My 21-year-old daughter and I recently spent a magical week in Barbados, staying at Little Reef for the second straight year. This charming beachfront apartment is situated in the welcoming neighbourhood of Fitts Village on the west coast (also called the Gold or Platinum Coast). This region is essentially a one-stop shop for just about everything you’ll need or want during your stay. There are numerous restaurants (including our favourite, La Cabane), a grocery store (Jordan’s), and a fish market. If you enjoy fish grilled on the BBQ, you’ll be in for a treat. Take a 15-minute walk to Payne’s Bay and pick up some fish fresh off the fishing boats. During this most recent stay, we grilled freshly caught tuna, marlin, mahi-mahi, kingfish, and flying fish on the patio overlooking the ocean. The apartment is stocked with everything you’ll need to prepare your feast! But the real highlight of this property is its proximity to the sandy beach, swimming, and the most amazing snorkeling, a mere 30 feet (or less) from shore. Here, you’ll see an amazing assortment of fish, including schools of tangs in the hundreds. During this stay, I even swam with and video recorded a sea turtle – a truly memorable moment. The property manager, Michael, is always available, and the caretaker, Grantley, conveniently lives next door. You’ll be in good hands! I give Little Reef my highest recommendation (6 stars) – it will always be our home away from home when visiting Barbados.
