grew up in the Catskill Mountains. During college, I heeded the call to "go west" with a friend. Through a serendipitous set of events, we found ourselves camping on the hillside above Ouray on a beautiful, crystal-clear summer night, with a zillion stars in the sky, next to an abandoned mine and rushing stream. The next day we drove the Million Dollar Highway to Silverton. I was forever captivated by the beauty and peace of this area and have been drawn to it ever since!

After working in Boston, then in Denver/Boulder, I moved to California in the early 1980’s and have lived in Southern California ever since. I work as a business/technology consultant and managed a small portfolio of properties. I love to travel and enjoy all things outdoors including hiking, mountain climbing, skiing, biking, and river rafting. Elk Meadows offers all these activities and much more.

Elk Meadows Hacienda was offered as a VRBO from 2016 to 2017 and was universally loved by the many guests that visited. The house offers a perfect base-camp for tons of outdoor activities, as well as a comfortable, cozy place to simply hang out, relax, enjoy the stunning views and ever-present wildlife. I hope you too will find enjoyment in this spectacular corner of the Rocky Mountains!

Why they chose this property

I learned to appreciate the outdoors and nature growing up in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. I want my daughter, who is growing up in LA, to have a taste of the treasures of nature, to experience the truth so eloquently expressed by John Muir: “The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.”
When I saw this property, it's amazing setting, and abundance of deer and other wildlife, it profoundly resonated with me and I want to share it with others.

What makes this property unique

The house was built following passive solar principles. It is extremely well-insulated and very energy efficient.

When was the last time felt you could drink water out of a tap? Elk Meadows Estates HOA provides fresh Rocky Mountain spring water drawn from the Beaver Creek drainage. It tastes great, relies on a solar-powered pump, and you may drink it unfiltered out of the tap!

This is a very comfortable home that is built around amazing views of Mount Sneffels and the San Juan range to the South. Whether you are sitting in the living room gazing out of the cathedral windows or sitting on the deck, the mountain views and nature dominate your experience. As you gaze at the ever-present deer that graze around Elk Meadows and the yards of this house, you will feel far away from urban life and very close to nature.
