We were looking for a secluded getaway for the first few nights of our Maine vacation. This property worked out well to get us out of the city but offer plenty of outdoor exploring.to do on the island. Check-in was super easy, as long as you screenshot the directions to get in as they state in the listing. The cell reception around the property was not great, but the WiFi at the property worked well. The view from the sliding glass doors and the deck is pretty.
Any review of the Goldsmith apartment has to begin with the great location and fabulous water view. Convenient to everything on (admittedly tiny) Bailey Island. The apartment is spacious and laid out well. The bed was a futon mattress on a wooden frame that acted like a platform bed. We found it to be comfortable enough. The kitchen and bathroom were serviceable. It seemed odd that they do not supply soap, shampoo, and conditioner that we have come to expect at most places. The house was closed up and very hot when we arrived. There is no air conditioning but it was not too hot outside and things cooled off quickly when we opened windows. Overall the furnishings were approaching the wrong side of rustic and were very tired. There was a for sale sign on the property and perhaps that explains why the owners are not investing much into the place. This is an efficiency apartment above a garage, and perhaps less important than the connected cottage which appeared to be very nice in the real estate pictures. Of course it might have been staged for the pictures; who knows. Overall it met our needs and was not terribly expensive. We started our search late, and were happy to find it. We are encouraged to increase our budget and start our search earlier next time.
I would stay there again. The view is spectacular.
Very quiet at night till the lobster boats arrive at 6am, but that’s white noise.
Bed is firm but comfortable.
Noisy construction nearby right now.
Balcony fence is a bit wobbly.
Recycling should be available, but it’s not.
We had an amazing time staying at the property and on Bailey Island as a whole. The place was nice and clean, open spacious, nice kitchen and bathroom with toiletries. The standing shower was a bit tight and there is no air-conditioning on sight.
The place did provide a nice fan that helped a lot with being able to sleep comfortably and the host was very responsive to our text messages.
Looking at the ocean from the desk was mesmerizing

No internet for the first 24 hours. It took many text messages and advanced diagnostics to get it running on day two. Very disappointed.
Property condition is very worn out and in need of updates.
The price to value relationships are not even closely aligned. We’ll never go back.
It has good amenities, dishwasher was nice to have to put the dishes away from sitting around.
Nice view. I avoided late afternoon there because the west sun comes in. There was a fan and evenings cool for comfortablility during evening.. The bed is uncomfortable so I put a comforter under the sheet to soften. It is a futon bed.
I would suggest investing in a queen size bed for 2 or a double for a one person stay.
We had a lovely stay here. Everything was very comfortable (except the bed was a bit stiff). Loved having the sliding door to the deck; it was excellent to have coffee out there overlooking the ocean and to fall asleep with breeze coming in. Owners were responsive via text when we had questions. We had a great time here.
Nice, very clean cozy studio apartment above a garage overlooking the water. A bit hard to find the first time. Everything provided except there was no bath soap, or extra pillow cases for extra pillows. Communication with management very easy. Information booklet provided in the apartment was also helpful.

Great location
Aside from the hiccup between vrbo and property manager, this was an awesome location and very pleasant stay!
One of the most uncomfortable beds I've slept in over the past few years. Stuff, and the sheets were cardboard-like. Very cheap. Nice views off the deck though. Fake eyelashes found on the floor from previous stays. but overall a nice quaint place, pictures accurately reflected what it looked like in person, but did I mention the uncomfortable bed?

Hi Chris - I'm sorry to hear that you found the bed to be uncomfortable. It is a futon mattress as described in the listing. We will definitely assess this as it is fairly new and haven't had any other negative feedback.
What a lovely place to spend a quiet weekend away! Such a beautiful and peaceful location with perfect views. Close to great restaurants. Clean and tidy. Great stay!

Location was excellent and apartment was clean. Bed comfortable for futon type. But apartment needed some attention. Slightly damaged rug and chair. Rheostat on light not working. Dated and a bit shabby, but cleanliness and location make up for a great deal!
